To be clear, I am not American. To say wages are higher in the rest of world is a rather ignorant inaccurate statement as most waiters would be on minimum wage or under in large tracts of the World. Then many Countries that don't have minimum wage labour laws. Not to mention the black economy of low paid jobs. I respect your point about culture in Japan but it definitely doesn't travel with Japanese emigrants working, studying and living in my Country, they tip very generously.
