It is kind of hard to explain if you haven't been to a Bangkok high end Gentlemans club, it is even harder to explain if you are a westerner, which I am. I am the first to admit that I do not pick up on the intracies of these clubs which are very much aimed at the Asian market, local Thais and Asian expats / tourists. The women are there to entertain you, you cannot officially bar fine them or have sex with them on the premises. You bill is for entrance, drinks and TIME the women sit with you. No sex.

There are 3 tiers of spenders at these places and you do get treated accordingly. Every gets treated well, it is just that the more you spend the better you will get treated.

Group 1:

You pay some kind of entrance fee. Starts at 1000, they do have packages for groups which includes drinks. You then pay for more drinks. Can be beer or more commonly bottles of spirits. And you pay for the company of women to enterntain you - 2000 for first hour, then 1000 for each additional hour + tip. You can of course just pay for lady drinks, but the girls will drink at a number of different tables which may be away from your group. I guess if you went in a group and got an entrance package, then shared a few women amongst the party. You could probably get away with a bill of 5,000 each. However you would be in the lowest spending group and the girls do know this, so only the newer girls or less popular girls are going to give you much attention. The very popular girls will not come to a table like this. It is a status thing.

Group 2:

The most common group is 2 to 5 business type guys, they grab a girl each, have bottles on the table and tip the ladies. The bill for this would start at 10,000 each, could go to 15,000 or 20,000 easily. The girls will be easily hand over their "line", as pretty much every Thai girl will. However trying to get them to come over for sex would see a strike rate of perhaps 1 out of 3 and then it would not be cheap. Think 5,000 to 10,000 for an hour or two.

Group 3:

Then there is the High Rollers group. These guys are high net worth individuals, both Thai and Foreign. They are literally surrounded by the most popular girls in the club and seem to compete to see who can spend the most money. Their bill is going to be 200 k and up. I once saw a guy tip a girl 100 lady drinks and he did it 3 times. You will see all sorts of crazy shit.

The Delta wave, which closed all entertainment venues at the start of 2021 was attributed to have started in these high end clubs. A government department of high end ministers was thought to have been infected with covid from these clubs at the time. It was the source of a number of memes and jokes from the public. Of course all ministers denied being at the clubs. Even a photo of one of the highest ministers with a nipple in his mouth at the club did not seem to be enough for him to admit being there. Deny, deny, deny seems to be the policy in this regards. But this is the type of clientele at these places. High end government officials, business owners and I am sure a number of people of ill repute.

As a disclaimer, I have been to these clubs maybe 5 times over the last 8 years. They have been more or less closed since the pandemic started. They are very much an Asian experience, you do see some farangs there but they are definitely in the minority. Most of the girls speak thai only, some obviously speak a little English, but certainly not all. As very much a white western dude, I always feel like I am a bit of an outsider at these clubs and do not pick up the intracies and what is a social club. Adding to this you are spending a ton of money without any result at the end of the night. I might go to these places once a year as a bit of a diversion, to see something new.

I realise that the gogo bars of Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza are operating very differently at the moment but my question is, are they still worth visiting? If there is a plentiful supply of pretty girls I can forgive the lack of dancing and semi-nudity!

It's seven years since I visited Thailand last (I made the rookie mistake of getting in to a relationship) and previously I always enjoyed visiting the likes of Nataree, Annies and Mango in Bangkok. Is there any positive news on the massage parlour front or are they all still closed?

In a word, "Yes", the Soi Cowboy and Nana bar areas are still worth visiting. As of this writing. As of just last night. However, the quality and number of girls can vary wildly from night to night, hour to hour. The same as the with the bars and girls on Soi 7, Soi 8, Soi 11 and just about everywhere else in the lower Sukhumvit area. Not sure about the Patpong area since it has been a few weeks since I cruised through there.

I am not really a massage shop guy, but I do see many Happy Ending style massage shops with girls and sometimes ladyboys waiting outside open all over the area.

BTW, on that topic, a Brief Trip Report: On a whim and having a spare afternoon, I stopped by the legendary Tulip in Thong Lo a few days ago. There were maybe 8-10 girls in the line up. I took one that smiled at me and was at least slim and well proportioned.

