But they can check you on the way out, and again, the posted limit for declaration on the way out is 10 K Reais. In fact, it was a sign on outbound Customs where I first noticed it was reais, not USD.

Have you tried to learn the language? I am curios what do you mean by meaningful human interaction?

I'm picking up a little bit here and there, it seems like kind of a difficult language to learn.

I guess by meaningful human interaction I meant something not superficial based on people wanting your money? Or something other than tudo bem. LOL.

I have a friend here but he has a wife and kid and she seems pretty controlling and doesn't really want him coming out much with me.

We did a lot of the tourist attractions together, went to Buzios for a few days which was cool, but now I seem to be pretty much on my own. Trying to get a Brazilian girlfriend but its hard, they seem real flaky. Not speaking Portuguese doesn't help much.

Why make it so complicated? You are arriving in Aeroporto Santos Dumont and going to Copacabana, propably with some luggage. Taxi won't be expensive as it's quite a short ride. Uber will be even cheaper. Do you prefer getting a VLT card and head to the metro, getting a metro card, bring your luggage down to the metro platform, go to Copacabana, head up with your luggage and walk to the place where you're going to stay? Also, why should a taxi be cheaper from Carioca than Santos Dumont, when Carioca is further away?

BTW, corretamente and not correctomenche.

The taxi mafia at Santos Dumont Airport charge a fortune, at least double the normal taxi meter fare.

I was talking bringing reals back to America from Brazil. If you bring back 10 k reals, do you have to declare since it only has a value of 2 k.
