I'm not much of a writer, fair warning, and I have never made a post before today, but Traveler X was so helpful on my trip with his postings (as several other members also were) that I feel compelled to make a report so that the information I collected may possibly help another. A little backstory about me and my trip (if it matters): I spent around a week to a week and a half in Tokyo, I'm still fairly young, 20's to 30's, Caucasian, and while I don't possess an extremely muscular body I'm not fat and if not obvious by my username, from the States, so the conversion rate was extremely beneficial as I am still fairly price sensitive (though that may have gone out the window in Tokyo if I'm honest). Finally, my Japanese is almost non-existent, I can speak some basic words but ask me to string together a sentence or two and my brain just shuts-down.

Luxe.

Let me just start with this, Traveler X is an amazing dude and deserves all the praise. This place was one of the two high points for me in Japan as a whole and I went almost every night I was in Tokyo, I therefore highly recommend all visitors at least giving it a try at least once on their visit. When walking to the shop, you of course come upon the infamous Nigerians, who are admittedly annoying as all get out (though, as reported by others, were never physically aggressive, at least to me, just persistent). For those who want to deal with them as little as possible (which should be everyone to be honest), I found visibly shaking my head as they started to make eye contact with me and start moving towards me was generally enough encouragement for them to stop (though a few still continued but I just ignored them). Once you actually get to Luxe, you're greeted by a guy downstairs who was usually the owner who was always a super cool dude. He will send you up the elevator to the fourth-floor I believe, and that is where you will pay for your first 45 minutes. Paying, I found, was the only part of Luxe that was generally shrouded in obscurity. I admittedly (and to my shame, please don't be mad at me Traveler X) never used the bat-station thing. It just felt a little off-putting to use a third-party to get into Luxe, but looking back, I most likely should have. The price for the first 45 minutes varied widely between 7000 and 12000 Yen. They say after your first night, which they charged me 10,000 Yen for, that the cost is 12,000; however, I was sometimes able to talk it a little lower though your results may vary. Regardless this was the only negative to my time in Luxe and honestly it probably could have been circumvented had I just used the bat-station. Once you get inside, however, it's a virtual cornucopia of good times, the girls of course ask you for drinks typically always (not that I really cared all to much), and many want you to sponsor them which I always told them I would next time which I never did though had I had a longer trip I may have. I always went to Luxe at the end of my night so I instead used the 45 minute opportunity to get a really good buzz drinking as much beer (which is included in the cost of admission) as I could, talking to cute Japanese girls and playing with their boobs, which is money well spent if you ask me. The only warning I would give here is to be responsible with how much you drink. It is of course unlimited with your time, but remember to stay respectful, and, most importantly, you will likely need to walk through the Nigerians to get home (at least I always did as I had to take the subway to get home). I could well imagine them taking advantage if you are too drunk.

This was actually my favorite of the two agencies I visited, the other being the more famous THC and was actually my favorite, though there are some caveats. For both the girls I got at the agency, I found to be quite cute and rather friendly; however, the photos they used were certainly more edited than THC. The other biggest difference here between TAE and THC as has been noted before is that at TAE the girls meet you in the room while at THC the girl meets you outside the agency and you walk to the hotel together. I didn't use any soaplands in Tokyo though I did in Sapporo. Honestly, this was my second biggest regret. Soaplands are an amazing experience by themselves and again while I cannot speak to any in Tokyo, if they are at all similar to the one I used in Sapporo you really owe it to yourself to give it a try. There is nothing quite like it and honestly I would probably choose this option over the the escort agencies if I could redo my trip (though the agencies do offer different advantages to what soaplands offer, like better looking girls, more choice on which girl you can get and better conversations with the girls).

I just want to again express my thanks to traveler X, reading through the forum for the last year or so gave me enough information to make my trip a really special one and a lot of that info came from him. This post is to help everyone in a similar situation, no matter where you're from and no matter what language you speak. Everyone who loves Japanese women is a brother here. The following is the advice I would have given to myself 20 years ago, assuming I had at least been to Japan 1 time before OR traveled other countries a few times. In the future if someone asks this question again, I will just point to this post and any variation you will just have to figure out yourself. My goal is not to plan each person's trip, just show an example of the process.

