Posts: 10It's reasonable to assume that as tourist numbers have increased in recent years, so will crimes against tourists, so the raw number goes up but the crimes per capita (percentage) is more likely to have gone down.

However the number of international visitors to Medellin in 2022 was over 1. 4 million.

That's a rate of 1. 7 homicides per 100,000 which makes it safer than most US cities. The avg for Colombia is 27.1, the US is 6. 8, I'm taking the risk as the UK is 1. 2.
As for crime in general, getting mugged, drugged, whatever. It's the same rule as travelling anywhere, just don't be stupid. Don't walk around strange neighbourhoods at night, don't walk around with your expensive phone out, don't start shit with the locals, don't get so drunk you can't find your way home, don't accept candy from strangers, that kind of thing. Same rules as Thailand, the Philippines, Barcelona or New Orleans. If you're not a complete idiot Medellin is perfectly safe.
The best thing you can do to avoid a dangerous situation is to look out for and avoid them. No matter where in the world you are.

Posts: 102LOL, manhandled indeed! It was my first time there and I was in my early 30's. I had a hotel in botero and was scouting for some action (just not that kind of action). Many years later, I tried going out at night just to see what I had missed. It def wasn't worth it. The girls wanted more money than the casas and they upsold like crazy. At the time the casa girls were hotter too.

Posts: 1670I've seen those old gringos before sitting and drinking with the chicas near the Vera Cruz mall. Sometimes they have music blasting and trying to look cool. It's kind of funny to me. They look very out of place. The first time I seen them I was like WTF?

Posts: 410Exactly high end Mexican narcos know not to go to Colombia, they would more likely find local or get their chicas flown in to Mexico. The lower end ones or regular guys choose local options.

Posts: 410IDK where you are getting your info from but crime on Gringos is up. Whether that is a function of more gringos going there and being stupid or being targettid I'll stay curious about. But definitely the number of scopings and robbery v Gringos is up compared to pre pandemic.

There have been rude loud-mouth gringos hanging around a bench at the Veracruz since the beginning of Covid pandemic, and they are inviting problems to other foreigners. These overweight, unattractive guys act obnoxious, drink with working girls and fight with local punks on the center of promenade. Locals hate them. Most of them had their belongings stolen and some of them were extorted to pay money for their security. Basically they are advertising that foreigners are easy to be stolen and they deserved to be so. Just be careful at Botero and stay away from local hustlers and loud-mouth gringos.

I hate the hot sticky MDE weather- I am from LA and do not miss the hot weather-- Sure some areas are dirty-- but not the RedLight area.

Posts: 98Third night out at Botero.
More people out tonight so stayed till 10:00 pm again. My sleep pattern is all screwed up.
The thief girl asks me for money and not in a friendly way. I never give anything and she moved on.
9:30 pm police van and motorcycle pull up at the church / Mor Dis because / pharmacy corner. They walk down the pathway towards bar street. One guy has the child arm patch and they are checking IDs for underage girls. None were there and the guys were sitting together chatting and the girls were sitting together chatting so the guys were not trying to pickup any of the girls. Police make their way down the alley. The big girl from the night before has been chatting with the gringos off and on earlier. After the police leave she tells one of the gringos that the police wanted one of the girls to pretend to be too young so they could make money off the gringos (extortion).
I speak no Spanish so no idea if this was said of not. Sadly, the other gringo who speaks Spanish was not smart enough to ask the other girls if they too were asked to do the same thing (lie about their age). I try to verify stories I hear and this was important to know. I learned before not to have him ask intelligent questions. It gets watered down and lost in translation.
Stayed one month and hated it. Miserably cold. She did not want me touching her with my cold hands and I did not want her touching me with her cold hands. People and dog piss and shit everywhere.

Posts: 944SF girls and La Isla girls are in completely different leagues quality wise. You can compare SF to street sweeties of El Centro, but not to the most high end strip club in Medellin. Sure, La Isla got some bad apples, but overall quality is far superior. And since the rates are fixed, even though pricey, you can choose any girls you want for the same price. SF and El Centro are great only for someone on a limited budget, with low standards (can fuck pretty much anyone). My first 9/10 I did fuck at La Isla, when I first got to Medellin about 8 yrs ago. The girl was a fitness model with 6-pack abs. Cost me around $100 back then. You can't find a fitness model in a dump place like SF or El Centro.

Agreed. Same quality as la isla for for 150 k 20 minutes instead of 550 k 30 minutes. But ig not as safe. That's what you're paying for at la isla. Safety. I would still do Santa Fe over la isla. I would only put Santa Fe above la isla if the prices come down to 350 k again.
