So I was 3 nights in BKK before going to Phuket and then 1 night before coming back home. Probably easier to grab a taxi from your hotel rather than trying to get back to Don Muong and catch one from there. If there's a conference, hopefully taxis will be waiting around. Getting back, especially late at night, might be slightly problematic, no return fare. But, TIT, so a bit of extra should get you there. Last year, had to take a ride to the Thai Airways office out near the airport and it was around 300 baht and that was morning rush hours. Back in the day, I'd tell the driver "expressway" and I'd pay the tolls, but depending on the time, maybe not that much of an issue.

It does seem that the BTS Red Line goes to the airport (but then, you'd have to get to the airport), with a change to other lines to get to Nana or Asoke (Cowboy), and it does stop at midnight. NO personal experience, just google.

There is the Grab app, ride hailing, but I've never used.

Sure there is some marginal prospects out there, but I'd suggest hitting the bright lights.

If you haven't been, I'd definitely hit Sakura Akasuri up on Soi 55, short walk from Thong Lo BTS station (also Tulip). I recommend Vasu on the corner of Suk and Soi 7/1. Or you could queue up for half an hour with the Chinese tourists at Super Rich in Asoke BTS station!
