I think this notion that Jakarta will suddenly become a Bangkok is silly. 2023 saw 160 K visitor to Jakarta. In the same time over 20 M visited Bangkok. Jakarta is not on anyones tourist radar.

Coincidentally I saw a chart on Facebook this morning with tourist stats for this year. IIRC I think it was 23 million to Thailand, not to Bangkok itself. Yes a large portion likely to Bangkok though. I think it was 6 million to Indonesia and yes most of those likely to Bali. I agree no one goes to Jakarta. Place is a dump with terrible traffic and an extra 3.5 hour plane ride no one wants to take from Thailand.

The number of people who read this Jakarta thread aren't going to make a difference. Now if I were posting this on a Japan, Korea, or China board then yes that could easily destroy Jakarta. I like the 365k price take in Jakarta as much as anyone else.

I don't think girls are hurting and I don't necessarily think my experiences are the "norm" and everyone should expect that. Other members of our group had varying success rates with the BBFS. I generally have good success even in Thailand (like 75%) but not with girls as hot as the ones in Jakarta. I am also not cheap charlie. If a girl pleases me the way I want, I make sure she is happy. Can accept that line of reasoning and hopefully it plays out that way although an increase in bules is noticeable. What is hard is the one or two time visitors who suddenly become the go to authority here and constantly blab about the best places. Especially around BBFS. If there's ever a breakout of HIV or STI's you know who will get the blame and a big night of BB fun in Jakarta is one of life's great pleasures. That is worth preserving.

None of this detracts from your report, a quality read that will soon be buried amongst a lot of the burble that can go on here.

The negatives for Jakarta are real and will keep many away:

1. language barrier.

2. horrible traffic.

3. dreadful pollution.

4. as noted above, relatively inaccessible.

5. the venues are more or less 'underground', at least compared to Bangkok. It takes a little bit of work (not much) to find them.

I think Indonesia will remain a niche market for some time. And like you, Mr. OS and others, I hope it remains that way!

The less people that know the better, LOL.

Truth is, many mongers in our hobby knows about Jakarta. So there is really no secrets for mongers.

It's more about comfort zone and habits more than anything else.

For most mongers, if they are use to a place and are repeat regulars, they often have an establish routine and built up Rolodex of girls. So why spend money on something uncertain when they already know what to expect. Some mongers are lucky as they live somewhat closer to Asia in general and can get much cheaper airfares to explore more places. I'm from Canada and it's not only expensive as f**k to book a ticket but the sometimes 20+ hrs travel with transfers to some Asian destinations will also drive you crazy. So many will not risk it and just go with tried and true.

Also, many prefer Philippines over all others as no language barrier and also liquor is cheap (for the drinkers).

As for me, I'm more the adventurous fellow so I'll go anywhere as long as its relatively safe (and cheap). I've done my tour of duty in a few shank ghetto slums in my time, got ripped off many times, had fun many times, got chased out a few times by pimps and mamas, but always in the pursuit of the mongers life.
