Agreed that Japan is very easy to travel. Travel over there two times with almost zero of my Japanese and still have a great time. The distance to your hotel doesn't matter at all. You just need to know if your hotel allows guests. It will be obvious when you check in and try to go to your room. Some hotels require a room key to operate the elevator, after tapping an IC spot on the elevator. Others don't and you can freely use them. I will have an up coming trip to SEA next summer. Planned to stopover in Tokyo for 5 days and travel in Japan a week after.

6) For sightseeing, you might expect 500-1000 for temple admission, or 500-2500 for a typical restaurant for a solid meal. I typically pay under 500 yen for a simple but delicious breakfast. Pronto will give you fantastic coffee as part of a set. 500 is $3.20.