It was an ok 1 hour experience in a basic, dreary room. Wound up getting an acceptable BBBJ+CIM that I feel I over paid for at 1,900 baht for that hour. No big deal. I understand this is the high water mark standard shop for supposedly PSE sessions in Bangkok. Been hearing and reading that for years, I mean. This was my second time there in 9 years. I can only report that in my experience it was a PSE only if the porn you're used to watching has girls presenting, discussing, debating, requiring and insisting that her partner wear a condom for FS or no sex. It might be another 9 years before I bother to return for a third such PSE.

I think you are right, I believe all the big Gentlmans clubs have all been closed since the big Delta surge which was allegedly started in the G Clubs around ThongLo namely the Krystal Club and Emerald Club.

For anybody that complains about the prices in Nana etc. These clubs are on another level. Prices so high will make your nose bleed!

Question for oldtimers from a BKK first timer. How quiet is Bangkok during and after Songkran? I will be arriving at that time this year (booked uncancelable tickets without realizing). Obviously in a non-Covid year would we expect things to be back up to speed by Saturday or Monday, or is it a whole week or more written off? I'm thinking in terms of both P4P, freebies if I can get them and other tourist stuff in to do in Bangkok as well as whether legit restaurants and bars shut down. They say Songkran celebrations are worth seeing too, but perhaps not for a whole week if everything else is closed.

I doubt there will be any typical Songkran celebrations this year in terms of concert or festival gatherings and, thank god, water gun fights on the street. They were banned over the past couple of years due to Covid. Things are a little more open and relaxed now, but I don't think it will be all masks off and drench everyone in sight with ice water time in just 2 months from now.

Songkran isn't an event or time when restaurants, shops, bars and so on close. Everything should be open as usual. However, most bargirls these days being free to come and go without concern about salary issues. It is hard to say how many might see that week as a good time to return to their province to hang out with family and childhood friends. Unless they get word that Bangkok will see a notable influx of tourists and customers like you, that is.

Quality advice, I've had these online bait and switch all over, especially places like Budapest, Kiev and Bangkok, but that is part of the fun of this game.

For every 10 online random I tried in Hungary only 2 were even close to the profile. Had better luck in the pubs overall. Bangkok is a bit of fun though.

The fiwfans reviews I've tried out (following supposedly top ranked players) have been more bait and switch then random picks.

I'm going with instinct, tineye and a modicum of saying WTF from now on.

Honestly, it should not come as a surprise. A decade ago we were discussing how photoshopped escorts were on the websites or how when you would show up at an oily the girls on the cards were so heavily retouched that they no longer resembled the lady in the flesh.

It's always been this way. Now with the online world opening up and the ability to post reviews, it also should not be a surprise to see fake reviews to boost the girls or the shop.

Some hotels in the west do it on their Tripadvisor page so why wouldn't these shops do it?

This is the very reason we have forums like this one, to share genuine photos, reviews, opinions on places and girls.

My preference when I go to a place is to see the girls in a lineup, in the flesh, that way not only do you see the girls in the flesh but also their mood of the day. If the girl looks at her feet and avoids eye contact, you know she's not going to give you what you're after.

I was in Thailand last November (Phuket (2 places), Koh Samui, Chiang Rai (2 places) and, if anything, they became even less strict on "joiners". The only thing that got religiously checked was the girl's vaccine status. Most hotels are desperate for guests, so if you book a room for two, they don't object. Booking a room for two isn't more expensive than a room for one, unless you take the breakfast option.

My own brief experience with 2-3 of them was chatting on Line with who I realized was never the actual girl whose profile included that Line info, of course, but instead some clerk, pimp or manager who offered nothing of value to me in terms of deciding to book an appointment with the girl or not.

And, frankly, if the assessment of the Thai "sexpert" in the linked post is correct, I would be wasting my time, travel and let's say 1,500 baht at a minimum if among the deadly sins deserving blackballing, getting banned for life or, worse, getting plagued by bait and switch scams going forward are so much as trying for BBFS or submitting a negative review on a girl even if no way she delivered a claimed service such as a genuine BBBJ+CIM or in fact if she herself was actually a disappointing bait and switch lady who showed up in the room after you'd paid in full upfront.
