    Election

Son of a *****. No idea this was coming up. And I arrive in 2 weeks! Guess I better keep my head down. I think I will take a taxi straight from Ivato to Cotisse and book something out the following day if things get nasty.

I don't think you can pay with CC. I always paid cash. Of course you can pay with mvola. Reservation is not an issue as I'm time millionaire. As far as I know a lot of malagasy reserve by phone. If I go a few days earlier or later doesn't matter to me. Now with the town office in Tripolitsa it's very convenient to book there. But there's a good alternative now not on all routes. It's Soatrans. They have new VW Crafter Busses. If you go to Fianarantsoa or Tamatave they're a good alternative. I wanted to try them out from Fianar to Tana. But. They were fully booked. As the president was in town last June. So I ended up with Cotisse which was okish.

    Street vendors

It was notable by leaving LE glacier with a girl, they often wanted to sell you condoms. To me that's telling you all you need to know about it.

Yes only orange money or mvola payment option was available last summer.

It makes difference I think because I have always thought Madagascar differently about this issue compare to Africa. But if this statistics are true then it is not.

Pre-election violence. Bodies lying about beat to a pulp. The army's in the street. Limited to Tana so far. Either wait till after the election, or go directly from Ivato to elsewhere, except seats on flights even more limited than usual.

0,3 or 3% does it make any different and why?

    3%

I wonder why they concentrated on the north? Nosy Be and Diego? They also mention mining and to my knowledge most of the mining is on the way to Tamatave and near Fort dauphin (and north of Tulear? All far from the north. I won't discount the numbers but I always am a little suspect after the huge scares in some places with supposedly massive numbers. Cambodia 25 years back was supposed to be something like 30%. Treatment was pretty useless compared to now but the following few years did not see 30 $ of the population die off.

    Use your commonsense

The wide spread promiscuity and on the hot spots enhanced by tourists and les putes - 0. 3% obvious is a wishful thought.

The way they made this study and were they took the samples is the other question.

    3% hiv rate in Madagascar?

I was a bit shocked when I saw this report on Medrxiv website. According to them the real hiv prevalence rate is not 0.3% but it is 3% percent and this is a new report from 2023.

This is from the report: To our knowledge, this study marks the largest primary test data-based HIV study to date among Madagascar's general population, showing a greatly higher HIV prevalence (3.0%) than previously reported modeling based figures (0.3%.