So your request is quite a long-shot for different reasons, 10 hours works but 9 hours doesn't leave room to enjoy things like food. Even though I'm crazy about Japan, I can have fun in the US but I can't have the best Japanese food and casual shopping except in Japan. So if I had 9 hours in Japan I'd just go have a nice meal, shop around the airport which is quite nice, get a souvenir, probably meet and chat with strangers I run into by chance, then have another great meal, and board my flight. Those are special things I can enjoy in Japan. It's a relaxing day and I'll probably chat with a few people like me and share stories. Randomly stumble into future pussy by meeting a girl and promising to meet next time. But a younger me might want action and adventure now.

If you've never been to Japan before, the problem is familiarity. I can make it to anywhere in Tokyo or Yokohama and back to my flight easy. But first timers, they are much slower at every step. So I will give you the easiest plan. I assume you have been to Japan at least once or traveled several other countries. Let's say you speak English but no Japanese. Note that it is super lucky that your layover starts around 8am in the morning, if it was overnight layover I don't see the point nothing in this guide will work. Lastly, I will simulate this using Kira Kira soapland even though there are many other choices. FYI it is 1 hour 30 minutes for a Limousine bus from Narita to Yokohama station (it is 1 hour 10 minutes to reach Shinjuku), and you need to pass through immigration and customs as well as stow your luggage.

1) Before you land at Narita, check if your plane is on time. If it's late, reconsider. Also before you land the flight attendant hands out immigration and customs forms. Ask for one if you prefer, I like the old fashioned paper ones even though the trend is to do online forms with QR. So if you are like me, fill it out before you land. You need your passport and flight info. Make sure to stow your passport and valuables securely so you don't drop them.

2) Land at Narita, disembark your plane, walk to immigration. The lines/wait varies wildly. I have done it in 30 minutes, I have seen 90 minutes. Let's assume 60 minutes which is above average. You finally reach the front of the line and they gesture you forward. Show your passport, stand in front of machine to take photo and fingerprint. If all is in order, less than 60 seconds. Or maybe they ask you a question or two or ask you to fix a mistake on the form. Then you go down the escalator to baggage claim. If it's been 60 minutes it's probably there, grab a cart if it's a lot of luggage (I know you are layover but this is for other people too). Go to one of the customs lines and show your passport and form. Once in a while they check your bags, most of the time you're good to go. You pass through.

3) There is a Mizuho currency exchange, use it. The rate is excellent in Japan (other countries are hit and miss). Convert what you need. I forgot the daily limit (per person) but it was maybe 300k yen (30 man en) which is $1900. You don't need that much, if you run out later you can use a credit card but soapland is best cash / evidence free. Alternatively, 5% of ATMs in Japan take a US bank card (every single 7-11 ATM will, as will some at Narita). Remember in Japan never to think 300k, it's 30 man en (man = 10k). Otherwise you confuse locals the same if someone said "ten hundred dollars". This is a very common confusion. Next, stow your luggage if any. There is JAL ABC. Btw for those who need luggage forwarding, it's incredibly cheap and reliable in Japan to send a luggage to your hotel. It will 100% arrive and nobody will steal anything from it, it's Japan.

Let's suppose we are 8:00am + 90 minutes here, so 9:30am.

4) Next buy a ticket for the next limousine bus from Narita to Yokohama station. Go to an information booth and ask the lady there in English "Excuse me, how do I buy a ticket for the limousine bus from Narita to Yokohama station" (the destination bus terminal is called YCAT). She will use her gloved hand to show you where and explain how. Give her a wink and ask if all Japanese women are this cute before turning to go on your way. Wherever the ticket booth is, you can ask them again for help, they deal with travelers all the time. The bus is direct, fast, reliable, reasonably priced, AC, free wifi. After having a ticket, note which # is the spot you should stand and wait. You go outside to fresh air and see a bunch of numbered stands. Go there. There's a guy in uniform there, show him your ticket and he will make sure you went to the right stand or point to you the right one. If you have suitcases, tell him how many and he will give you a receipt for it. Now if your bus ticket says 10:00am it will probably arrive at 9:58am and it will fucking depart at exactly 10:00am - the staff rush to put every suit case on, it takes 2 minutes. You board the bus and show your ticket. Look out the window at lots of cool stuff on your way to Yokohama. Buses depart often as long as it's normal hours like now, especially to major destinations like Yokohama YCAT. 4000 yen ($25). This is just my example, go wherever you like.

