Sperto, are you being biased because Vagabundo incessantly campaigns for a mongering style more in match with your own? I find Vagabundo's posts entertaining and great accounts of life on the ground. That doesn't mean I recommend to my newbie friends on a Rio vacation these itineraries. Many who visit Rio multiple times find Vila Mimosa and prives. We have to move on here and I wish the moderator would end this campaigning and criticism on all sides. You and Vagabundo know these same stupid arguments on the internet are older than ISG itself. Vagabundo didn't discover Vila Mimosa. (Vasco the Gama did.) Most of us know Barra is very nice. When I choose to, I know how to use public transportation.

The SP thread has guys that occasionally campaign for clinicas over high-end boates. Thankfully, it hasn't gotten to the constant drum beating on this thread. To anyone following this thread, Vagabundo has gone from being prolific to opinionated to now domineering. Posting under another handle to challenge a member is really bad form.

There was a viral sketch on SNL about "Man Park" and an article in the economist.com that describes Male Loneliness in America. It relates to a well known phenomenon, call it Brazil Withdrawal Syndrome. A ISGer comes to Brazil for 3 weeks, announces his pronouns as something like Sir, but the girls he pulls are only from termas, and those are unremarkable. Then he comes to Rio, and is in the absolute opposite of Puritan Pussy Prison in America, where the female faculty at an academic work environment body shame men in acts of some kind of redress. For 3 weeks he gets sex on command. Then he goes back to America, and he has one place he can recall that feeling of superiority that he felt in Rio -- namely the sex tourist message board, where the majority of participants are, like him, not even in Rio. It becomes a kind of online therapy group, like the group therapy for emasculated men in fight club because they are not really using their sex organs to fuck Brazilian women today or this week, or even 3 weeks ago. The obvious answer for this is that like Hemingway going to Cuba after being put in a minor Pussy Prison by his Catholic wife in Key West is that the ISGer should pull a Bubba Boy and figure out how to live in Rio for 7 to 10 years...

As to Barra it's been popularized by Vagabundo, who actually lives in Rio. New tourists shouldn't stay in Barra, IMHO, and that's what the consensus here is. But for those who stay in Rio long-term, it actually makes sense (cheaper and safer). After you've seen most things Rio has to offer, why not stay in Barra, really?

I chuckled reading your Vasca shirt musings. I feel the same way about trying to blend in with the locals. Never going to work, IMHO.

How many times have you or any guy who parachutes in for 3 weeks gone Christmas shopping in madureira, and then celebrated Christmas with the whole family, including like 6 brothers out on the far reaches of zona oest? 2. I don't have any problem with you, as you actually have been in Rio multiple times, and add valuable data, like how you got BBFS (by showing your tests).

A perfect example would be the bubbaboy guide. It is old and now should be taken as an entertaining intro to rio but that is all. So much has changed since his time that it isn't really relevant to today.

Personally, I have been visiting and mongering in Brazil since 2001 and so much has changed. I didn't even visit Rio till 2012 since I was told not to visit by my agents in the south. Only in the past few years has mongering really changed for me with the proliferation of escort sites, cheap and safe rides to get to places around rio and SP and Google translate.
