I rented a car and we drove quite bit in SS but all through the western part of the country. No issues at all. Things we did:
Day 1 Arrival.
Lake Ilopango right as you enter SS. Ate at a good spot overlooking the lake called Kiosko San Francisco.
Stayed in Airbnb in Escalon. PH with balcony. Less than 300 for 3 nights.
Drove up above Santa Tecla to tourist trap place called Picnic Steak house. Popular with locals. Ok food, nice view, tons of dogs. Ok 1 and done tourist spot.
Day 2.
Did a full day Mayan archaeological tour. This was amazing. Highly recommend. Visited 3 different sites. Ate local food (gallina) at a place overlooking lake Coatepeque.
For dinner, Rappi'the pupusas from recommended place. 12 bucks including delivery, 8 diff pupusas to try. Just awesome and so good.
Day 3.
Did city tour. Checked out bunch of cathedrals, giant new library, presidential palace / square, learned history good and bad. Very cool. Local market visit too.
Drove up to El Boqueron to check out the crater within a crater. Ate some damn good food up there at a place called Finca San Cristobal.
Day 4.
Drove west including the ruta de las Flores up thru Sonsonate. There is supposedly an amazing food festival like every Saturday in this area but it was a week day so missed it.
Went to cafe Albania, a sort of amusement park. Ziplines, including bike and surf on zipline, a labyrinth, 2 giant slides and some other shit. We had a blast there.
Drove south and then east up over the hills to try and get to Tamanique for the waterfall hike but missed it.
Stayed in El Tunco (surf / bitcoin city) at a nice hotel. Checked out the area and devoured more pupusas. Nice pebble beach.
Day 5 headed back to 3rd world states of America. 😝.
There's lots more touristy stuff to do. Highly recommend El Salvador and I may be going back next month solo.
Mocos.

That being said, I admit, I liked the seediness and roughness that El Salvador had before from a gringo perspective. In 2005, gringos were kind of a rare entity and kind of had celebrity like status in a club. Everyone wanted to get out of El Salvador and come north bc of the maras and the terrible economic situation. I still have not figured out the name of the club I went to in 2005 in San Miguel but the newer clubs like LE Club do not compare to the 2005 era clubs. Obviously as a resident I would prefer the new environment despite the increase in prices and tourism.
Just an example, when I stay in San Salvador, I always stay at the Barcelo. It was usually around $70 or $80 a night there. The last couple of years it has been a minimum of $150 a night. Huge increase in prices with the increase tourism and demand.

Cebu Guy, thanks so much for the information in the capital.
I happen to live in San Miguel, the opposite side of the country. Approximately 2 hrs from San Salvador, and about 45 min from the Honduran border.
All I have to say is thank God I don't live in the capital, because those prices are on par with parts of Europe. I mean really?
San Miguel has numerous clubs / bars with dancers and rooms on-site, for 1/2 the price. Not to mention the putas who advertise on Wanuncios.
There you can check various parts of the country w / photos & prices. Usually $40-$60 HR at one of the "love " hotels. Those places are a trip, in a good way.
Additionally, if you Google:
Nightclub Bars San Miguel El Salvador.
There is a long selection of places, along w / pics from their bars, girls and nightly / weekly promotions. La Caberet is probably the best known, but it's to pushy w / these little guys in black suits try to sit you down close to the stage. They think they're working Las Vegas.
Anyway, there are lots of little places, because it's not a real tourist spot, no one speaks English. We're about 45 min from the ocean. But the Google page has a couple of short vid's, but if you search bar name on Facebook, you'll find additional videos.
The only occasion I have to drive to San Salvador is going to the airport.
😊.
Take care.
Oh BTW, it goes without saying, but for those unfamiliar with regions outside San Salvador, the country shows its true colors of a "3rd world" country. Still beautiful, humble, helpful people, things and surroundings are different. I'll leave it at that.
Enjoy.

