I'm back in Pattaya for hopefully most or all of the summer.

As I get older, the flight over from the US East coast gets more challenging- both in terms of handling the 26-30 hour flight duration and the 11 hour jet lag time zone displacement. Science* says that one day of recovery is required for every time zone crossed and I've found this to be true. European / Aussie mongers will not experience this problem and think us American's soft but I assure you the struggle is real. I spent my "recovery" time in high energy trekking type stuff in other SEA countries which was probably not wise in some ways but turned out ok. I arrived in Pattaya more or less recovered from the circadian displacement. My plan for future trips is to break the flight up with a day or so in Doha or Dubai, or even 3 or 4 in Istanbul..

I'm on the west coast and it ends up being about the same amount of time for us crossing the pacific and connecting primarily through Japan, the trip ends up being around 30 hours to BKK. In addition, it consists of three flights for me as I don't live near an international hub.

Good to hear things are still well like last year in Pattaya.

I'm back in Pattaya for hopefully most or all of the summer.

As I get older, the flight over from the US East coast gets more challenging- both in terms of handling the 26-30 hour flight duration and the 11 hour jet lag time zone displacement. I arrived in Pattaya more or less recovered from the circadian displacement. My plan for future trips is to break the flight up with a day or so in Doha or Dubai, or even 3 or 4 in Istanbul.

I'm not sure if much is all that changed from this time last year- if anything it does seem a bit more energized and populated, but in some ways it really doesn't. More investigation is warranted. My Hotel Manager friend says they had a great "extended season" but come June his bookings have dropped off a cliff and the prices will go down. I'm staying at a high-mid range hotel in the Buakhao area but will switch to one of my favored long term hotels in a week or so..

From my observation guys are not getting Hosed at gogos spending 4-5 times what you spent.

The excitement builds during the drive, and I'm usually wide awake by the time we arrive in Pattaya. That gives me several hours of energy to get settled in, to lay in some supplies and to have a bite of lunch. Always at the J. Daeng, by the way. There's just something about being at ground zero in central Pattaya that screams HOLIDAY.

As the afternoon wears on it's the middle of the night on my body clock and it's easy to take a combat nap. The secret is to set the alarm for around sunset, lest my schedule shift into total vampire mode. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) The first night I'm tempted to go hard. But that's a rookie move. A few drinks and a few laughs with the usual suspects, then perhaps a quick snack and I'm back in bed.

I know I'll bolt awake around dawn, but that's fine. The key is to get outside and walk to breakfast - preferably staying outdoors while dining. For the next few days I still need an afternoon snooze. But usually after three or four days I'm on Pattaya time.

Good to see Mr. Sopheni posting again. I look forward to his take on the ground truth during the low season.

Think of GoGo Bars sort of like strip clubs. The only difference is there is a higher chance you might get to buy the girl out for short time versus at a strip club.

I think all your questions relate to beer bars on Soi 6 and not Gogo Bars. They're different from each other.

On Thai Friendly, girls are now asking 1500-2000 as a start rather than 1000-1500. I'm happy letting most of the 2000 hang in the wind- many of these girls are not in touch with reality with other girls of similar caliber asking for 1500. When things get slow soon I'm sure their tune will change.
