The first thing you should know about Brazilian women is that, if you are in a bar or club, they are very quick to jump down your throat. I have had normal relationships with many Colombians and many Brazilians. They are both the same. If a woman anywhere loves you and wants to be with you then the relationship reflects that. It has nothing to do with having a yes woman who never tells you no about anything.

When I was in Colombia, the woman I was with spent two hours preparing a meal. In Colombia, the government has declared that Venezuelans be paid the same minimum wage as Colombians. Maybe there are some, but I have never heard of anyone having servants in Colombia.

When I went to upscale homes in Argentina and Brazil, the servants prepared the meal, did the cleaning, and hell even raised the children. I met an Argentine who lived in Canada that was skiing two days after giving birth, and the reason she was able to do was that she had so much help. She said in Canada she would have had only one child but she was able to have four because she had so much help. And every upscale home I looked at in Brazil and Argentina had servants quarters.

The helpers typically come from rural Brazil or Paraguay, and they are paid next to nothing. A Brazilian lawyer wanted to pay her servant more but she was told by neighbors not to do so as to not raise the price on everyone else. It is kind of like the guys here bitching at others for paying the hookers more.

If your money was properly invested and with little risk tolerance yes, you could live in perpetuity with that much and live like a king in Medellin.

I cannot imagine doing a business in Brazil. Granted, Venezuela is worse, but I would even do Argentina over Brazil, and Argentina like Venezuela has a culture that says swindling people is okay. Both countries have defaulted on their debt like ten times. Still, unlike Venezuela, Argentina works as a country much better because of a crazy barter system and personal trust. There does seem to be a small subset of people in Argentina you can trust.

Brazil's slogan is that it is going to be the next great country in the world and always will be, and I did not get why until I went there. OMG, the system is corrupt. The rich people have tied up so much that it is very hard for the poor to get ahead, and I was not impressed with the work ethic in general of the Brazilians.

Wow great to hear from someone who has personal experience with both hotels, I am planning to book one of them for one day and then decide where to spend rest to the time after looking on both when I reach there, I have to visit Medellin from August 3 to August 23 , I know that this area is a little dangerous (I have been there only 2 times but only in daylight) , do to think its too dangerous to stay there as you have personal experience staying that area?

Sorry it took me a few days to get back to you, I've been pretty busy lately. The area is fine during the day, just don't go flashing around your "coin" or your IPhone 16 XL or whatever and you will be fine. I'd say be back in your hotel by no later than 9 pm but usually most the action moves to Poblado and Parque Lleras by the time, where the same girls charge guys like MB1 5 times more because they are gringos and have "the coin" LOL. But yea you will be fine in the Botero / Veracruz are during the day time hours.

Also if you want to save urself a little "coin" and put it to other uses such as a second polvo, and you don't mind walking a few blocks thru the scary congrete jungle, I would recommend the hotels on the other side of avenida oriental one block past Exito San Antonio. The area is called El Palo con El Huevo and there are several hotels there that will be even cheaper than Calle Real or Premier Plaza.

As upper middle class I can choose to fly under the radar in a third world country. Not bring much attention on myself and have my budget extend way further. From cheap hotels to Hostels I've been able to stay in countries much longer not pay a premium for lodging and women and search for those diamonds in the rough in the slummier mongering locations. I speak Spanish fluently and have had great experiences without breaking the bank. For me a pretty comfy bed and a roof over my head is all I need. Plus meeting likeminded backpackers and world travelers from all walk of life is fun when staying in hostels. If I meet a higher maintenance type of girl I always have the option of a nicer love motel or booking a 5 star hotel for one or 2 nights if necessary. I'm not flashy nor am I dirty and unhygienic. Upper thirties, fit, decent looking white Latino dude and you will find me having fun in Santa Fe, Centro Medellin or Gringo Gulch CR. If I want to treat a great girl I find to luxury we can always take a trip somewhere like Guatape or the beach.

Analogy: I try not to assume well off people from any City when going out into the woods always go glamping. Maybe a tent and a sleeping bag and connecting with the raw somewhat dangerous nature of it all is exciting to some. To others maybe not.

El Centro is much more than just Botero or Veracruz, it is the heart of the city where you can find anything your looking for whether that be bandeja paisa, paintings being sold by local artists, even shower heads and excellent quality knock off shoes. I myself like to sip on a 2 mil lemonade while sitting down and people watching.

As far as the prostitution goes sure there are a lot of undesirable hags in the Veracruz area but there are also beautiful, sweet diamonds in the rough to be found there, it just takes a little effort to find what you are looking for. To blow the whole place off is just asinine. But hey I guess if you've got "the coin" you can live in your own little arrogant world.

I had a nest egg that would be about that if adjusted for inflation from the time I retired 11 years ago. I have been living all over and I budget my shit right and I have about the same amount of inflation adjusted money as I did when I retired. Didn't work much, some, and have lived very comfortably. I think you are younger like maybe 40 but if you have a million after tax and ANY brains and skills at all, and have experience working on line, you should go for it. But don't think about interest. Think about capital gains. If you want money to last forever, you have to have substantial exposure to equities vs. Income-oriented investments.

Interesting question and of course would depend on how you would live in Colombia. Will you be living in Poblado in a strata 5 or 6 neighborhood or a lower strata neighborhood. Are you going to be eating in fancy places or at home. Are you going to be patronizing with SW's, have some girlfriends, or whatever. Where are you going to park this money, was your intent to bring it in to Colombia? Maybe rephrase your question with some parameters as to what your expectations are, and perhaps others can help answer your question better.

Regardless, a guy could easily live in Medellin for twenty years on $ 500,000 if he invested his money wisely.

Excuse the pedantics and this digression from posting on the noble pursuit of Paisa pussy, but here goes a needed corrective to the post quoted above.

Applying the label "third world" to any country is 40 years out of date, and in the case of Colombia is quite inaccurate and could reasonably be perceived as patronizing and insulting. The terms "First", "Second" and "Third World" date to the Cold War era, when the allied, industrialized "Western Bloc" countries (also including the Eastern likes of Australia and Japan) were designated as "First World", the Communist bloc countries allied with the Soviet Union were "Second World", and most all the other non-allied countries were "Third World". However, in popular usage Third World came to imply impoverished" and "undeveloped" although it included countries such as Saudi Arabia and Uruguay with high per capita incomes. Since the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1992 these categorizations have lost their relevance.

Today some commentators refer to "developed" versus "developing countries". However, the World Bank and IMF use a more neutral (non-judgmental) categorization based on four income groups: low, lower-middle, upper-middle, and high income. It might surprise some to learn that Colombia (and most all of South America) is classified as "Upper-Middle Income"--far removed from the "third world" implied stigma. Guatemala city fast houses were 7.50-11 usd. I had a 3 some for 120 q = 15 usd in Guatemala. I always bring my own protection and I blend in. Looking for the barrios in Medellin.