Posts: 1San Salvador. Rolex for a newbie
First time in SS and first report in this forum. I relied greatly on some of the posts here for Guidance. Thanks so much. A little background. Mid 60's guy neatly dressed, clean and in good shape. I am a very experienced SE Asian guy (Philippines primarily Cebu and AC with some Bangkok, Pattaya, and Manila experience.) . I am relatively new to the Central American scene other than 1 short trip to Tijuana with a buddy in 22. My first couple of visits to places were a disappointment. Went to Kiss Fresh last Saturday at about 9 pm not realizing it was closing in an hour and to Cocktails and dreams on Sunday about 8:30 pm where there just wasn't much to choose from. Tuesday night started at Lips but forgot about the phone check and had to abandon the plan as 'Yo no hablar espanol bueno' . No google translate = no fun. Went to Rolex next night about 9:30 pm. 10 entry gets you a beer and they did not ask for ID that night as per the other gentleman's report. Nice looking club and about 10 girls. Total nude dancing on small stage. I am picky and only like slim pretty girls. Honestly half (5) of the girls working were smoking hot. I only saw 1 chunky one that I would not touch and the remaining 4 were passable depending on your taste. I spoke to one Super Hot one via Google translate but my Se Asia bar experience perceived she was a bit of a princess and might not be fun. Who knows? She was all the same friendly. Her body was a Centerfold type body with a beautiful face (9/9). Next one was a brunette, Face was an 8 and body 10 (I am not into huge boobs) . She was a small see cup and obviously no babies at 25. Had braces (I love that) and name was Xenia or something like that. More personality than first one so I decided to lose my SS virginity with her as she was very clear on do's and don'ts and it was mostly 'Do's'. Price was 160 for 1 hour with half a bottle of something. I don't drink much so told her to pick bottle. She was fun and enjoyable. No rush and very positive attitude. We went to a video (VIP?) room and I wasn't sure if we were supposed to do the deed there but was beginning to wonder as 20 minutes passed. She danced a bit and we chatted and laughed and drank (mostly her on the drinking). Finally she said if I want to do the deed let her know? I was worried on time, and not knowing the process there, didn't hesitate. She said ok wait? Came back with the Mesero a couple of minutes later and they said transfer to the bedroom (wtf. Ok. LOL). They actually have bedroom (s) on site. I think bedroom was reasonable for central America 'cat house'. They changed sheet between customers? LOL? Spent about another very enjoyable half our there. She was sensational. Great effort and gave her a small tip (extra 20) after. Also tipped the Mesero 5 in case I go back (he spoke descent English). So great introduction to SS for me and now you know how things work at Rolex. There was an option from the first girl 70 (50 + 20 for drink) for half hour dance and BJ but no sex. Price was consistent with the 2 girls I talked with. The bottle is mandatory (60 of the 160. House end I think?) They put a piece of green painters tape over your phone camera when you enter. Happy travels.

Have all the street brothels closed down? I just saw this. Posted 8 days ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-sd8n8Me_c.
Anyone on the ground there provide any info? Are the still open in Santa Ana?
I'm a ex-Peru chongo guy (cause it's so unsafe there now) who prefers bigger ladies. Seeing if I can get the same thing in ES. Thanks.

-Uber works fine here. Just be patient as traffic is horrible and only bound to get worse.
-Plenty of thicker women on the dating apps. You'll get plenty of attention. But even when you think you've found one that's not so thick, you'll realize she's using old pictures.
-Tipping is a waste of time. It's not part of the culture and won't get you any better service in any type of establishment.
-Where to stay:
Grand Via, Multiplaza, and Cascades malls are all next to each other and that's where the pretty civilian chicks are. I would recommend staying there over Zona Rosa. Now, if you're going for more of the naughty stuff, just stay up in the El Escalóand area.
-Many tourist spots were closed for maintenance. Check google reviews.
-Nightlife is very quiet in January due to most people not having money after Christmas spending. Something I was told by a local chica.
-I Never felt unsafe. Not once.
-Never saw or used any local currency. (Colone).
-Avenida independcia and Juan Pablo.
(Calle Castillo) has a run of chicks hanging out in the doorways for rooms they pay for. All thick women and I didn't stop to ask for prices but if that's your cheap Charlie thing, that's where you go. I just happened to stumble on it. Seemed kinda shady and I just strolled through in the day, night would surely be worse.
Enjoy.
Taco.
