Somehow running around looking for an exchange at that gives me 34.2 vis a vis 34.1 seems to be a waste of time. How much you going to lose on $1,000, $2?

I usually stay at the Hilton so it's super close to me. While walking I look at exchanges and yes while difference is small I look anyway just to see if my normal still has good rates. But no I don't shop for that little bit that some may do. However if exchange rate is good I will cash in some extra usd before leaving Bangkok Sometimes works and other times doesn't.

Well, yeah. That's why SuperRich is actually a pretty good answer. They aren't the absolute best rate in town, but they're always right up there near the top. Plus they're basically everywhere. No need to burn time running from exchange to exchange comparing rates. Just walk into most any upscale-ish mall (the street kisoks named 'SuperRich' are often fakes. Avoid.) and know you're getting a decent rate. Again not the absolute best rate, but you can be sure you're not getting clipped.

One thing if you have all day to experiment with BTS / MRT line changes, but when your time is limited, and you have things to do, and I use things in the most general of contexts, I'd go with a taxi. Returning, you might get a refusal, I'd try again, and if a third, then I'd up the ante a bit. I think while I was there last month, they raised the authorized meter rate. I always check that the meter gets turned on, but if push came to shove, I'd go flat rate as long as it was not OTT. You might ask at the hotel's desk what the rate should be, and to avoid the "Nana" taint, say you want to check out the new mega mall, Emsphere (Sukhumvit, between soi 22 and Emporium). Also, being paranoid, I might not take the hotel's designated taxi (kickbacks) unless it was strictly meter. I usually just flag a passing one on the street. The girls will know the ST hotels. There used to be a very decent one on soi 7/1 (Sukhumvit), Atlas Hotel, hourly rates, used by the Bier Garden (RIP) ladies, but haven't used it for a long time. Can't say if it's still a valid ST hotel. Not too far down the soi, left hand side. In the same soi, Annies, but ONLY the NAME moved from the Rajah hotel original Annies. Another Insanity vet here. Pre-covid days were just *different* !

So I was 3 nights in BKK before going to Phuket and then 1 night before coming back home.