Let's suppose we board the bus at 9:50am and reach Yokohama YCAT 11:20am. If you are new, you probably board 10:00am or later. If you are me, you boarded 9:40am even after taking a moment to flirt with the information lady.

Skip this paragraph if you trust me to take the limousine bus instead of train: I do not recommend the train to or from Narita/Haneda airports. Let's illustrate why. If you want to do the train to Yokohama, google says walk 6 minutes to Narita Terminal 2-3 station board the Skyliner. 41 minutes with 2 stops to Keisei Ueno. You walk 7 minutes to Ueno a major hub. If you wanted Shinjuku instead, you'd have gotten off the previous stop at Nippori Station and walked 3 minutes to the JR Nippori station next to it, then take the Yamanote line 10 stops. But instead you board the Utsunomiya line to Yokohama, 26 minutes and 4 stops. Total cost 4370 yen or $28, 1 hour 31 minutes if you didn't miss a connection (you must be a veteran to do this). At least you missed rush hour, but I cannot recommend this way to a beginner. On the Limousine bus you can take a fucking nap, probably nobody is next to you. The train route you keep getting up and walking and changing trains and during the train ride commuters get on and off with an exhausted look. The train repeatedly jerks to accelerate or decelerate on the last parts. There is also the Narita express but google knows it takes longer (but is nicer). Compared to limousine bus the train is more expensive, takes longer, uncomfortable. Don't.

I find it useful to do international roaming, my carrier offers flat rate $12/day and I would use it. Make sure you sign up for a plan rather than "no plan roaming" which can be expensive if you use a lot of data. My carrier will text me that I've started international roaming and what the rate is. Or if you don't want this, stay in airplane mode.

At Kira Kira it is 31,000 yen for 70 minutes. I speak fluent Japanese and can enter most shops, yet this is still where I would go if I had only one chance. 5) You arrive Yokohama YCAT. There is a Starbucks you can hang out at if you are ever waiting here. Instead look for signs pointing to the taxi stop nearby. Places like these have good signage. Or you can cheat and ask the YCAT ticket booth "I'm America. Where to do the taxi?" They will point the way, it's easy. Or maybe they point to the sign that says Taxi with an arrow, but that's rare in a polite country like Japan. You go there, and if you're lucky a taxi is already there. Since it's 11:30am now chances are good. Be patient, taxis are common since this is downtown Yokohama. A veteran would take the train to Hinodecho for 7 minutes (150 yen or 95 cents), but a beginner should do the last short bit by taxi for 11 minutes (Just guessing 1500 yen or $10) so they don't have to learn public transit on the spot.

Now here you want Kira Kira on google maps to be ready on your phone. The taxi shows up, if you have luggage he will toss it in the trunk (I know this is not you but useful to other beginners). Then like magic the rear left door will swing open on its own mechanically. Step inside, it's safe. Tell the taxi driver either: a) It's near Hinodecho station, it's Kira Kira soapland. b) Go to Hinodecho station c) Go to Hinodecho station and when you're 95% of the way use your phone and say drop me off here 1 block before the station. Don't worry what the taxi guy will think, to him it's just obvious that he'd want to do the same thing if he had your money. This stuff is normal in Japan. If you are me, the time is now 11:40am and he dropped you off 1 block before Hinodecho. It is a 3 minute walk to Kira Kira but if it's your first time maybe you walk past it twice before bravely entering.

