If you are worried about your cards being cloned, use Apple pay or similar. My last trip I used it for all the payments except the girls I paid with cash.

More and more is pay by tap these days, so far less concerns about cloning. I have been virtually cash free in the States over the last three years! On a mongering trip I would want to have plenty of cash to pay the girls. I pull that from ATMs from a reputable bank like Bradesco from a safe environment (enclosed setting off of the street). I typically will have enough on me that I will just go ahead and pay for meals, drinks, and any other relatively small costs with cash as well. Bigger costs like the hotel bill go on a credit card. But as long as we're tapping any fear of cloning can be dismissed.

I only have 2 debit cards. I defaulted on all my credit card debt during the pandemic. Seemed like a good time to screw the banks. That being said, I have never used my cards in 15 years of mongering at restaurants, stores, or hooker places like termas or casas. Only used them at ATM machines and hotels when I check in. So far no fraud from using at those 2 places. Want to branch out this trip and rely less on ATM withdrawal and cambios. I can separate checking from savings, so I can transfer money from savings to checking as needed.

I don't think it's necessary just call the uber after you get through customs and immigration. I didn't have to wait long at all. You have to go upstairs to the second floor if I remember correctly. The taxis are all on the 1st floor.

I went to the second floor and the wi fi wasn't working to call an Uber. I ended up paying 20 bucks to the taxi which would have got me an Uber black car. Maybe this trip the Wi-Fi at the airport is fixed. Is is 2023, you would think they would get their head out of their asses by now.

I use my credit cards at all restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, uber rides, and termas in RJ and all restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, clinicas, and boates in SP. I have never been ripped off. On extremely rare occasions (like once every 3 or 4 years) I might see a fraudulent charge on my account. I report it to the bank, they freeze the account, remove the charge, and I move on to different credit card until I go home. So where is the risk? There is none.

Debit cards are another story. I am very careful in the use of my debit cards. I never use them for purchases. I bring many CC's with me on a trip, but I only bring 2 debit cards. My main debit card is issued by Schwab. I only use my Schwab debit card to withdraw cash from my Schwab checking account. I only use ATM machines inside the 2 major Brazilian banks and 5-star hotels. All ATM fees and bank charges are reimbursed to my Schwab account at the end of the month. I also carry a backup debit card issued by Needham Bank (which is zero ATM fees as well) just in case something happens to my Schwab debit card like it is stolen, lost, or destroyed. Cash is for the girls and those rare situations where a CC is not accepted.

The termas charge a fee for cards? My bank doesn't charge a international fee which is why I want to use it at all the termas instead of taking out from the ATM. If that's the fee you were referring too.

Yeah, they (termas, clinicas & boates) tack a fee on top of their price for the use of a CC. I can't say I like the practice, but I still charge at these places because 1. While I am on the road cash is limited, but my credit is not. 2. It is more convenient plus I don't have to carry around much cash. 3. I get back 2% on my CC charges which mitigates a portion of what the bordello is charging for the card. OK 3 was lame because I am still paying around 5% net to charge the card. 4. But, when I am back home and relaxing after a 2-month trip, I do not give a damn about the cumulative bordello CC usage fees I amassed over the length of that voyage. They are meaningless in the big picture.

Now as I previously posted, I prefer to give cash to my girls and what I am specifically referring to here is my financial relationship with SP Boate girls. In SP Boates customers can put the girl's fee on their CC (for a fee) separate from room charges and the bar tabs. I prefer to pay my girls afterwards. I also want my girls to see me take the cash out of my pocket and give it straight to her. No clerks or any third parties involved in our private affair. Anyway, I give the boate girls their money from my cash supply and put every other boate charge on the CC's. The only exception is on those fun nights when I do a 2nd girl and I did not bring enough cash to cover both girls.

Theoretically, yes, and they promise the driver will wait for you in case you're late. However, I've tried it twice (both times in Brazil), and it's never worked for me.
