My guess is because some people wish it cost the same as a chicken shack brothel in rural Cambodia and when they find out it doesn't, they try to shame others for driving up the prices. I have seen none of this favoritism towards Korean, Japanese, etc. I think they're describing favoritism toward people who can afford what it costs now.

I didn't come here in the 1980's, so I really don't know what to compare it to.

Actually happens on both ends of the price spectrum. When I first arrived I posted that I got a girl for 800 Baht Short Time. Was attacked and accused of lying. In my personal opinion, there are SO many tourists that come to Thailand now, I think it has gotten to the point where there are certain demographics that are looked down upon if they do not meet the spending habits of other demographics that spend more.
