You can buy a cheap kettle at Big see Supercenter, BTS to Chit Lom and head to Ratchadamri Rd. Around 300 Baht, throw it away when you leave.

Annies was my all time favourite place in Bangkok, I visited it for probably 20 years, alas it was closed permanently. Apparently busted from illegally putting a well into the water table to decrease its water bill. Every second massage place does this so who knows what the real reason was. They own Chrome bar on Soi 7/1 and moved all the girls there when it shut but it has never been the same since.

This diary continues on from the Pattaya pages, where I spent a very enjoyable week.

I checked out of my hotel LK Metropole at 9 pm and intended to take a bus to Bangkok but changed my mind last minute and took a taxi. It cost 1500 baht to take me in to the city centre and drop me off in Nana (90 minutes) but if you wanted to go the airport from Pattaya it costs 1200 baht and the journey takes about an hour and ten minutes.

As always I chose to stay at Nana Hotel. It's a decent enough hotel but its main selling point is its literally across the road from Nana Plaza, one of the best adult playgrounds in Asia.

My room cost 1300 and is on the 9th floor. The bell-boy placed my luggage down and then said in a hushed tone 'you wan massage sir?' You don't really need help finding girls in Bangkok.

It was about 6 pm and there were plenty of freelancers dotted along soi 4, some of whom were good looking. Promising. I ate a tasty Thai omelette containing spicy pork mince at Bus-Stop and then walked the short distance to my destination for the night.

Nana Plaza is one of my favourite places in SE Asia. It's three storeys of gogo bars and I've taken some absolute stunners from there in the past. I knew the gogo bars wouldn't be open as gogo bars but I was keen to see if there were many pretty girls.

First thing first, you do not need to get tested to enter. There is a desk with security outside and they just require you have a quick temperature check and sanitize your hands.

Quite a lot of the gogo bars on the ground floor were open, with lots of girls sat outside. The beer-bars in the middle seemed to be where you go for a quiet beer without ladydrink pressure. Several bars on the 2nd floor were open too but none on the third. A covers band were playing 'Sweet Home Alabama' in the corner.

So where would I start? There was only one place, Rainbow 5 on the second floor. On previous visits this was the number one bar and I've bar-fined some incredible girls. To get there I took the elevator up on the right and was sad to see Mandarin closed, one of Nana's hidden gems on previous trips.

What used to be Rainbow 4 is now Rainbow 5. You can't miss it with all the red and white lighting outside. There were some pretty Hello, girls and when I was shown inside I was pleased to see 10 girls spread across the two L-shaped stages, albeit sat on stools rather than shuffling around chrome poles. Ordinarily the girls wear skimpy bikinis but now they have to cover up, so wore French maid outfits instead.

One of the reasons I love gogo bars is that you can grab a stool, admire the girls and invite one down for a drink. This was a similar setup. Infinitely more preferable to what I experienced in Pattaya, where there is nothing going on onstage and the waitresses pounce on you for lady-drinks.

There were several strong contenders but I invited a pretty fair-haired girl down. She was sat on a stool next to a friend and was chatting away, sharing jokes, showing off a dazzling smile. She had a great figure and was good company too. She was 23, from Chiang Mai and she told me it was only her fifth day at the bar. My Chang cost 120 baht and her tequila was 195.

It was too early to bar-fine but I enquired about prices anyway. The bar-fine was 600 baht and she quoted an eye-watering 3000 baht for one hour. Long-time was 5,000. Not cheap!

I got hit with a foam whip as I walked past the aptly named Spankeys and settled on a bar on the ground floor for my second drink. It was called Twisters and I ended up offering to buy a drink for a cute girl, who once again ordered tequila (195 b). She downed it quickly and as if by magic a waitress appeared and asked 'one more lady-drink, sir?' Annoying.

The girl and I didn't click but I enquired about prices anyway. The bar-fine was 600 and again she charged 3000 short-time. At least that was for two hours, unlike the girl from Rainbow!

I moved on to Erotica and bought a drink for a lovely girl called Moon. She was good fun and a definite bar-fine candidate. The bar-fine at Erotica is 700 b and Moon once again quoted 3000 for short-time. Of course prices can be negotiated down. I didn't see any girls leaving any of the bars with a customer, so I reckon 2000 would be achievable for short-time.

I decided to abort mission in Nana Plaza as the prices are crazy.

Early evening I'd been quite impressed with the quality of freelancers on soi 4 but by 10 pm there were mainly older girls or ladyboys.

So I decided to head to soi 7, a short walk away, across Sukhumvit. I didn't have high expectations as I believed it would be a revamped Biergarten, which I visited a long while back and was full of seasoned pros. But I was wrong. It was a lively beer bar complex that must have had 30 bars. There were lots of pretty girls, many of whom could easily work in any of the gogo bars. I was hugely impressed.

I saw a beautiful young girl sat on a school and immediately offered her a drink. She was 20 years old and cuteness personified, with braces on her teeth. She spoke basic English but it didn't matter as a rock band playing next to the bar made conversation impossible. She smiled sweetly to me each time I looked at her. I'll name her G for the purpose of this diary.

The bar-fine was 600 and with the help of the mamasan she quoted 2000 short-time and 3000 long-time. I offered 1500 short-time and dangled the carrot of a 500 tip if she made me smile. It's a cheesy line but it always works and usually guarantees an enthusiastic performance.

She agreed and I settled my bill. The mamasan cheekily added a tequila to my bill for herself, which I spotted and made her deduct.

As I stood up to leave a girl approached me and said 'why you go?' Then she saw G come to my side and her face lit up and she gave her a big hug. The girl told me she was G's cousin and it was only G's second day working in a bar and I was her first customer.

G seemed a little nervous back in the room so I let things go at her pace. I let her choose something to watch on TV and she chose a Thai talent show. We must have watched it for an hour before we showered.

I can certainly see why tourists and short-term residents don't want to put in the time. I will also add that the majority of the online girls are much more pleasant to be around. After the Chinatown crawl, my friend headed back home, I went to my hotel to washed up before going back to Thermae Cafe. I made my round and wasn't too impressed. It sucks most of these girls also have a mask on. I did see the blond pixie haired girl I met the day prior. We sat down at a table and talked for a little bit.
