I've never felt unsafe while in VM as there are always a lot of people around and unless you start a fight with someone, no one is going to bother you or rob you. Getting there from the Sao Cristovao metro station or Praca Bandeira bus stop may be a little dodgy but can be avoided by Ubering to VM. The problem with VM is almost all of the girls there are unfuckable and even if you found one you liked the rooms are tiny, filthy little cabins with narrow beds with sheets that are not changed after a session (this applies to the bars in the horseshoe. I don't know about the bars across the street). Went there last Friday and, out of the dozens of girls working there, only saw one blond in the horseshoe that might be fuckable and another in one of the bars across the street. It could be worth going there just to see what the poor locals are fucking and to say you've been there, but don't go there expecting to to fuck anyone.

I always find something there.

Just takes patience and I always use the very seldom used suite rooms that a few of the bars have available.

Why anyone would use one of the normal crappy rooms there, I don't know.

You won't find many such options in Rio. Most so called terapias are straight-up bordellos. There are a couple of massage joints, but they offer manual release only. I recommend Alice in Tijuca. Best real estate is near av glauco gil, which is where paris cafe is, (glauco gil and av das americas). This is easy walking and hiking to praia abrico and other praias like praiahna. The cultural king of Brazil, the best and most famous jiu jitsu family and the cultural prince of Brazil, a rapper who lives in a surfer apartment, live in recreio. This is where the richest and most influential brasilians live. I like the restaurant casuarino. The beach at Pontal is best for open water swimming because of the protected cove behind the peninsula / island, pontal. If you want to go on a terma run or a prive run in Recreio, PM me. Vagabundo hates this time of year, but after carnival on about 18 Feb., things will get easier for gringos to find longer term housing on better terms.

I used to live in Recreio. It's pretty chill but there is a usually one or two quiosques on the beach that are rockin' - one specifically around posto 11. I used to live in Recreio. It's pretty chill but there is a usually one or two quiosques on the beach that are rockin' - one specifically around posto 11. There are also quite a few garotas working Lúcio Costa between postos 9 and 11. Interestingly I never did try Paris Club as I was in a pretty tight relationship at the time. I highly recommend Recreio if you want to hang out and chill. There's decent Airbnb options and a few hotels along the beach.

Overslept and didn't make it to Copa Sala 401. Did a tourist attraction and went to 4 x4. Didn't see girls I liked first 10 minutes but bangable girls came thru later. The girl I wanted was sitting across from me for 30 minutes. Didn't realize it cause of the bad lighting. She came over white blonde type and up close I knew she was the one. Google translate let's you download languages. Just go to your profile (the head up in right corner) and choose Downloaded Languages. Then pick Portuguese and it will download it. No more Wi-Fi issues. On a related note Google Maps also will navigate you to your destination as long as you put it in and hit start while on Wi-Fi. Just don't shut it down or anything or you will be toast halfway there.

P.S. These are tips from when I was in your Wi-Fi only shoes. Strongly recommend if you are from US get Google Fi at 70/ month and you have full cell service and unlimited data in 220 countries. I just consider this a cost of doing business w the ladies.

No. Mosaico is not a bar like the other bars in VM, it is a Tier 2 (Tier 1 to some) terma that just happens to be in the same area. It has better looking girls at double the price of VM girls. However, even at Mosaico, only 10%-20% of the girls are fuckable, for me. The last time I went, there were about 15-20 girls on a Sunday night around midnight, and there were only 1 or 2 I could fuck. This ratio is pretty constant at the other termas also, for me, with other posters also recently lamenting the decline in quality of girls in RIO nowadays. As an example, some years ago I sessioned at VM fairly often with pretty girls (bringing my own sheet) and had a good time but I don't see me doing that anymore.

VM is not convenient to Copa also. Usually it's late night action and some guys like to be in bed by 11.

Excuse the newbie question but is VM worth the visit? I've never gone before due to perceived safety issues.

Safety may not be an issue, especially if you have a wingman. It could be worth it to collect numbers and session with a girl there at another location with sheets that have actually been washed.
