Posts: 1923Add to that the language. I've always preferred Brasil over Colombia, but the long flight and the language make Colombia such a comparatively easy option. Now add in the need for a visa.

Posts: 557I acknowledge that you applied over Christmas and New Year's, but 3. 5 weeks. Almost a month, is nuts.

Posts: 557Similar to you, I've travelled a lot over the past 20+ years and I'd say that Medellin was under the radar pre 2014 or so. Picked up steam 2014-2018 and then the destination of choice 2018-2023. It's now become overrun with Passport Bros, Digital Nomads, and retired mongers to the extent that it's drawing heightened criminal activity, local scorn (due to gentrification / rising prices), and most importantly. Pussy inflation LOL. The last I saw they had 118 murders in recent years that they could tie to drugging. Makes one pause.

I am fairly confident that Rio will move up the ranks, but do acknowledge that the long flight, need for a visa (in April now? And higher cost overall (flight, lodging, chicas) will put off many.

But Medellin has lost a lot of its luster due to all of the scoping and scamming of gringos, all of which seems to have gotten far worse than in years before. Or so reports in the news (and here) would suggest.

Posts: 27I was in Rio for 4 days this past week and realized that too. Mostly tourists seems to be Latinos from other countries. Talking to an uber driver, as I can speak a little bit of portunhol, he told me that most tourists there these days are chilenos (as their economy seems to be doing quite well right now) and the majority of Europeans are from Germany. I remember back not long ago, before the pandemics maybe, Americans used to flood Rio. I can't tell what really happened. I believe this visa bullshit will keep them even more distant now.

Posts: 5250First off, it's not hot now, the temperature is way down.
I am not seeing any Americans or Europeans here. The tourists seem to be Spanish-speaking.
Tonight, I am going to the Casablanca bar. Wish me luck.

Posts: 18358I knew that in the middle of December, but those that have been undergoing the process are still being informative and telling others how it is panning out.

Posts: 1228This is beginning to sound like a huge clusterfuck if the Brazilian authorities can't get their act together and soon. April 10 is right around the corner. KKK. My guess is they will kick the ball down the road to October or something. But we will have to just wait and see. Good luck Anaggie. I am sure your trip will go off on schedule with or without the fucking visa.

Posts: 553Yup. And it will change status to in process and then eventually approved and then they are supposed to email you a pdf of the visa.

I know that. I am just updating my experience with the visa process like the others. Plus I will be traveling to Brazil more than once a year unlike some people on this board so I will still need to get my visa done and since I had ALREADY PAID for the application, I was wondering what they would do with it after Brazil changed the dates.
Would love to see you try to school my ass 🤣.

Posts: 18358Mine says recommended by VFS. Does that mean the company has given it the ok and sending it to the embassy for approval? I guess.
