As you board you just stop on the scale and there was a guy about 12 feet away with the readout and a computer taking down all the data. Traditionally a generic weight has always been used for passengers on big planes. Smaller planes you have to input the weight of each person. Flying out of LAX I normally take Singapore Airlines or EVA Air. In both cases the trip takes more than 24 hours.

I often fly Air Nippon out of BKK to LAX, with a quick stopover in Nippon.

I discovered if I buy a ticket with a multi-day stopover in Japan, the ticket price drops by $300. So, for my January trip to the USA, I plan to go with a bargirl, and spend some time with her in Tokyo (at the end of the stopover, she will fly back to Thailand alone, while I press on to LAX).

No they don't. There are tons of routes to take to Thailand from the USA. England, France, Italy, Qatar, Dubai, India, Sweden, the list goes on. From the east coast of the USA it takes the same time to travel to Thailand across the Atlantic as it does across the Pacific.

For me, the travel time depends most on my layover time. Years ago I used to get a Cathay Pacific flight that kept me on the ground in Hong Kong for very short time and my total gate to gate time was about 20 hours. Those flights are now gone and the lower cost flights now give me much longer layovers. My November 2022 trip took 32 hours gate to gate because of huge hours waiting in Europe. Total time in the air wasn't much different.

My February 2022 flight required longer airtime than scheduled due to the situation in Ukraine. The shortest distance would have been right over Ukraine, but my flight stayed several hundred kilometers away. I suspect the flight schedules have now been compensated for that situation.
