I think you still have to buy a magnetic card to use the Metro. If so, you can use that card to ride the trains and the Metro buses. You can add money to that card just like the Civica card, but only at a Metro station. The Civica card offers a few others things, like renting bicycles, but you probably wouldn't use those.