6) The shopkeeper sees you're a foreigner (regardless of your race) and asks Yoyaku? meaning if you have a reservation to which you say "arimasen" which means no. Of course if you only speak English, you can either wait for him to try English or say "No reservation". They are 100% foreigner friendly for many years. Then if it's your first time, then what country and your name (pick any name), then how long you want (70 minutes), then you pick your girl. My first time is described in a previous link, I'll link it again here. For first-time visiting the shop you sign a document saying you wont' hurt the girls etc.. super common sense stuff. It is also just good in itself, Sakuragicho has a ton of amazing food. Maybe Ichiran if it's a weekend without a line. Right next to the station there is a Paul's bakery where you can get a fantastic panini. It's in Colette Mare, and at the bottom floor is a fantastic supermarket. Go up and down that building, lots of great shopping. Or if you are super confident on time, go top two floors for a sit down meal like a baller. Every restaurant has clear samples of what food there are, for dumb hungry foreigners like us. Think about the hour bang you just had or journal or how you're going to come back to this country asap. For a light lunch, there is a Tokyo soup stock attached to Sakuragicho station. In this mall is Anderson bakery and another cafe and lots of snacks, food, souveniers for your alibi too. Do not go to Burger King, this is Japan. If you have extra extra time go to the outside of Collete Mare for the fruit parlor, it is just ridiculous. Or see that very tall tower called Landmark tower and realize that Collete Mare is a quaint tiny shop and the Landmark area is where everything's at. Whatever, the pressure is off and I assume you can manage your time like an adult.

From Sakuragicho station it's 1 stop to Yokohama station. Or if you wandered to Landmark and Minato Mirao, take the Minato Mirai subway to Yokohama station. You can ask the station guys for help, or if you don't mind your pride ask any random Japanese person and they will help you. It's okay, you'd do the same in your home country too right?

If you see that you have extra time at Yokohama station, walk to Sogo department store. Be amazed at how much better Japan is than your country. Then be on your way again.

Just for the sake of illustration, let's say you were super cautious and only did a 30 minute lunch, some browsing, grabbed 1 souvenier, and took a train to Yokohama station. The time is now 2pm aka 14:00. If it were me, that's my limit but others could push 15-45 minutes more here assuming a 15 minute wait for the bus. Of course if your layover was 9am instead of 8am you have to adjust and maybe do a quick lunch. I think for Narita you want to arrive 90 minutes before but even 60 minutes would cut it but just don't aim for that.

At this point, you find the Yokohama YCAT bus terminal which is next to Yokohama station. You buy a ticket from the guy that passive-aggressive pointed at the Taxi sign earlier this morning. Don't mind him, you're never going to see him again now. Make sure you choose the right terminal. If you have 10 extra minutes, you can grab something from the Starbucks, the convenience store, or a vending machine. Give a wink to the Starbucks girl saying Japan is full of fun shops. Then you board your bus as before. You log in to the bus wifi, and come onto ISG and start writing your post. Hopefully about your balls deep adventure for 70 minutes, but whatever you got just say it.

Let's say it was a 10 minute wait for the bus, so you arrive at Narita 3:40pm. There's some walking, maybe use the bathroom, etc.. You'll have time both before and after passing security for your flight.

Good to see you. Japan has very cold winters and very hot summers, so the hotter the time the more night time it's going to be is my guess. I set up a blog with list of useful links and topics, some my posts some others. If you want "something really different" I recommend going to Manzoku and just telling them that. I've used them 20 years they will get you the best price and take you there. That's all they do and what the locals use, they are solid. They will straight up call each shop you want and ask if you can go in or not. The staff is on his cell and in seconds he says "We have one Japanese speaking foreigner here, can we introduce him?" Everything by the book, they are not affiliated in any way with the shops they simply get paid a referral. You literally get a cheaper rate through them. They can answer questions about every shop, about 50+ options. They knew I could speak Japanese so 80% of shops were a yes by default but the staff pointed out the posters for the few shops I couldn't get into. Everything they told me checked out and was accurate, every time. The 20% that won't let me in aren't special, it's just the shop owner's own policy. Every shop Manzoku will refer to is legit, they rely on repeat customers. That's why they're in business for decades, it is a physical shop.

Other people know a lot more about tachinbo there. I've talked to some thai women randomly in Yokohama but it's not my thing however it's clearly legit. The Okubo park ones many are Japanese but JPLove reports there are also many foreigner options too. You may know the streetwalkers in TJ well the pro is it is extremely safe here (except for the touts and scam bars) the con is the language barrier.

2. One was nice lady in Yokohama. I don't remember the other one. Again, my general rule of thumb here is that if the store only gives me one girl to choose from, I walk out. You're gambling on that one girl being good and the odds are against you. She's probably older and not busy compared to the other girls, and this is why she is being offered up to foreigners.

