You shouldn't be surprised. Colombia has been dangerous for a long time and it was much worse in the past with the narco violence. Robberies, kidnappings and druggings are not unusual in Colombia and you will hear new stories every week or so. Now I just came back from Thailand and I never felt in danger in any way. If you want easy access to sex for a reasonable price where you don't have to worry about your safety, go to Thailand. If you go to Colombia, the danger is part of the deal. If you don't want to worry about being drugged or robbed, don't go to Colombia. There are other countries where it is much safer. Even Mexico is much safer for mongers and it is closer to Americans. I have always enjoyed myself in GDL, Mexico and I have never felt unsafe there.

Been exploring Colombia for decades, yes you read that right for Decades and living 10 plus years in Medellin so over these years I have forgotten more than what most people including local Colombian know about Colombia including the chicas from every region / department in Colombia.

Having never been to Thailand but have spent enough time in the Philippines to know that simply put Asian girls just don't do it for me, great to have fun with but really nothing special, thin with no beautiful rear ends like here in Latin America, 99.89% with no breast, zero personality, zero charm or playfulness, I guess the proverbial "To each his own" applies here, the Paisa "cuteness factor" can be off the charts, simply incredible.

Certainly I would never ever consider living full time in any Asian countries such as Thailand, no thanks, my gawd I am spoiled in Colombia, the sweetest most charming Paisas that I have encountered in my life, sensual / charming / playful / flirty / sexy / girl next door types / etc. Yes they are hard to find but dang once you click with one or two, I have many over the past decade, you will never look back.

So you all can stick to "safe" but for myself and a handful of others, just a few out of a hundred thousand, just a bit of street smarts and measured reasonableness in living and playing (no drinking, no drugs, no risky behaviors) and learning Spanish, well the world will open up for you.

I was on youtube researching Medellin. I saw a number of reports of guys being drugged and one guys who was kid napped. I travel alone and am a bit concerned about being a lone wolf in Coumbia. The guys were experienced mongers.

Columbia, Missouri is safer than Columbia, South Carolina. I haven't been to Columbia, Maryland and so cannot comment.

Its a dangerous place for mongers. I'll be there for the tenth time in a week. You have to know how to operate and be smart. My biggest problems are deciding where to eat and who to see in my 10 days.

(1) Dress like the Colombians (shirt, pants and shoes), not like an obvious tourist and no expensive attire;.

(2) No ostentation, expensive jewelry, etc. (leave the Rolex at home);.

(3) Do not have on your attire the impression of a bulging wallet;.

(4) Leave your main phone (with banking, etc.) in your room safe, walk around with a burner phone;.

(5) Do not walk around inebriated;.

(6) Most importantly, when you invite a girl to your room never, I say never, lose site of your drink or food. If for some reason you do abandon that particular drink or meal.

Do the above and you should be ok like you are in the Dominican Republic.

Easy to avoid that. Only fuck chicks with 1 or less tattoo. And what I have preached forever, do not drink around them. Every drugged story starts off with drinking.

You touched on the most important bit. Everyone should do what makes them feel most comfortable. I support it to the extent it doesn't cause personal safety risk or put anyone else at risk.

Like a lot of members here, I've been to dozens of countries. I can think of only two exceptions where long pants are not traditional. One of them is tropical locations where most of the streets are not paved (e. G. The South Pacific, Madagascarc etc.); the other is Brazil where it's not unusual see locals in flip flops and shorts in the busiest central business districts of the biggest cities.

My mother from up north explained to me that when she comes to tropical climates she wears socks inside her sandals so they do not hurt or bite into her feet. I have seen men from New York City on the beach with short pants, black shoes and socks, and they think they are ok. People from up north do not wear sandals much, do not break them in, and do not develop callouses on their feet, like those in tropical climates who can go barefoot or in flip flops or sandals without socks. Still people from colder climates have money to spend, so they should be accepted regardless.

Long pants are more traditional in Colombia, but they need to get with reality. Other people with money can go to the gym, wear short pants, sandals, whatever is fine.
