Bro. Our office is full of them weekly. I will tell you some horror stories that will make you cringe, laugh, and cry all at the same time. The biggest amount we have had was 30 million baht. Imagine that? Guys thinking with their smaller head instead of the big one mate.

The Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act and the Entertainment Places Act. There may have been other resources she provided. It was a while ago. She explained using the relevant sections in the Acts how prostitution in itself is not illegal. That was enough for me.

I can't remember about the other act, but the Prevention and Suppression Act was nowhere to be found on the internet back then. The attorney found it in hard copy form in the LOC and faxed it. I contacted them only to see if they had a copy, and learned that they will assist with legal research.

Moot or not, it is somewhat amusing that those who claim it is illegal are not able to point out anywhere it says so in the law, or even point out a single prosecuted case. Not even a reported case, except where the alleged prostitution is just a byline to whatever it is someone is actually charged for, yet they keep yapping on about it.
Add to that if there actually was a law against it, how many thousand stories would we have heard of cops lining up potbellied farangs and their 'ho in tow for an easy shakedown? Not even during the occasional "clean up our image as the brothel of the world" periods.

The problem that has always existed with this topic is when someone casually mentions in a post that "Prostitution is illegal in Thailand", what are those of us who know there is no such law in the Thai Penal Code, The Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act nor any other Code or Act supposed to do or say about it on a by god sure enough International Sex Guide website like this one? Ignore it? Say nothing? Let it go unchallenged and unanswered?

Should everyone wait for at least a half dozen such assertions to be posted before somebody finally speaks up and asks for proof of the repeated assertion? It is not exactly a trivial point to make on this kind of website. And, who knows, maybe there has been a new law passed to that effect. So I think it is a good question to ask in response to the assertion. Again, hardly a trivial point on this particular website.

You guys have done a great job making the Pattaya thread utterly useless now. If anyone wants to post there or read about Pattaya they must weed through pages of dribble on prostitution legal arguments between people without any legal background in Thailand.

Hopefully, this will move this topic over to the thread where it really belongs. I was not going to do this, but for the sake of the Pattaya section being left completely irrelevant, here goes.

If prostitution in Thailand is legal, why is there a whole written law about prostitution describing all the specific situations?

PREVENTION AND SUPPRESSION OF PROSTITUTION ACT be. E. 2539 (1996).

Prevention= the action of stopping something from happening or arising. Suppression / suppress= prevent the development, action, or expression of (a feeling, impulse, idea, etc.); restrain Prostitution= the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment.

Is there really a whole written law about this, but it is actually legal? I think not. The point of the law is to prevent and suppress prostitution. If it was legal, why does it need to be prevented and suppressed? Read the name of the Act. Common sense guys. Now let's exam the specific clauses.

Section 5. Any person who, for the purpose of prostitution, solicits, induces, introduces herself or himself to, follows or importunes a person in a street, public place or any other place, which is committed openly and shamelessly or causes nuisance to the public, shall be liable to a fine not exceeding one thousand Baht.

Example foreign man walks up to a lady on beach road or walking street or soi Bukao and asks how much for sex ST. The Thai girl replies with 1000ST. They agree. Even if no one is considered a nuisance, it's considered shameless in Thai culture. The fact this happened and someone may have witnessed it makes it shameless. They both consented. Boom! Section 5 law is broken.

Section 6. Any person who associates with another person in a prostitution establishment for the purpose of prostitution of oneself or another person shall be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one month or to a fine not exceeding one thousand Baht or to both.

Example. A male customer enters a gents club with short time rooms on site. Has a drink with a Thai girl. The Thai girl and male customer talk about going short time upstairs in the short time room. The male customer asks how much for short time. The lady says 1000 Baht. The male customer then confirms what services he wants such as BBFS CIP or BBBJ. The lady agrees. Then the cashier informs the male customer the cost of the room is 500 Baht. The male customer agrees. The cashier then collects the fee for the room and often collects the ST feee too for the lady, but other times the lady collects it in the room. They go upstairs to the room and have sex. One hour later the cashier knocks on the door informing the couple the time is up. Boom! Section 6 law is broken.

Section 7. Any person who advertises or agrees to advertise, induces or introduces by means of documents or printed matters, or by any means makes known to the public in a manner apparently indicative of importunity or solicitation for the prostitution of oneself or another person shall be liable to imprisonment for a term of six months to two years or to a fine of ten thousand to forty thousand Baht or to both.

Example Thai girl in Pattaya opens a Thai Friendly profile in the Pattaya area. She writes in her profile description "looking for ST" she may write the price or may not. Then gives her lime ID or maybe not. Man sends her a message saying he accepts and asks how much if he does not know an already. The girls says 1000 Baht. Boom! Section 7 law is broken.

2nd example. Lady pays Fiw Fans to allow her to place an advertisement. Then she places an ad with a girls photo with a description of services, how much and a location with phone number or or Line ID. Boom! Section 7 law is broken. This is law is in the act so it is considered prostitution in the eyes of Thai law. Further, the client shows up at an hotel on Ratchada soi 7 and pays the girl in the room. The guy then confirms what service he wants, offers an extra 500 Baht for BBFS and the lady agrees. The hotel in question has 10 other rooms rented by other ladies and of course is aware of the services being provided in their hotel. The hotel now is considered a prostitution establishment. Boom! Section 6 law is also broken.

