Posts: 161Michael, sorry we missed you and wishing you luck in Peru. T and I enjoyed seeing you in Cartagena last year. We came to the same decision after this trip (leaving tonight), but have no ill feelings about the DR. We simple decided for the pricing other venues offered better options. Stay safe.

This trip to Sosua proved better than anticipated, but it will be the last for me.
On a positive note, the strip is coming back to life. Chicas. There also seems to be a better variety of females from whom to choose. The last time we visited, Sosua was overpopulated with rather full-figured, particularly in the rear, women full of tattoos and lacking social skills. This time, there was a better variety from all shapes and sizes with no particular group dominating the scene (other than many had tattoos). Many of the waitresses on Sosua beach made it more than obvious they were available after work for a price. One attractive waitress working at spot 66 stated whatever one wanted was no problem. In contrast to the past, this is fairly bold for semi-pros; or perhaps she was a pro with a side job as a server to solicit future clients. Music. The music seems to have returned to Caribbean style, which is a positive, in lieu of an overabundance of American varieties. Videography. Thankfully, far fewer people were recording videos for posting on YouTube and other places on the Internet than in the past. Behaviors. Mongers seemed better control of their behaviors than when things centered around the Ahnvee Hotel.
The neutral. Restaurants. The variety of restaurants proved to be fairly consistent, with nothing standing out, but there are many that we never tried. Though many restaurants closed (like Sinatra's), the replacements in the same locations seemed to offer identical menu options. The fare at Hotel Alecia proved decent and inexpensive for breakfast, but they are only open for breakfast. New Garden offers a safe bet for meals, but is over-priced. Lodging. My travel mate plans to return for two weeks just after the new year. He's been able to talk with a variety of hosts who offer a discount for that period if you talk with them directly in lieu of using the Internet for inquiries. He also prefers a small area to explore prior to booking, one with familiarity. Perla de Sosua offered him a decent rate, but it's not the highest quality. People. We noted many of the people in Sosua remember us from the past, including names. It was impressive how they remember people.
The bad. Prices. The pricing in Sosua significantly increased from the past, and my travel mate and I can eat in the United States or any monger travel destination for the current pricing in Sosua. The same is true for the hotel or AirBnB pricing. The women, well they are always costly, in one way or another, no matter the place. My mate tells me they are trying to negotiate from $150 and the proves consistent with what other mongers stated when eating meals. My travel mate drinks beer and alcohol and indicated pricing for beer in Sosua runs about 350 pesos, or $6. Transportation. Quad runners were everywhere on this trip with mongering drivers who likely never drove one in the past.
So why is this likely the last trip? Other places, such as Colombia, offer a better bang for the buck and more to do. Next stop, Medellin.
Best of luck on your endeavors.

Posts: 18162You never said she asked for a microwave. You just said you asked why she did not have one. I think it is foreigners that play themselves when they go to these places and think the locals should live or want to live how they live back home. I do not think I have been in any Dominican homes outside of airbnbs that had microwaves. Half the time the power does not work anyway, so a lot of good that will do. Give them money and let them decide what they need to buy with it.

I would never say the diving is excellent in Sosua. It is, at best, thoroughly average, but is something to do in the morning. The Zingara wreck is a very good dive if you can get the dive shop to take you there, it's a bit of a drive (maybe 15 minutes) in the small boats. Last time I tried to dive there we couldn't find the tie-in line and buoy. The airport wall is also OK, just a little farther away.

I would NEVER go to Sosua just for the diving. But the p $ssy is still pretty good and I enjoy both activities.

Posts: 2405It's getting warm here, and I'll be making my annual visit back to TO to take visit family and stuff early this year.
My last Sunday, yesterday. Was spent at one of my favorite places, Costambar Beach. What a change in a couple of years. The old beach shack bar / restaurant run by abuela Marina is still there, but now is surrounded by new high end hotels, and restaurants. Marina has sweated slaved over a wood fire for years in the lean-to kitchen at the back, cooking some of the best food to order. , but she's always genuinely happy doing her thing and proud of it. My kind of folks!
If anyone is looking for a really laid back experience you can't beat gated community Constanbar. It's a little off the beaten track, but now here are hotels and restaurant / bars with free pools, free pool tables. No hookers per se, but plenty of local staff and servers who may be available.
And in a pinch Blackbeard's is just a block away from the beach!

Posts: 22Ahhh I'm a cheap bastard and can't PM lololol. I've definitely done diving across Sosua Bay and the coral / sea life ain't close to Curacao. I may just do a quick day to drop below 60 ft because the experience is my zen shit. I did Dive Cabarete because I knew the instructors there and hooked up with the secretary but everybody has moved on.
Just got in last night and of course I the apps are loaded with 40 hustling profiles split between tinder / bumble. About a third from Puerto Plata / Sosua. Had one gal come over already $20 USD to cover taxi each way along with her fee. Had to hold my ground after she said she needed to pay the babysitter $80 USD for 2-3 hours and asked for her share on top lololol wtf.
This is downside of me staying in Cabarete. I'll live with it. My main goal is decompress from work on a beach with booze and my vape.
Does anybody have any recs about sports bars? I tried to catch a place to watch the NBA playoffs and none of the spots on the beach gave a fuck. I just need a place to drink and be a fan during this vacation. It be nice to talk trash / shop with other NBA fans too.

