You can hang out in the lower level of 4 X4 in street clothes, or at least you could. I don't think that's changed. But in my opinion, if you don't go through the whole change into a robe thing, then you're missing one of the most fun aspects of the entire experience, especially if it's your first time. If you're a big guy, then you can ask at the desk for an extra large robe, and they should be able to accommodate you. There have been times when I have asked for a little larger robe myself.

So I'm really leaning towards bringing my own robe. Would 4 x 4 have a problem with that or bringing a tiny duffle bag for the locker. I don't want to explain to a taxi driver why the hell I have a robe in my lap. LMAO.

Not sure about bringing your own robe but I always wear my regular clothes in 4 x 4 and never had any weird looks. The only people's clothes, or lack of, that the men care about is the women's.

Monte Carlo is getting lots of good reviews lately and I plan on trying it again but when I went a few years ago, the robe I got was had holes and rips in it.

I was in Rio one time and I believe it was at Monte Carlo where I saw a couple of guys wearing monogrammed robes LOL! Well they were big guys so I guess it was a good idea to bring their own personal robes that were a good fit for them. Worst robes in town were at Centaurus man all tattered and shit. Going to ask a dumb question. I am 90% sold on taking my first trip to Brazil. I've been spending most of my mongering time in MDE lately and feeling like finding somewhere new. Flirted with the idea of DR, but since RJ is on the beach, that wins out. My question, or problem, is I don't speak Portuguese at all. I know Google Translate is a lifesaver and that'll be my plan I suppose. But generally speaking, I'm a guy who likes longer dates to get to know the girl. I'm going to learn some basic phrases but I'll never be able to reach conversational level before my trip. Question: is there a method, location, or style of mongering that would increase my chances of finding a girl with at least minimal English?

You're overreacting. Not to say this shit doesn't happen -- it does, but Brazil is not Colombia, so it's still rare. And you'll protect yourself even better if you befriend the doorman and ask him (them) to watch your back. In other words, the fear of getting poisoned wouldn't prevent me from renting an apartment in Rio, but to each his own.

That being said, love hotels are awesome if you book a right room with a right woman. Also, some rentals don't allow visitors at all, in which case you're forced to use a motel.

I know there will be a visa required to enter Brazil at some point this year. I am going the first week of Sept. From US and coming back mid Sept. Do you think I will be ok without visa?

Also can anyone recommend some higher end hotels with security who register the escorts' IDs during visits for our safety? I would preferably want a suite with a kitchen as I have a friend coming with me.

Anyway let's assume he is telling the truth. Another example of how dangerous apartments are to rent. A hotel with guest registration is so much more secure. Nothing is 100% because they could have a fake ID but it's better than nothing. Still follow the basic rules. Beater phone just for mongering. Take financial apps off your phone. Take only money you need per day to limit losses. Register guest. Never stay at apartments if you are bringing valuables like iPhone iPad recording equipment. If you don't have much in your apartment then I guess you can take the risk.