These laws are all in the PREVENTION AND SUPPRESSION OF PROSTITUTION ACT be. E. 2539 (1996) and in the eyes of Thai law all fall under the definition of prostitution or they would not be in this act.

Final thoughts. Guess what? These examples are real cases that I am aware of first hand. Secondly, do you think every prostitution case ends up in the news? Absolutely not. Otherwise the news would be full of these reports every single day.

In Thailand, prostitution is tolerated just like other crimes and corruption unless it causes a high ranking Thai official or an influential person or the country in itself to lose face. For example a local NGO funded by international donors takes a video on beach road of the activities. Then they publish it. Thailand loses face. Crackdown on beach road on prostitution. Why do you guys think Fiw Fans got busted? Underage girls? Someone high up didn't get paid? Could be many possibilities. Something that big could not go on without influential Thais in the police and government being involved. Hundreds of hotels and condos. Many admins and many ladies and men. The point is that is was tolerated for years until someone lost money or face.

Nothing is black and white in Thailand and that's what you guys are confused about. I have witnessed first hand all three of these laws being used to prosecute people in Thailand and each time it was prostitution. Why? Because of this:

The name of the Act. The laws that were used to prosecute them were in this act. Therefore, in Thailand if one breaks one of the laws in the act, it is prostitution in Thailand. I do not care what any of you guys say. Why? Because this is Thailand, not the US, not Japan, not the UK. Anyone that is prosecuted in Thailand under this act and any of the sections of this act is being prosecuted for prostitution in Thailand. For that reason, PROSTITUTION IS ILEGAL IN THAILAND.

This is the standard post by a monger being scammed. It's so common that it's a running joke. Typical, it's a guy involved in a long con, usually ending with the victim losing all of their money.

I do know some "different" bar girls, but different in ways other than relationships with Farangs.

I know a bar girl who works seriously. No relationships, just fucks for money, and banks it. Works every day, multiple customers per day.

Another bar girl is hounded by customers who want to marry her, one offered nine million baht. But she is a lesbian, and her goal is to retire to go live with the owner of her bar, an old Thai lady. When she is drunk, she will chase women, the straighter the better.

I would think there are more than before. When I started going to Bangkok 20 years ago, there was Loolita's (can you still not write that word here?) and Kangaroo in Patpong. No idea what is going on in Bangkok now.

When I first started coming to Pattaya, there was Loolita's, Telephone Bar, La Poste. But then what is in a name? There were tons of other places without that label where you could do the same thing. Is the concern a place being labeled as a BJ bar or being able to get a BJ in a bar?

Last night I was in a place in Pattaya and a guy at the next table was getting his dick sucked right in the open and all he did was pay for a drink. Then a time came when all the chicks stripped down and started dancing around in a parade. One customer decided to join in and took off all his clothes and started doing it with them.

BJ bars are disappearing but, at least in Bangkok, new ones are popping up to take their place, albeit geared towards their main clientele these days, which is Chinese. For example, Vovo Sukhumvit33 (new), 7-Heaven (not that new but newer than Kasalong etc.), Madame Claude (new), Pink Soda 23 (new-ish, labeled as massage but they advertise themselves as Japanese-style pink salon). As usual with these Asian-geared places, more focus on cute looks & young age, less focus on technique.

I've noticed recently some of the working girls asking for smaller more believable amounts. 100 baht for taxi to work because no money. 200 baht for food because no money, or for pharmacy because sick. They are amounts small enough that some guys feel ashamed for saying no to them. But if a girl goes down the list and gets 100 baht from 10 guys or 200 baht from 5 guys, that's 1000 baht, I. E. , almost 3 x the daily minimum wage, for doing basically nothing. Got to admire the pragmatism.

You can remove "Thai" and substitute any nationality that entertains foreigners. You can remove "bar girl" and replace it with any woman selling any type of sexual services, real or virtual. Bar girl, street hooker, webcam model, or any scammer on any of the various apps. They will all tell the story the customers want to hear.

And they are always telling the truth when they say they will love you forever. Forever means "until you finish paying me. ".

The number of mongers who go to Pattaya, fall for a bar girl, and then blow their life savings on her is significant.

Yet, most mongers are unaware that many bar girls have Thai husbands or boyfriend. There are a couple of common lies in the bar that mongers believe:

And.

"I no like young man".

If a girl wants to drink with me I tell her she has to drink naked. Come in the door, I hand them a towel. They go take a shower. They come out in a towel. If they ask for a drink, I tell them the take the towel off before I pour it up. If they take too long finishing their drink I start in on them and tell them to finish their drink up after I finish. I spent 2 months in Thailand and saw Bangkok a bit costlier and low quality as compared to cheap Pattaya girl prices. But I heard the remote places or villages have girls at 300 baht prices. Does anyone have such experience?

Pattaya is the cheapest in Thailand.

Most Thai villages don't have a mongering scene. And, if they did, no English.

More to the point, if you tried something with a Thai lady in a village, her husband would end you quickly.

The closest I have seen to a mongering spot was a bar in Rasi Salai, which is in deepest darkest Isaan. They had 2 ladies who drove up from Sisaket, since no lady from Rasi Salai would work in town. Of course, it was a Thai bar, so no barfines.
