Thank you brother MilleMiglia! I wasn't going to write the rest up until I saw your message. Many individuals positing either know it all or have issues. They are like the two old muppets on the balcony, grumpy, angry and complaining about everything.

As I sit down to write this next installment of my trip report, I am having a cup of coffee brewed from Colombia 100% Arabica Cafe Britt Pitalito Laboyano Huila. It was harsh initially. But as it cooled off taste mellowed. A strong full bodied brew that I relished and made me wish I was back in Colombia. Now onto the good stuff.
As I said before, I'm wifed up this week so good sex and conversation or was it good conversation then sex. I'm hungry. We shower up and I got to have my North American Style Breakfast (you know the style from the United States of America not Canada or Mexico). Hope that gives some clarity on type of breakfast I am looking for.
Uber to Poblado. First trip in Medellin it's daylight and I'm all eyes. Shooting photos like a damn tourist (cause I am) and really enjoying the trip. We arrived at Dandre. 8800 COP. And I'm loving it. They are serving breakfast like a boss. And I know of what I speak. As I made money while going to university being a brunch chief on the weekends. My standards are high. A place needs to equal or be better than what I can produce in my own kitchen. And this place was. Water and coffee. Pancakes, bacon (crisp the way I like it) and scrambled eggs hard. My girl does not like breakfast, so she found something on the lunch menu (a sandwich) they were serving and it was chow down time. Breakfast was rocking and I was happy. Already my vacation is starting out well because I can't get anything close to this in a restaurant where I live. Bill comes: 85,441 COP.
We out and we are walking. I have no idea where I am but along the walk is a money exchange place. Much better rate than at the airport (I'm making MongerHunter look like a mother fucking genius): 4100 COP to USD. Grab my stack. But I am still tripping on the numbers. 4000 COP = 1 USD, 20,000 COP = 5 USD. Ok, making a little mental progress. We keep walking to a park to investigate a day trip. That is done and I want to see a mall. We hop in a yellow taxi to Santafe: 8950.
We hit the mall and I am complete amazed by what I see. Modern mall that rivals anything I have seen during all of my world travels. I had no idea. As we are walking I catch a glimpse of one of my favorite type of stores. Sunglasses. And I'm checking them out. Found a bad ass pair in burgundy, mirrored, no frame, (oakley style) and buying them. With my decision made my girl is like "what about me". I'm like, find a pair you like. She looks, and looks and looks and finally declares she does not like any of them and that they are too expensive. Suit yourself. Take me to where your buy your sunglasses and I'll get you a pair. Plastic in hand and I'm adding 299,800 to the local economy. Yes!
We keep walking and happen upon a Dollar City. Are you kidding me? My date explains how the store works. Says it is one of her favorite. We are in and we are shopping. I need office supplies a few things for the apartment that were important to me. Some water and other various things. We got the cart together so I told my girl to throw in what she wanted. She stopped to try on sunglasses. Found a pair she liked. And told me that is how she shops. Hit the caja: 115100 COP. We rolling. Uber from Sanafe to outside of El Centro: 10,500 COP. And we are walking in, to meet the sister my girl. I am just taking in sights, We get to their destination and they do their business inside the store. I'm on the street just observing. I see a fruit cart. 2000 COP for 6 Bananas. Give me the bag! I'm off. They are back from their task and surprised I didn't get myself into trouble and was able to make a purchase on my own. We say good bye to her sister and her sisters child and we break in other direction. We are headed to the salon and we have and appointment. She is getting hair washed and styled, Mani / pedi, Gel nails on her fingers and toes and I'm getting the mani / pedi. Everything on me. I am telling you the Colombians are about their business. The best mani / pedi I have ever gotten in my life. My nails a gleaming. Don't look cause they will blind you. We both looking like million bucks and I get the bill. 135,000 COP for us both. WTF? While waiting for here to finish I took some picture and placed up a bottle of lotion for 15,000 COP.
We are walking and it is night at this time. And we are en route to San Diego for food. It was a serious walk. But walking is good for me. All I got is my health and enjoyment of my life. Finally we arrive at San Diego food court and it is time to eat. I'm hungry after that walk. She tells me Bananza Parrilla is good. So I'm looking at the food in the pictures, the food on the grill and the food going out to the clients and yes, indeed is it looks good. I put in my order. 53,400 COP. Yikes what did I order? This numbers are still messing with my head. She goes to her favorite chicken place: 21900 COP. Ok, so hers is less than half of mine so it can't be all that bad. They give me an electronic thing to call me back. I'm tripping. Real service at a food court. My food is ready and what and eye feast. And it tastes just as good. I take a before and after picture. I tore it up. We walk back to our apartment and I stop at the 24 -hour cafe for some cake 2500 COP. Starting to get a feel for the money here. Up to the apartment. Oh, my girl. Well sex is a given and she lets me flood the zone. Nothing to really report there. I don't know what her demand is. Or what market she is in. But I'm sure one of these experts on prostituion will try to tell me something about how a real relationship should work based on the extensive knowledge of pay for play they have developed while playing baseball in Medellin.
What a day! Amazing! Someone told me that if I was not happy visiting Medellin, I should not return. I won't be listing to that guy. It is a good thing I learned a long time ago to take a look at things with my own eyes and make my own evaluations.
I lost 7. 31 USD on my first change of money. Ooops. I could have looked for an ATM. They are not my friends. And I guess if you have never had a transaction denied or a card snatched from you by the ATM machine then I understand individuals who have absolute blind faith in how computer systems work. Rely on the plastic and never carry cash, never has happened for the 34 countries of the world I have visited. And not going to happen in the future. Considering that I bought AAPL using my Charles Schwab brokerage account when it was 10 maybe I have a reason for doing what I do when I do it. I forgot that I no longer travel as a diplomat and no one is waiting for me at the airport with my envelope of local currency and security briefing.

