I'm curious, why carry your wallet when out and about? I never carry mine. There's nothing in I'll need, except cash and maybe an ATM card, which I carry in a money clip / card holder. And a few hundred baht in another pocket. One less thing to worry about, especially when I'm drinking.

I was pretty drunk, walking on Sukhumvit, from Soi Cowboy to Miami Hotel (Soi 13). It probably was obvious that I was drunk.

All of a sudden, 3 boys surrounded me. I turned halfway around to see one or two behind me. One boy waved a handkerchief behind me around my mid-section (probably to hide the pick). I felt something in my back pocket. That's where I keep my main money (just 1 K bills), but luckily I always keep it buttoned up.

I continued to walk a few steps, and then I realized they probably tried to pick me. I walked back and stared at them. They were on the ground. After they saw me staring at them, they immediately got up and ran away fast.

Luckily they didn't take my wallet and smart phone that were in my front pockets. You can't see it bulge out when I'm walking. Wondering If I would have noticed if they tried. I reacted slowly because I was drunk, and they weren't ladyboys.

Be careful out there, especially if you're drunk.

I'll be staying outside of Patong but can access it to avail myself of its goodies.

I just finished an 8 night stay in the Sala Daeng area of Si Lom, within walking distance of the Patpong night market and erotic bar area. Must admit that my internet research was a bit lacking, as I was totally unprepared for the abundance of ladyboy dance clubs and LGBTQ bars near the market. I'm not homophobic, but I was a bit unnerved by the "attention" I received while transiting the local streets at night.

True about Silom area, I never knew it was such LGBTQ-friendly area. I'm absolutely not against that at all (altho I'm 1000% straight) but the only thing I'the say is that for tourists like us the hotels are typically more expensive than what you can get elsewhere. Mainly because this is the business district with many office towers just further up the road and you can see at lunchtime how many suited workers are out and about. At nighttime it is a little in-your-face when you walk around and get a bit of attention but it's fine. Agree about Jakarta, I've been visiting there every 2 months recently & it's even more addictive than mongering in Bkk.
