It's part of the reason why Kira Kira is good value, it is 35 minutes from Shibuya by express train (about $2), and you end up saving a lot of money as a result. But Yokohama is not quite countryside like Nagoya or Chiba, just halfway there in terms of rent and costs. You see this with even food, with the exact same meal costing almost half as much in some other prefectures than Tokyo. Think of Tokyo like NYC in that regard.

Next time I'm in Japan I'll take a "city hike" and pass through Yoshiwara again.