Posts: 18164It was the end of the freelance market as far as most foreigners were concerned. Most guys would only get chicks from Meia Pataca, Help or Terraco Atlantico (restaurant in front of and connected to Help), and with Help closed down and Meia Pataca being a family restaurant now, you do not see a saturation of gringo mongers as you did before. The most you see these days is a few guys at Mabs late at night. And there is nary a looker at that place as there used to be at Terraco Atlantico when Help was open. That place is more the Star Wars bar these days.

P.S. Help was closed down in 2009, almost 14 years ago.

Posts: 4349Add these other locations where you can find large numbers of Colombian providers: Aruba, Panama, St. Maarten / St. Martin, Dominican Republic, Spain, France, UK, and even Medellin.

Posts: 4349This is the key point and it's obviously more meaningful than what happens to any small sample of acquaintances.

Posts: 4349I am grateful your friends are not representative of the overall availability. The scenario you describe is known as human trafficking. There are also domestic networks that send Medellin based girls to Cucuta and elsewhere in Norte de Santander. As another poster correctly pointed out, none of this is new. The reason I doubt it will have significant impact on the local scene is because new providers come into the game on a constant basis. If it turns out I'm wrong I would be open to relocating. I don't see that happening but time will tell.

Posts: 307LOL there's new workers turning 18 everyday in Medellin. The price will go up only in the tourist trap areas and for scrubs like MB1.

Posts: 3802Medellin will always be a mongering destination because it's not limited to being a mongering destination for just foreigners.

And mongering in Medellin is unique with so many different ways to roll from the SW's, Facebook, clubs, casa's, bars, independents on the Web, etc. I can't thing of any other mongering venue that has so much to offer mongering wise besides Thailand.
If there wasn't a locals mongering scene here, perhaps Medellin will wane, but I just don't see it happening.
In economic terms, it's still relatively cheap here compared to other mongering destinations, but since Colombia has come out of the "dark ages" from twenty years ago, and with people from abroad working here on US or European salaries, prices of things including pussy seem to be skyrocketing, with no end in sight.

Posts: 425Go back 10 years in this forum they been saying the same thing. It will always be this way. The one thing that has changed is the rent prices even with inflation though. But its always going to be like this, look at Rio. When they closed down Help almost 2 decades ago everyone was saying "oh this is the end of hookers in Rio" its still going strong and still reasonable prices.

Posts: 11Hope you enjoy your trip SubCmdr. Lots of great info from your posts in the Dominican thread. Official taxi from MDE are 90 k and that includes tolls as the airport is something like a 45 min away from the actual city. Have you considered using a schwabb checking account or capital one checking account and using the debit card (no no fees from these banks) to withdraw money instead of exchanging actual currency? Also, you should try guarapo (cane juice with lime in it. Similar to our united states lemonade, but much better) and bandeja paisa (a meal with a little bit of everything on the plate. It originated in this area). Have fun.
