Ooh by no means am I encouraging you go there without knowing Spanish (if you have time and want to stay longer try to learn it) it will help you dramatically and you will more fun. But I want to get rid of this persona that you have to know Spanish in order to go to Colombia, I almost cancelled my trip last minute reading this forum and people telling me if you do not know Spanish do not go. At the end of the day one language everyone speaks is money, if you got them pesos you can make moves. Also next time I go to Colombia I will definitely learn some Spanish beforehand, imagine how much fun I can have speaking crack at these chicas.

So I read up on the Sofi page. The free ATM's have to be in the Allpoint network and when I searched Medellin, Antioquia, Colombia, on the Sofi Website, I came up with zero results, zero ATMs.

Also, their other "benefits" are mostly (I didn't read in detail because they lost me at zero ATM's) linked to the user having direct deposit of paychecks. That cuts me out also, I haven't had a W-2 in years.

So, anywho, I would prefer to be wrong in this instance so you get what you signed up for, but I will be sticking with Chuck (Schwab) for now. If I am wrong, the edumucate me so other Users here can glean the benefit.

I've used Sofi in Bali, Indonesia and Mexico and they did not charge any fees. I do not have direct deposit either as it's not my primary checking account.

You get the best deal with Ally Bank when using Colpatria / Scotia ATM withdrawals.

But once you are using a card that does not charge any fees for foreign ATM transactions (that fee would come from the financial institution that issued your debit card in the USA), and has unlimited reimbursement for ATM fees levied by the foreign bank (that fee would come from the bank that owns the ATM you are using in Colombia) then the only possible difference between cards would be the actual exchange rate. But if both cards are a Visa debit card, then the exchange rate is set by Visa and would be the same. And Visa traditionally gives good exchange rates. The card I just described is the Visa debit card from Chucky Schwab. Maybe Ally matches that or if it is somehow better please let us know how.

Also, typically the exchange rate set by Visa is better than what you would get from a cash transfer service like Western Union. I just checked before posting this and the Visa exchange rate was 3590 pesos per dollar, while Western Fuck Union (WU) was 3282 pesos per dollar, a difference of 308 pesos per dollar, let's just say 300 for round numbers. Assume for the moment your budget for living in Medellin is 1600 dollars per month, a number I grabbed out of thin air, you could be lower depending where you stay but since we are here to fuck as many chicas as possible, you could easily spend more. Let's say you go to the ATM once per week because you don't want to risk carrying more money than that at one time.

So for four withdrawals a month of 400 dollars each for a total of 1600 dollars with a no fee Visa debit card would net you 5. 744.000 pesos (Colombians use periods instead of commas, and this Web site's stupid auto editor fucks it up). Western Union would give you 5.251.200 pesos for the same 1600 dollars. WU also charges a transaction fees which would further lower the amount to around 5. 192.729. The difference per month between the no fee Visa card and WU is you would receive 551.272 more pesos per month with the card or 6. 615.264 more per year.

For long term visitors, by timing your withdrawals when the exchange rates are most favorable you can count on an additional 5% without waiting too long between withdrawals which puts us almost at 7 million pesos advantage for the year.

Assumptions were made, exchange rates do fluctuate, but the spread is always there. Bottom line, the longer you stay, the more potential for savings, and in my example that came to almost $2000 per year, or easily over half a million pesos per month. Also, if you budget is higher say double, then you would save double the amount listed. That's a lot of extra fucking, jajajaja.

What's the latest buzz on SA (Seeking arrangement). I'm not new to it just haven't used in a while, pre pandemic. Heading to MDE next week and wonder if it's still worth it (now $100/ mo). Only going to be there for 10 days maybe a little longer. I found before those SA chicas are non-pros or semi-pros mainly college chicks that I don't see on FB or Lleras / Gusto. Most are pretty chill and classier IMO, and been lucky with them in the past.

Just wondering if any recent good experiences w all the recent changes this past year. Price increased / Decreased? Refused to leave or in a hurry to head out? I wonder if EAFIT has online lessons?

I thought EAFIT were easily the best of a bad bunch of schools in MDE. I quite enjoyed their course. But I found one-on-one private lessons much better. I used a chica that used to charge 25 000 per hour. I see now she is more than dbl so other people must be appreciating her service too. .

As for learning as you age. I agree that it gets harder. At least from my own experience that I am sure applies to many people. The main issue I have is to actually pick out the words that people say. I can read and write excellently, but to hear first time what people say is very difficult. This is bcos my hearing is not as good as it was. I find it very difficult to distinguish small changes in frequency / pitch, which is essential when trying to decypher words in an alien tongue. One on one, I am not too bad. And masks are a nightmare too. Not being able to see mouth / lip shapes makes it very difficult and often people simply sound like they are mumbling.

I appreciate the encouragement. Hopefully we can meet up again, as once I get this property I'll be spending as much time as possible in Medellin without becoming a tax resident.

My research tells me the cut-off for when you have to file in Colombia is six months, cumulative. No leeway on the time, once you go over 183 days, you have to file. Anyone else who actually has lived it in Colombia, feel free to chime in.

Will likely be staying at the Medellin Marriott because I have Titanium status. Prior posts are all over the place on whether it's guest friendly or if they require an additional payment. Any recent intel?

Yes just book double occupancy and you will be fine. You will have to register your guest and you might be limited to just one registered guest per stay.

Maybe try booking triple occupancy if the price is the same so you at least can argue that route for a second guest. Don't be afraid to call and ask.

I like staying at the Four Points bc it is only $45/ night and they always upgrade me to an exec suite for Plat status.
