Read the fine print! Google fi only works for 3 months internationally. Worked great for 3 months and they cut off my data stating a clause that said Fi should but used in the United States. Left me high and dry. Had to get a Claro sim card. Email from Fi stated if I return to US then would reinstate data. I didn't even use a lot of data. About 4 gb a month. Never again!

I use my credit cards at all restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, uber rides, and termas in RJ and all restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, clinicas, and boates in SP. I have never been ripped off. On extremely rare occasions (like once every 3 or 4 years) I might see a fraudulent charge on my account. I report it to the bank, they freeze the account, remove the charge, and I move on to different credit card until I go home. So where is the risk? There is none.

Debit cards are another story. I am very careful in the use of my debit cards. I never use them for purchases. I bring many CC's with me on a trip, but I only bring 2 debit cards. My main debit card is issued by Schwab. I only use my Schwab debit card to withdraw cash from my Schwab checking account. I only use ATM machines inside the 2 major Brazilian banks and 5-star hotels. All ATM fees and bank charges are reimbursed to my Schwab account at the end of the month. I also carry a backup debit card issued by Needham Bank (which is zero ATM fees as well) just in case something happens to my Schwab debit card like it is stolen, lost, or destroyed. Cash is for the girls and those rare situations where a CC is not accepted.

I agree. I carry multiple CC and debit cards when traveling (stored in a safe location), but I also subscribed to identity theft monitoring (Identity Force) for additional security.

At the end of the day, I really only carry or take out cash for women. And most of that cash will be stored in a safe location and not on me.

So is Google FI data or Wi-Fi in Brazil. Since you can't get a Brazilian SIM card in Brazil like Mexico, does google fi give you a new number with data and Wi-Fi. You would be using data in Brazil with google fi. Is that correct.

It doesn't always work for some reason. Usually these are the merchants that want you to select currency so they can make some money out of it. It seem to work most of the time in smaller city that the currency selection rarely come up.

Can anyone comment on June or July in Rio regarding weather, beaches, parties, termas, prives, etc? Wondering if it is worth it to go in these months?

I love winters in Rio, although I'm probably in minority. It's still warm and sometimes hot, but can be cool and very pleasant in the evenings, plus the beaches are a little less crowded. As for the venues you've mentioned, they have nothing to do with the season. Everything stays open.

I only have 2 debit cards. I defaulted on all my credit card debt during the pandemic. Seemed like a good time to screw the banks. That being said, I have never used my cards in 15 years of mongering at restaurants, stores, or hooker places like termas or casas. Only used them at ATM machines and hotels when I check in. So far no fraud from using at those 2 places. Want to branch out this trip and rely less on ATM withdrawal and cambios. I can separate checking from savings, so I can transfer money from savings to checking as needed.

Protection from debit cards sucks. You must be extremely careful and check your account every second day, while credit cards will not hold you liable for any unauthorized transactions. I don't even worry about a credit card fraud, but aside from Schwab (abroad), I never use debit cards if I can help it.