Posts: 164Unless you treat the chicas like shit, then you should never feel bad or embarrassed about what you do for them. I posted part of this story on the Cartegena board, but left of bits because I didn't want to be called a sucker, but when I was in Cartagena last year, I spent a lot of time with a newbie who was a Colombian hippee (people at my Airbnb called her Senorita Loca). When we first met we immediately clicked. We hung out all day had dinner, went dancing until the bars closed. I kept asking her what she wanted and her answer was always whatever you feel right giving me. My thought was, she's running a scam. After she spent the night, I again asked her what she wanted and she said her daughter's birthday was coming up and she really wanted a bicycle. She actually showed me the bicycle and it was like $60. So, I gave her what her I felt another chica would ask for spending the night and having sex with me several times without a condom (after about the third time, it no longer made sense, I'm fixed and if she had an std I would have caught it anyway). Anyway, a few days later I took her to the store and we got her kid the bike and I paid for it. I didn't think much of it, but a couple of weeks after I got home she sent me a video of her daughter riding the bike and thanking me for helping her mother buy it.

As long as it doesn't hurt me, I'll do what I can. I encourage you to do the same. You can be a giver as well as a taker. Shit, the men in my family all die when they're young. I'm 57, my kids are successful, so they don't need it and I can't take it with me. If it makes someone's life better that is willing to hold still while I pound away on her let her have it.

I don't believe I've ever weighed in about how much a fellow hobbyist pays for his pleasure, or how he gets off. I enjoy honest Reports, the good, bad, and the ugly! LOL. I'm a firm believer in to each his own, but. I will take issue with the posters that denigrate Sosua expats and fellow mongers, as those who have never traveled, who enjoy the "humiliation" of being ripped off because, like battered wives, they just don't know any better!
After 15 years of such posts, it gets a little stale, and needs to be called out, because aside from a couple of posters, nobody wants to bother posting a positive report to see it sliced. Diced, and personally insulted. It's basically killed this board for Sosua fans! And that's a shame!
Why do they keep it up from halfway around the world? That's above my pay scale, but I've seen many who got their superior asses handed to them, by "lowly hoes", and hell hath no fury like a monger scorned!
So enjoy what you do! Take advice from anonymous internet posters with grain of salt, keep a sense of humor about it all, and ignore the critics!
LOL.

The photos she showed me were great. She didn't look anything like her photos. She had such a shitty attitude when I met her, that there was no way I was doing anything with her. The result was a filet mignon and (you're going to laugh) another angry text this morning about how I thought she wasn't good enough for me. I didn't read the whole thing. I just blocked her ass. My daughters would be rolling their eyes right now if they saw this, they always tell me that I when I encounter assholes, I always try and make peace with them and then in the end I finally get pissed off and then do exactly what I should have done in the beginning (like tell them to kiss my ass) and I definitely should have just blocked her ass in the first place.
Someone else mentioned that I paid 5000 pesos. I think I may have paid one that when I couldn't remember where I put my wallet and she spent 30 minutes looking for it with me. She was only 4000, I gave her 1000 because I kept her at my place until my wallet was found. With the exception of the one I took to dinner and dancing and drinking, the most I paid on this trip was 4300 (I usually add 300 for the moto so when they ask I tell them them they already have it). As I said, I don't barter, so if you're budget conscious, you can probably do much better. The last one kept asking me what I was willing to pay and when I didn't respond, she said 3000 and I immediately said yes. She then said, "you were going to take me no matter what I say". I said, "yes". I'm sure she was just kicking herself when she left, I got every dollar worth.

A couple of issues still burn into their psyche to this day, like the time I bought a coffee pot for my regular, who's place I used to stay at when in town. That became "a stupid gringo buys kitchen appliance for hoes" LOL.
Another time also years ago, I allowed how I let my regular (7 years at that point) carry my shit when we were out and about. I wear shorts, carry no man bag, and like to travel light, so I give her my wallet, glasses, cigarettes, lighter, phone, charger, keys, a pen, meds and walking around money, for concho fare and stuff she needs from the colmado for kitchen supplies, to carry in that portable safe she calls her bolsa. That became "stupid gringo let's hoes carry his wallet! LOL.
All these years later, they still bring it up, see Mr. E's post here 3 days ago! LOL.
He does the same with OldKool, who made the mistake of letting his female companion share his lunch! Years ago! LOL.
So here's another "confession" for them to cut and paste into their meticulously maintained Gotcha Scrapbooks! I let my partner buy my casual tshirts and shorts in PP. Always a great fit, cool in the heat, and cheap! Recycled too for the Climate Change carers.
Now the dude is bragging about taking his Dominicana hoe to the USA?
You can't make this stuff up!
LOL.

Posts: 18162Let's see if you get as much ridicule as me for saying the same thing in different terms. I always say it is like battered spouse syndrome. Folks always have an excuse why they will not leave the abuse. People also like being a big fish in a small pond. They would stay in 7th grade until they were 20 years old if you let them.

The same as I do not plan on paying a Sosua hooker to fuck as much as it would cost me to take them to a restaurant to eat steak.
Said in my last trip report that no matter how much you give them, they are still going to ask for more. I gave a chick 2000 for all night asked for more. I think you said you gave a chick 5000 for whatever time and she asked for more. It don't even matter. Best to do like Grown Man and bargain for low with the promise of additional if they do a good job. That way the asking for more is already factored in.
