I wouldn't assume that he can afford it. About every expat down I've come across is rich, and the more they drink, the richer they got. LOL.

It's amazing how these same debates keep recycling. It would seem most would rather take what they can use from them and move on. In my experience the hotter they are, the more attitude and restrictions. I can often get a read on that sitting at home working FB. There's of course exceptions but it takes work finding them.

Though few believe it, gems show up in the casas, and for a time that included a lot of Venezuelanas. It will often take some time walking to different spots, but they show up. I was slow to over advertise this, but am now more about Costa Rica at my age, as all is more easily accessible and laid back. The local food is also much better.

Anyone here actually meet any ladies in Medellin this year?

That's been a blessing. I spent a good bit starting from 2003 when I first discovered Costa Rica, and what were some of the best years of Medellin, 2016 to 2019. In retrospect I don't regret it. These are experiences that relatively few ever have.

I know people who worked as teachers or engineers for state or local governments. They never lost their savings through medical emergencies because one of the trade-offs for working for a state or local government is a secure pension and a top notch medical plan. In fact, it is that very thing that attracts high quality employees who have children or spouses with medical needs.

But lets not digress. You worked as a state employee with an advanced degree and you retired as a man of modest means? What kind of chump are you? Did you ever take a class in finance or investing? Putting aside a pension and social security, you could, without a thought, have amassed a small fortune by allocating a small amount of your salary to the 457 (B) plan your governmental entity offered. (State and Local government version of a 401 (K)).

What happened? Did you drink it all away? Did you blow all of it on hookers? Or was it the gambling? How did you become a loser Paulie?

You were born under a lucky star. You grew up and worked in the US! Unless you were a complete dud (which seems to be the case) you could parlay even a semblance of an education, decent work ethic or any skill at all into a sizeable fortune. Just a small amount of investing over a long career even in State or Local government would have made you very well off if not wealthy by retirement age. Even a janitor working at the S&L government level with 4 kids could probably have managed to retire "well off".

Tell me Paulie? How did you blow a lay-up? What are your excuses?
Notice that this portion of my post was completely ignored in his response.

Having painted yourself in a corner with your misquotes of me linked again here below, that's about all you can do since the deleted PMs angle went so poorly. Or maybe you haven't run across the anonymous "good source" lately that told you that I stay in hostels.
So folks, if you say you are of modest / average means, according to Twitainy, you by default also say that you have no advanced education, that you work for near minimum wage, perform menial labor, and have no assets. All readily accessible statistics, as to average incomes, average savings at certain stages in life, and educational attainments loudly refute this, while he sits beside his wall fan in his rented, 3rd World apartment where he can't walk at night telling others how to make a "great fortune" he doesn't have.

    I rest my case.

No, you don't know anything about grapes or women. Not only are you a fox who has not tasted the grapes, you are conferring with other foxes like Gabacho who have not tasted the grapes and you and your geniuses have all concluded they are sour which makes your stupidity even worse.

If I learned a way to get the grapes and they were the sweetest ones ever, you foxes would make up another story about why it could not be true. Like I said, you can't handle the truth, and that is what makes you a loser.

The Yew Ess educational system does a poor job of addressing financial literacy and many people who are well educated and have higher / advanced degrees don't know squat about investing, time value of money, tax planning, etc. Few college majors require even a basic finance course. I had the advantage of working next to a New York Jew when I was younger, who taught me that Jesus saves but Moses invests. Thank you for that, Yorkie.

Paulie may not know much about investing but he knows the real secret to financial success: inherit.
I think 403 (b) plans are for private non-profit employees and public school employees whereas 457 plans are for State and Local government employees.

    https://www.investopedia.com/article...comparison.asp

And BTW there are the normal contribution limits which are the same for 401 (K) participants, in 2024 you are limited to a 23,000 contribution with an additional 7,500 catch-up contribution if you are over 50.

    Elvis,

How do you know what the girls look like that I fuck? You say they are ugly. Yet you have never seen them.

I will let you take that up with him. But I disagree with you characterization of him. You have never met with him. I have. You have never seen the girls he goes with either. I have. I have see the girls he is going with here in Thailand and they are not ugly. So take your punk ass privileged self on down the street and confer with those who look like you in your private club where you compare notes on how much you are paying for your 10's. It is ok with me. I'm good..

It is you who cannot handle the truth. I am doing just fine. That is the truth that you cannot handle. That is why you did not address anything I said in my post and instead quoted fairy tales because you had nothing original to say.

Anytime you would like to call me a loser to my face. You let me know. I am a world traveler. Let me know when you get your next work release pass from sex prison. We can meet. I want see if you talk tough in person or if you are just another ISG keyboard warrior.

How do you know all the 10's in the world are "starfishes"? Do you have a black book of 10's? And how do you know a 10 would not take care of you? And how do you know they are more expensive? You are the fox in this Aesop's fable:

A Fox one day spied a beautiful bunch of ripe grapes hanging from a vine trained along the branches of a tree. The grapes seemed ready to burst with juice, and the Fox's mouth watered as he gazed longingly at them.

The bunch hung from a high branch, and the Fox had to jump for it. The first time he jumped he missed it by a long way. So he walked off a short distance and took a running leap at it, only to fall short once more. Again and again he tried, but in vain.

Now he sat down and looked at the grapes in disgust.

"What a fool I am," he said. "Here I am wearing myself out to get a bunch of sour grapes that are not worth gaping for. ".

And off he walked very, very scornfully.

And then there was the lesson: There are many who pretend to despise and belittle that which is beyond their reach.

I think a better lesson is what they perceive is beyond their reach. A smarter fox would have gotten the fucking grapes.

    Successful investing per Yorkie:

    1) The road to wealth is paved with stocks.

    2) Don't worry too much about taxes; just make money because the tax rate is never 100%.

    3) Never let your wife see your retirement statements.

Yorkie passed away on Monday at the age of 93, surrounded by friends, relatives, and a shit load of DRIP plans. In his memory, I remind you of his pearls of wisdom, which ranged far from investing to such topics as:

    1) Don't wait for overtime to come to you; go out there and create it yourself.

    2) Never hire a lawyer who's not a Jew because the other guy's will be.

    3) Always have both a dog and a cat because if you're really broke, you can jack off the dog to feed the cat.

    Rest in peace, Yorkster!

Actually, Villainy, the government equivalent of a 401 (k) is a 403 (b). 457's are supplemental plans over and above the limits for 403 plans. You can actually put 100% of your salary in a 457 and I did this one year while working two jobs at once.

But now that you mention it, there are a lot of tricky things to circumvent when renting an apartment and I'll write something about it in one of the other forums.
