In Thai culture, it's normal for a man to give cash to a lady. How the police could ever determine that a pair were prostitute and customer rather than some Farang with his girlfriend is a mystery to me. Even if the lady claimed the man was a customer, it might just be an angry girlfriend. Lots of work for the police for nothing.

To add, if someone has ever been arrested or know someone who would have been factually arrested on the grounds of prostitution laws as a customer, would be interesting to see reports about the incidents. Exclude anything related to minors.

The chances of a monger being arrested in Thailand for prostitution are tiny, so there is no benefit from the discussion. Note: if someone were to be arrested for prostitution, it would be for an ancillary act, not prostitution itself.

Considering how wide open prostitution is practiced in Thailand, whether it's legal or not is a moot point. Some estimates say as many as 2 million prostitutes in Thailand, that could be 20 million transactions per week. That's 52,000 gallons of semen per week. Apparently, nobody's enforcing the law if there is one.

That is because prostitution laws really can not be enforced in a one on one situation. Can we assume that because someone is in a bar drinking with a chick wearing a bikini that prostitution is going on? Let half the people on here tell it, they get told no when trying to hire people as prostitutes in some of those cases.

I have never once had law enforcement overhear me making a deal with a prostitute in order for her or me to be "busted". In 99% of cases it is law enforcement parading as either side of the transaction in order to arrest someone on such charges. If law enforcement is not showing up as trying to buy sex from someone that may or may not be in the market to sell it or sell sex to someone that may or may not be in the market to buy it, then nobody would know the law had been broken. They have to develop a way to catch someone breaking or attempting to break said law, through what I do not understand is not viewed as entrapment.

A Whirlwind Business Trip to Pattaya – With a Quick Stop at Cat Flaps.

Business in Pattaya usually means a change of scenery from the hustle of Bangkok, and this trip was no different. A last-minute meeting called me down to Pattaya, so made the two-hour dash to get things sorted. Quick meeting and business was wrapped up.

With a little time to spare before heading back, I decided to make a strategic two-hour pit stop at Cat Flaps, one of the more out of the way gentlemen's clubs in Pattaya. Located in Pratamanak. As expected, the place didn't disappoint. A relaxed atmosphere, friendly girls, and just enough mischief to make the brief stay worthwhile.

The setup was simple—bought a few drinks and enjoyed the company of two sexy girls. After 2 racks of tequila for each girl, behind the curtain we went. Then the aerobics began. Never realized how strong the tables were LOL. Took real advantage of the space in the big booth. Both ladies performed outstanding. 2500'Baht each and free curtains for me. Woo hoo.

One unexpected highlight. The free beef brisket. A generous perk that many clubs don't offer, and it was surprisingly awesome—tender, smoky, and packed with flavor. Nothing like a quality bite to go with a cold beer and good company.

Before I knew it, the clock was against me, and it was time to hit the road.

What did she show you?

The Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act and the Entertainment Places Act. There may have been other resources she provided. It was a while ago. She explained using the relevant sections in the Acts how prostitution in itself is not illegal. That was enough for me.

I can't remember about the other act, but the Prevention and Suppression Act was nowhere to be found on the internet back then. The attorney found it in hard copy form in the LOC and faxed it. I contacted them only to see if they had a copy, and learned that they will assist with legal research.

Moot or not, it is somewhat amusing that those who claim it is illegal are not able to point out anywhere it says so in the law, or even point out a single prosecuted case. Not even a reported case, except where the alleged prostitution is just a byline to whatever it is someone is actually charged for, yet they keep yapping on about it.
Add to that if there actually was a law against it, how many thousand stories would we have heard of cops lining up potbellied farangs and their 'ho in tow for an easy shakedown? Not even during the occasional "clean up our image as the brothel of the world" periods.

To make a long story short, as part of an investigation I was conducting, I asked a US Library of Congress lawyer (They are available to anyone inquiring. Look on their website.) if prostitution is illegal in Thailand. The lady, who has a law degree from a law university in Japan and a degree in International Law from Georgetown Law School, and who specialized in Japanese and Thai law, said that prostitution itself is not illegal. And she showed me why.

Of course anyone can say anything on the internet. So take it or leave it. But it is not illegal, no matter how many contortions people want to go through, or how many newspaper articles they want to cite or how many of their friends were busted or where they work or even how many cops say it is.

So argue all you guys want (not you, EihTooms) but I hope that eventually you will realize how silly you look when you keep insisting that prostitution itself is illegal, but you can't produce a single statute that definitively says it is. Because it doesn't exist. But as they say, never let the facts get in the way of a good argument.

The problem that has always existed with this topic is when someone casually mentions in a post that "Prostitution is illegal in Thailand", what are those of us who know there is no such law in the Thai Penal Code, The Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act nor any other Code or Act supposed to do or say about it on a by god sure enough International Sex Guide website like this one? Ignore it? Say nothing? Let it go unchallenged and unanswered?

Should everyone wait for at least a half dozen such assertions to be posted before somebody finally speaks up and asks for proof of the repeated assertion? It is not exactly a trivial point to make on this kind of website. And, who knows, maybe there has been a new law passed to that effect. So I think it is a good question to ask in response to the assertion. Again, hardly a trivial point on this particular website.

Yes it is. As are other sections of the Thai Penal Code.

Title X, Offense Against Life and Body.

Section 288. Murder.

Whoever, murdering the other person, shall be imprisoned by death or imprisoned as from fifteen years to twenty years.

Section 289. Death Penalty.

Whoever commits murder on. (lists various situations- against an official in the exercise of his functions, etc.) shall be punished by death.

Section 290. Manslaughter.

Whoever, causes death to the other person by inflicting injury upon the body of such person without intent to cause death, shall be punished with imprisonment of three to fifteen years.

All seem pretty clear and "western" to me.

When driving a car in Thailand it is illegal to speed, drive drunk, drive on the sidewalk, drive without a license, etc. Some people would argue that because those prohibitions exist, driving a car in Thailand is illegal.
