Made it to Envigado last night after driving from Bogota. It's a scenic and somewhat challenging drive.
Other than heading out to get money and breakfast this morning, and to visit a friend and have lunch this afternoon, I haven't accomplished much yet. Probably heading back out in a little while.
I discovered something with the ATMs this morning. Last time I used a Davivienda ATM it limited me to 400 k on my credit union card, while my bank card was limited to 2 million. However, today both allowed up to 2 million per withdrawal. That was at the Davivienda ATM at Santa Fe mall.
I'm enjoying driving, rather than using taxis. Traffic sucks and the motos are crazy, but it's not that difficult. However, you do have to be assertive and drive with a bit of bravado.
The apartment is great and awful. It's great because it's huge, quiet, has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths plus a 2 person jacuzzi with shower right off the balcony. No security, but I'm not worried about that. It's awful because it's on the fifth floor, with the jacuzzi and 2 bedrooms on the sixth floor, with no elevator. Fortunately, you can buzz open the front door from the apartment. It's located at the south end of Envigado and includes a parking spot in the garage.

I've been driving around Medellin today and it's really not much different than driving in any city during rush hour. You do need to pay extra attention to the motos. Parking can also be a pain. As long as you pay attention to what you're doing, you should be good.
However, if driving stressed you out, probably better to stick with taxis.
Another option you might consider is renting a scooter or motorcycle. Medellin Sports Rentals (formerly Medellin Scooter Rentals) can help you out. Nice people.

Even though you could potentially live the rest of your life with HIV, it's not something to take lightly. Definitely not something I want to catch. I use Truvada.

Posts: 18Is it safe to drive?
Will touch down in Medellin next week and have been debating taking taxis or renting a car. I'm staying at Haven and just found out that they do not have parking but there is public parking a block away. I plan on doing excursions and actually exploring the area vs just mongering so I figured it might be more cost effective for me to drive. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