3. Kabukicho is the best place is the country for tachinbo (street girls). The place is like host club paradise for the girls. And where there are hosts, there are working girls. You can usually spot the working girls based on their attire, typically short skirt and high heels. But also look at what they're doing. If a girl is just standing on the side of the street on her phone for a long time, she's probably working, waiting for a customer. You can also just go up to a girl and ask if she's playing. This is done all the time in kabukicho. You will see local guys just walk up and proposition hot young girls in the area. It normal here and girls will not get offended generally speaking. 4. I stayed at the granbell hotel and I was bringing girls back every night. They don't give a shit. Just make sure you register for two guests. Or simply use the side entrance, as I did. I would not recommend getting a love hotel in the area, unless you have to. They usually have crappy rooms that stink of cigarettes. And some love hotels will try to charge you extra if you bring multiple girls back. A regular hotel in Shinjuku is much better, just make sure it's inside Kabukicho, as the girls won't be willing to walk more than 10-15 minutes.

I don't recommend getting a girl's LINE and meeting them out of the club (pros and cons), but sometimes you can. The pro is it's legal and you can negotiate what you want. Thailand is cheap. You can get a 24-hour girlfriend days and weeks if you want. Each country has it's strong point. Japan's strong points are it's fun besides the RLD, cheap compared to the US, extremely safe, service is good, and as far as Japanese-run shops go the level of service averages very high. I do recommend making it out to Yokohama Kira Kira if you have extra time, that is what good service looks like. Then you can decide maybe it's your thing and look for the more expensive shops that have younger and better girls. The bad touts are the guys in Kabukicho, mostly black Africans but also Japanese / other who will approach you and try to get you to follow them someplace else..following them might lead to you being drugged and ripped off even more badly. The Japanese touts, like I wrote in my last post, might whisper "Psst, Japanese girls, sex. " Going with them might lead to good or bad outcomes as well.

A whole separate category of people who might approach you are 1) Chinese woman who call out to you on the street (more often on the edge of Kabukicho) offering "massagee" and 2) Chinese women who offer to lead you to some other location for sex. This can happen around Kabukicho, in Shibuya, in Gotanda, and maybe other places. I did both 1) and 2) on early trips to Japan and wasn't cheated or ripped off. It's still not advisable unless you are interested in cheaper sexual services and don't care if the provider is Chinese and also don't care if the facilities are very shabby.

As for the category of "good" touts, we are talking about employees of a particular establishment who will be standing directly in front of the place and might be soliciting for customers. These people could also be described as doormen most of the time. If you are not Japanese and / or don't speak Japanese, there's a good chance these people will ignore you or say "Japanese only" if you talk to them. But maybe not. An example a "good" tout would be the dude standing outside JanJan in Sugamo. He will wave and smile and usher you inside if you catch his eye. I think these types of dudes exist outside of shops all over Japan. One of these guys invited me into a soapland in Fukuoka when I was trying to find another place. The place ended up being not that good and I shouldn't have gone there, but I didn't get ripped off. I haven't been to Yoshiwara, but these types of dudes might sometimes be standing outside their shops. They might lie to you about the girls inside but they probably won't drug you or rob you.

The black tout and dangerous bar combo is mainly a Kabukicho thing. Last time I went Kabukicho it was maybe 60-100 black touts never seen so many. Never seen nigerian touts anywhere else, the US Embassy warned specifically about Kabukicho too. In Roppongi it's not really a thing. People don't go to Roppongi for sex shops after all, they go for clubs. At clubs the security and staff at clubs were Nigerians, they are legit people and keep the bar running and safe. No problem there.

To keep it simple in one statement, do not follow black touts in Kabukicho of Shinjuku, or any other touts. Go straight to Manzoku or any shop you've researched. It is safe as long as you follow this one simple rule.

