I've always had a similar question. Everywhere we see blame on the Koreans and Japanese increasing the prices. Look at the type of girls the Koreans and Japanese generally go for. I've been to thailand a bit and ate mostly street food or at cheap cafes and mall food. But now I am trying to eat healthy. How easy is that to do? I'm wa ting more protein and less rice.

Easy. Search for "gai yang" (grilled chicken) in google maps for something delicious, and then use Grab to get to the nearest one, or even order to your room via grab if you prefer that.

Apart from that, I second EihTooms's salad recommendation. Myself I much prefer the Get Fresh chain to Salad factory (eaten at the latter once or twice, and more times than I remember at the former. Get their card if you're staying for a while for an effective 10% discount). There's also a very good salad shop a 20 minute walk down Soi 21, roughly opposite of the SWU university, near Tim Horton's, though the name escapes me at the moment. Couple either of them with some fish or meat.

In addition to that, the various food courts at the shopping malls. A zillion choices for cheap meat and vegetables. Pick and choose. Even the one at the sub-top floor of Terminal 21 is fine, if you get there at a time when it's not overflowing with noisy Chinese, though you will have a much better experience at the food hall at the bottom floor of Emquartier (a bit more expensive also however).

Last resort is just buy some readymade fish or chicken at the supermarket (e. G. , Tops) and eat it in your room if you can stand the smell, but it's been laying there the whole day and while I've never gotten sick from it, it doesn't taste particularly good either.

Comparing Soi 6 today with 10-15 years ago makes no sense. It's a totally different monster now.

These guys love to blow huge amounts on these girls, this is why every bar owner with half a brain has supplied their bars with shot "towers" that can hold up to 60 drinks. As I have used these sideline websites, I can tell you this. If you think it's so easy for a foreigner, especially one on vacation who does not speak any Thai, has a big dick, or comes from a background that its unfairly stereo typed as a bad customer for Thai working girls, you are sadly mistaken that foreigners should have an easy time at paying the same as locals do. I thought I add some content here about prices. It was not long ago that 1000 baht was the norm on soi 6. Lets take 2017 and look at the thai CPI.

In 2017 January it was 98.15. In January 2024 its is 106.98. 107/98= 1. 09. So in generall almost a 10% price increase. In the same time the prices on soi 6 has increased with 100 %. But that is for tourists. Not for locals. It used to be cheaper in Pattaya but then they got more and more into the thing of having higher prices for tourists. So don't give me any of this bullshit about "don't expect to pay same as locals blah blah blah".

I was pinged on Messenger by a "lady" who is on Facebook normally in tiny bikinis. When I say "pinged", it was obviously a Farang catfishing me. She's got multiple FB accounts, so no idea if the one contacting me was the official account or not, although the account was posting photos of her regularly. There is no pure free market economy. Bars and girls can freely toggle prices how they see fit, caring less about what some Western economist said how things "should" work. We have been over time and time again how in non-Western countires they raise the price when business is slow in order to make the money from the few customers that they would ordinarily be making when there are more customers.

First about the Go Go bars on walking street, let's compare them to Horizon at the Hilton.Their cost of doing business is much higher too, rent and so on, location also plays a big part in that , as well. Then Soi 6, whoever said that area is supposed to be cheaper. I compare it to Sizzler. Then the gents clubs and beer bars, I compare them to let's say Kungs or the Hungry Hippo. You see, there are different levels of bar businesses with different prices. The flaw in your logic really shows when you think of covid. Yes, you forgot about that right. Demand went down, prices went down and you would get more value and service for your Baht. Yes, there are little region specific exceptions, but at the end of the day, demand goes down, prices go down. Demand goes up, prices go up. The same goes for low season compared to high season. Just not to the same extreme as what it was during covid, but alas, it's still the same. During low season, I have also lived in Pattaya. I would get lower prices and better service and well.
