I am new to the line scene. I have downloaded line to my phone, but do not want to sign up with my US number. I am going to purchase an e-sim card for Thailand, just before my arrival. Would I be able to link my Thailand e-sim number to line, without linking my US sim?

With Suvarnabhumi Airport, it's easiest to just walk up to the dozen or so mobile service kiosks, hand them your phone, some cash, and they'll install a sim card for you, and boom! You've got a local Thai number with fast internet and then you'd install Line and Grab, no link to your US number whatsoever, cause your phone is now using a local Thai sim card. So uninstall your line now, and install it again after you get the Thai sim card. Trust me dude, it's super simple and in some of the electronic stores in the big fancy malls, specifically when you buy something from them, they'll help you install everything. Within a few days of my own arrival to Thailand last summer for my sex-travaganza trip, I bought a great and cheap mobile phone there, they did everything for me. It's Asia dude, customer service all the way. Ain't like the US where you're treated like shit everywhere you go. Thailand is paradise!

Had similar situation over time. Since then I use in my mobile, iPad and computer. While changing the phone I always lost my date (even while I have a backup), when I send a message from the other device it's visual on the phone directly.

I've changed phones more times since getting Line than I care to remember and I've never lost anything during phone changes. I have iPhone, but I'm confident that Android has something equivalent. I do automated nightly backups via WiFi to iCloud and then about weekly I do a wired encrypted manual backup to my laptop using iTunes. Before I go to the phone store, the last thing I do is a manual backup to my laptop. When I get my new phone, I take it straight home and do a restore from my laptop. I can't remember every losing anything from any of my phone apps.
