I promise not to PM, LOL. Your indriver practice works. I think you are spot on. I say this from the perspective of someone who has lived here before, during, and after the pandemic. Another way to understand the phenomenon is to compare it to a romantic relationship with a girlfriend or wife. During the starry eyed early days the object of your affection seems like the most beautiful girl in the world.
