I think that is more a Medellin thing and not a Colombian thing. My ex-girlfriend from Valledupar went to Medellin to find work and after 1 month she was out of that place. Even as a Colombian, that Medellin culture was too much for her. I never took to Medellin the way I have taken to other Colombian cities. I have never had any problem with the chicks I have dealt with over the years cheating or already having a boyfriend or having dealt with foreigners before. If you want a hooker, go to Medellin. If you want a normal Colombian woman for a traditional relationship, then go to other cities. But as has been said before, you will be at a disadvantage if you do not speak Spanish, especially in this social media attention-seeking age.

What I have seen is that a lot of these "relationships" don't last not because of language or culture differences. But because the relationship is made up of desperation on both ends.

Oh one side, you have a paisa that is dirt poor. She is looking for someone to support her and her kid (s). She is young and like many of the girls, above average in looks and great in bed.

She is willing to "sacrifice" herself to an old foreigner that under normal circumstances she would not give the time of day to.

On the foreigner side, you often have an old out of shape, desperate for attention foreigner that feels like he is Rockefeller in Medellin because of the low cost of living and price of pussy.

It just doesn't last as there is no true love, strictly a monetary and a companion need between 2 people.

I'm planning on staying on a different spot on my next visit to Medellin. Any of you have stayed at one of these hotels and their guest policy? I would appreciate any info and I will definitely return the favor to make a report after the trip.

The way I've heard this explained is that you're just making her more attractive to find a guy that's richer / better looking or just higher status than you. I'd NEVER sink that much money into any woman, let alone a woman who is clearly p4 p.

The same reason I will never buy a phone for a chick just for her to meet and talk to other guys with. The only thing I am sinking into a woman is this dick. I've seen tons of men with the same idea to find a wife in Colombia only to leave only to leave a year later in complete distress. I would say that Colombia especially Medellin is probably the worst place to find a wife.

I won't get into too many details and just get straight to the point. So what started as just me and my girlfriend has now expanded into my girlfriend and some of her friends and her sisters friends and now I'm up to about 9 people and we all need a place to meet for a group session. I'm having a very difficult time finding a place for this encounter to occur. My girlfriends apartment is too small for such a thing to occur so it would need to be elsewhere. Does anyone have any good ideas here? I'm stuck. I don't see a hotel that would allow so many visitors.

I've had no issues at the Haven hotel. The penthouse is for 8 guests but I don't see an issue having the ninth if the come separately but you may have a 100 k fee as that goes over the free guest count (number of rooms x 2).

There are a couple airbnbs I've used around poblado with no issues. None of these options are cheap tho.

You lost me until you mentioned the language barrier. I thought you were writing about Colombians based on living here long term. It made no sense and then I realized you were making an observation about foreigners. That observation more than makes sense, it is dead obvious even allowing our group's strong disinclination toward marriage in general. Colombians and other latinos are in fact socially conservative, family oriented and favor long term primary relationships. This of course excludes the subculture of urban prepagos and their dodgy social circles that we rub elbows with. You definitely don't want to marry into any of that. Keep in mind we frequent a subculture. It's very different from the Colombians I worked with who know only enough about them to avoid them like the plague. For example, years ago Parque Lleras was a place to take the family for Sunday night dinner. You all know the rest.

Out of all the Latin American countries I've been to Colombians, especially Paisas are the biggest liars I've ever met. And it's due to the legacy of Pablo Escobar. Even decades after his death, he's left a deep cultural imprint of criminality. The locals call it "cultura traqueta." Women here, although many have been taken on to more lavish trips by the age of 22 than you will ever go to, have never lived in another country. They don't know that cheating on their boyfriend is as bad as it is because it's so normalized in their culture. I've slept with so many Colombian women that have boyfriends who they really loved and they didn't feel guilty.

Men who come to this country looking for wives are men who really don't understand the culture at all. Once these women have had a taste of the fast money of selling their bodies, a guy who wants her to stay home and cook will sound like a horrible proposition. Most Paisas don't want to leave the country, don't want to be your husband because marriage isn't even a strong institution in the culture and they don't want to be married to a foreigner unless they're 35+ and they've had a lot of financial hardship in their life. They just want your money and they want to party in Medellin. They will lie, cheat, and steal in order to do that.

I see the issue of finding a life partner in Colombia as an individual thing. What applies to one gent will not necessarily apply to another. Nevertheless, my experience in Colombia is that there are many options among non pros but you need to be able to speak Spanish.

Well stated and succinct. Between the nature of this forum and the dynamic of MDE, it comes as NO surprise you get a lot of negative responses to it here.

I have seen many great relationships occur between Colombiana and foreigners. However, they all have been with non-Paisas. Those with Paisas (in MDE or elsewhere) have ended badly. Which only reinforces my stereotype of Paisas.

AirBnb in the countryside if you can get outside the city, especially if it is for a weekend. As you probably know, Colombians often vacation with the whole family, so there are a LOT of options at all sorts of price levels and features. Finding anything like that in the city is difficult, as you have already found out.

Since 1990 I have been going to Colombia looking. Have tried to get married twice. First cunning one from Medellin got pregnant with a Colombian guy before her spousal visa got approved, so got an annulment. Second one from Cali poked me in the eye with her fingers and I got rid of her, now on FB I see she is in Texas with some other husband who probably likes to be attacked.

In the 1990's there were alot of matrimonial agencies, so the girls could get away from the FARC, I went to several in Cali and Medellin. Only women from the agencies were opportunists, probably I was also. If you can find a cute retard you might have a chance.

It happens in other cities. I'm aware of two recent incidents in Cali. But it's more common in MDE because an awful lot of foreigners (many of whom are really naive) go to MDE these days.

Maybe it is a thing like you see people with covers on their luggage. They want a protector for the thing that is protecting their belongings. In his case he wants somewhere to keep the money that his pocket is going to keep. Only keeping it directly in the pocket is not good enough. Got to have that bulge to make it easier on the thieves.

My buddy was telling me about a guy he knows that had $3500 stolen out of his fanny pack when he was on the bus in Thailand. Wearing one of those things is advertising to thieves that here is where all my valuable stuff is.