For those super curious though, in a post 20 years ago I explained following a Chinese tout and also a white tout out of curiosity. They take you to shops that suck, tourist traps. The girls suck and aren't into it, they're ugly, and I wouldn't have sex with the for free. Don't do it, it isn't fun. What can I say, I've written this warning 20 times over the last 6 months and people still see it for the first time so I bold it. Go to a Japanese run shop. That's why I keep my advice simple, I don't give advice about how to deal with things after ignoring my simple advice. But to satisfy people's curiosity, I visited 10 different shops, 9 out of 10 completely sucked in this way. I walked out on those 9. Wouldn't do it for free. A friend also tried one and got a Chinese girl who wasn't into it and dead tired from working all day. Go to Manzoku. They will know exactly what shop will take you, I've used them 20 years. I can't help people who ignore "the one and only rule" type advice.

I know a lot about Chinese women who call out to you, there are three types. I'll link to a post you can click on for more info. First type is 100% legit massage, they will say "massage". Completely agree on "good" touts. I met them everywhere else in Tokyo and rest of Japan. Never had a problem. Most shops were good, of course one can suck. It is JUST Kabukicho, the US Embassy says so, new says so at least back when I went (maybe things have changed). There are normal good touts in Kabukicho too but how would you know they were Japanese or legit? Note these good touts work for the shop they stand in front of, and they are never targeting foreigners. They are making actual exceptions, meaning time of day is a factor and whatever the boss says. Language is the biggest factor for getting in. If you randomly go into Japanese shops you'll get a mix of good and bad of course. This is why I recommend very specific shops that are run properly for years and years.

I noticed in other cities like Nagoya and Osaka the touts were not "marketing" guys but actual staff for the shop they were standing in front of. Probably because there's so few tourists compared to Shinjuku. I could gather from many girls that nearly 100% of customers in Nagoya were Japanese, they would get "one or two a month" like me among many hundreds of Japanese customers. Kabukicho however is full of tourists and the black touts will go right for you but you just keep walking even don't say a word.

This is very obvious to veterans of Japan trips, but when we use the word "touts" we are talking about two distinct types of people, so just to be clear to guys who are maybe looking at this page for the first time and haven't been to Japan yet:

The bad touts are the guys in Kabukicho, mostly black Africans but also Japanese / other who will approach you and try to get you to follow them someplace else. The Africans are probably trying to get you to go to a bar / club and might promise girls / sex / party there. Following them might work out okay, following them might lead to an inflated bill ripoff, following them might lead to you being drugged and ripped off even more badly. The Japanese touts, like I wrote in my last post, might whisper "Psst, Japanese girls, sex. " Going with them might lead to good or bad outcomes as well. I think there was a report on here that wasn't bad at all, but there have been bad reports over the years as well.

As far as I can recall, I have only seen these risky bad touts in Kabukicho, but I can't say for sure that they don't exist in the Shibuya entertainment area or other parts of town. Maybe Roppongi?

A whole separate category of people who might approach you are 1) Chinese woman who call out to you on the street (more often on the edge of Kabukicho) offering "massagee" and 2) Chinese women who offer to lead you to some other location for sex. This can happen around Kabukicho, in Shibuya, in Gotanda, and maybe other places. I did both 1) and 2) on early trips to Japan and wasn't cheated or ripped off. It's still not advisable unless you are interested in cheaper sexual services and don't care if the provider is Chinese and also don't care if the facilities are very shabby.

As for the category of "good" touts, we are talking about employees of a particular establishment who will be standing directly in front of the place and might be soliciting for customers. These people could also be described as doormen most of the time. If you are not Japanese and / or don't speak Japanese, there's a good chance these people will ignore you or say "Japanese only" if you talk to them. But maybe not. An example a "good" tout would be the dude standing outside JanJan in Sugamo. He will wave and smile and usher you inside if you catch his eye. I think these types of dudes exist outside of shops all over Japan. One of these guys invited me into a soapland in Fukuoka when I was trying to find another place. The place ended up being not that good and I shouldn't have gone there, but I didn't get ripped off. I haven't been to Yoshiwara, but these types of dudes might sometimes be standing outside their shops. They might lie to you about the girls inside but they probably won't drug you or rob you.

My first trip to Japan was in May 2014 and my first post to the Japan forum here was in 2015, so I didn't file a trip report that time. Sorry. Maybe I'll file a "historical interest" report some other time. One thing I will say now is that I broke both Kabukicho rules on that first visit. I followed a Japanese "psst, Japanese girl, sex" tout and I also followed a black African tout and I got ripped off both times, but I did live to fight another day.
