Thanks for all the replies and stories fellas. I feel like I started a whole new discussion after my reply on 12-15-21. LOL I was kinda lost on Sousa but I feel like the replies give me a clear picture on what Sosua is all about. Sosua is a small beach town among tiny farming villages on the north coast.

Does anyone have recent experience using a VPN to connect to the US and get access to their Netflix, Amazon, Xfinity online programming. I'm eager to watch some Premier League soccer via Xfinity and I'm sure my IP address from here will not cut it. I tried some VPNs from Asia before and Amazon and Netflix sniffed them out.

I was in Sosua for three months and used NordVPN with my Google Chromecast with Google TV to VPN back into Denver CO. So I could watch local channels and Netflix. The VPN service worked very well with Delancer (common in condos) but would buffer sometimes when using a common shared hotel network. I use NordVPN all the time in the US so have not tried others. Sometimes you need to switch to different VPN servers when YouTube TV or Amazon detect you are using a VPN. NordVPN has many servers to choose from so finding one to work was not difficult.

I might also comment that some financial services (banks, brokers, ect) do not work from the DR and you can use a VPN to get a US IP address to get them to work.

NordVPN cost money and works best for me. There are also free services that could also work but I have not tried them. I have heard that ExpressVPN is also good from the DR for what you want to do.

Negotiation is part of the game. No girl in the DR is giving you her bottom line price out of the box. If you go to Sosua you will be saying no all night. Us Americans quote a price to the girl and work a satisfactoy deal. It is not complicated just smart. Not getting a price up front can lead to some serious problems. Because developing countries run on negotiation and not fixed prices. I would say that generally it is Americans that are asking the price and paying what they are told, instead of negotiating because that is what they are used to at home. The people that tend to negotiate are the ones that have been somewhere 1 million times and know that is how things work.

I remember being in Ghana and 2 American guys walked into a place that they sell handmade drums from tree trunks. They asked the price and were told $100. They did not negotiate. They said okay and walked out with 1 drum each. I paid $18 for my drum because I know how things work. The guy did not expect them to accept the $100 price. He thought they would haggle and meet somewhere in the middle.

Even in the States though there are certain times to negotiate. My motorcycle was listed for $2700 and I asked the guy if he would take $2000 and he said yes. My nephew's motorcycle was listed for $3800 and I told him to ask the guy if he would take $3000 and he said yes.

Hell, I was buying a house in my neighborhood that they wanted like $80,000 for. I looked up the house and saw it had been foreclosed on by the bank for $28,000. I offered the bank $29,000 and they said yes. Why pay more simply because that is the first price you see or are told when you don't have to?

Oh my Buddha? I have been living in Pattaya for 14 years and have never understood why guys on this board pay so much money there. I have always said chicks will take as little as $30 for all night when mfs were busy paying $100.
