Once you are in the beach road or 2nd area it isn't as bad if you actually have to navigate the traffic yourself. Personally, the traffic getting into town has been worse than pre-covid. A week ago at T-21, there were close to 10 buses parked inside each side closing off the driveway into the parking lot to one lane. There are lots of Chinese in town but they don't translate into the nightlife.

I've been using the Ekamai bus from Pattaya Nua for close to 15 years and always found it to be good not once had I had a crazy driver look at their history I could only remember one accident being on the news. For the price even today 131 is a bargain to Bangkok. Majority of the time I tell the attendant to get off at Udom Suk and walk up to the BTS 40 baht. I'm to Nana in minutes reason on weekdays the Bus once into Sukhumvit takes a good 30 minutes to the station.

Returning is a bit different, if you happen to catch a bus that has residents in Chon Buri, Siracha, or Laem Chabang, the ride is a bit longer no much. Buses are in constant contact with others ahead if there is an accident or jam they are given an alternative route. So whenever I need to go in the choice is always the bus. To the airport depending on the time of flight I use Bell which now operates again out of Nua, the price has actually dropped from 250 to 190, my last time end of March they have reconfigure the seating seats bigger like first-class 6 am in the morning never happened I was the only one on the bus always max 1:25 time.

If you can avoid, the mini Van! Although operated by the same company.

Yesterday. Monday. Pattaya bus station to Ekkakmai. Left Pattaya 9. 25 am.

Arrived Ekkami in under 2 hours. The Bus Driver was not speeding or weaving in and out of Traffick.

Why is my experience with traffic so unlike others. Weird.

It's because you (smartly) departed Pattaya nice and early on the final day of a 3-day weekend. If you leave before 11 am you can usually avoid the worst of holiday weekend traffic, even at New Years / Songkran (you'll also avoid having to wait a long time for vacant bus seat). Having enjoyed a leisurely lunch I (stupidly) left Jomtien at 3:15 pm that day so I caught the worst of it. Better to leave early in the day or super early (5 am) the day after a holiday weekend, I think, to avoid huge traffic jams.

Traffic was crazy this past weekend and it likely seems quieter now I think because everyone (meaning Thai / local tourists) went home after the long weekend, and it's now officially low season for international tourists. Driving home Monday May 1 took twice as long as it normally does. Hell, it took me 30 minutes just to get to highway 7 (main highway back to Bangkok) and then another 2. 5 hours to get to the eastern part of Bangkok.

Just a quick note that Thursday May 4 is another holiday here in Thailand, and I expect many will take another long weekend this coming weekend (despite Friday not being an official holiday). As well, advance polls for the election are this coming Sunday so my understanding is that there will be the usual bar closing / alcohol ban from 6 pm Saturday May 6 to 6 pm Sunday May 7. The same thing will be repeated next weekend (closing at 6 pm on Saturday May 13 until 6 pm Saturday May 14), as May 14 is the actual election date. This will be throughout Thailand, not just in Pattaya, so you can plan accordingly.

Maybe it was the May 1 holiday, or maybe Low Season is here.

Just because they are military doesn't mean 5000 is going to evade Pattaya.
