Depends on your level of trust and / or safety. The ID confiscation and sign-in reduces the odds of your being drugged and / or robbed in your room. Possibly the worst offender: City Garden Grand. You don't necessarily need to be there with her, the guard can confiscate her ID as she signs in, and he calls up to your room to see if your 'visitor miss Anna' can come up to your room (assuming your hotel / condo / residence has phones in the rooms). Same when she departs, you don't need to go downstairs with her; when she signs out and gets her ID, the guard calls your room to inform you that your guest is departing, giving you time to check your belongings if necessary and assuring that you are OK.

Never say 'never'. Or 'always'. I agree, most pinay don't talk like that. However that doesn't mean some don't. They do, and I've heard them (loud and obnoxious at times).

    Avoiding the Walk of Shame

Is there any way to avoid reception-type accommodation, whilst still maintaining reasonable security in cities? Or am I just being over-sensitive ... and should (metaphorically) embrace security guards with their need to check IDs?

PPS: All aircon filters clog with dust fast. Blast with hot-shower spray (I bring my own shower head with filter-in-handle & 3 x push-button settings). Drip-dry, pat-dry, then re-install. Spray cans of air from Lazada can be used on the dense, aircon internal louvers. Also great for cleaning keyboards and electric-shaver foils (oil afterwards).

PPPS: Covid was a total myth and propaganda exercise to depopulate. 20 million deaths & 2 billion injured by the shots (see Swiss Professor Anita Baxas MD substack). Any claimed symptoms were due to natural, self-detoxification episodes (and possibly the media's psycho-somatic effects). Viruses have never been proven to exist, let alone transmit pathogenically.

US Army Dr Milton Rosenau determined that in tests during 1918-19 -- on both East & West coasts -- and could not transmit symptoms via proximity or fluid-exchange. The sickening, crude, early vaccines and broadcast-radio frequencies were the culprits, and we still have wi-fi & cellular: over which caution should be exercised. All 'vaccines' are poison.

Welcome. Smart Girl Irish is a refreshing change. She seems to be part guy. She talks about smashing like a guy. She swears like a sailor. Bakla maybe? I like it the way she says stuff, like "You are sending money from overseas to your good girl, meanwhile she's getting her guts rearranged EVERY NIGHT" Hahaha.

Any M Lhuillier, Cebuana, or LBC store. Or any of the other remittance places. Standard fee of 2% for cashout. Also any sari store that cashes out GC will hit your Maya with either their own GC phone number, or some have the QR code. Minimum 2% cash out fee (as the sari owner is also paying a fee to get cash for you at his nearby LBC or Cebuana). Many sari stores illegally charge a higher cash out fee of 5% or more.

The 2% cash out fee required by GC, Maya, or others is normally split half (1%) to GC, and half (1%) to the store owner (sari, or LBC, etc). By charging you 5%, a sari owner gives 1% to GC, and keeps 4% for himself.

To answer my own question, if anyone needs to do the same, just go anywhere that offers Cash Out for G Cash, don't mention Maya and just scan the G Cash QR code and pay 2% fees. No ID required. It's a 2 minute process. I think the mechanism is that I paid from my Maya into the store's G Cash account and they gave me the cash but let's lot sweat the details. At the end of the day it worked and I've got cash on hand.

As an aside, it was a mom and pop Notary store but she counted my 20 k of a brick of cash that would have choked an elephant.

I keep a spray cannister of Lysol or similar air purifier (kills 99.9% blah blah). In every new condo, apartment, residence, hotel, etc. I pull out the aircon filter when I move in. 95+% of the time the filter is caked with dust and debris. That filter appears to either have never been cleaned, or at least not in the last year. I just clean it myself; it only takes about 1 minute to knock the dust out of it and put it back in the unit. Its indicative of what was said about pinoy prev-maint issues. I Lysol spray the filter and reinstall it, and I also spray the outbound cold air vent, wait a minute, and turn the f*cker on.

Related side story. Back in 2020 and 2021, when I was reporting on the ROF (Returning Overseas Filipinos) program, where the government was bringing home pinoys stranded in host countries like Saudi and Kuwait. They would bring then to Manila and quarantine them for 2 weeks in a hotel (ie, Red Planet). Then the government flew them (or shipped them) to their home city and quarantined them (14 days, later 10 days, later 7, later 5 days) in a hotel there. THEN they transported them to their Brgy and home. I was staying at 2 different local hotels, living in them, and saw the same thing in both hotels. They would bring in 2 busses of OFW around 3 am. They would take small groups of them (usually 2) up in an elevator and put them in to one room. Then two more in a room that was at least 2 doors down. There was a chair outside each door (and a long plastic screen in front of each door). The OFW had to stay inside with their bunkmate for the entire Q time. Meals were placed on the chairs 3 x per day for them. Of note: Most of them developed covid-like symptoms once they arrived. Even if they didn't come outside into the hallway, you could hear them coughing inside. They often passed their covid pcr test for release, but had a cold of some kind. It was no wonder to me why: When they departed for their Brgy together, the hotel cleaning staff would leave the door and a window open for 24-48 hours after the departure cleaning of the room (and they also lit the room while cleaning with an indigo-blue UV light), to air the room out. I, sleaze-bag snoop that I am, would waltz into the open room, put a chair under the aircon, pull the disgustingly dirty filter out, clean it, and re-insert it. Imagine being stuck in a Red Planet or such for a week or more with a window that does not open, and a dirty aircon unit that you are running 24 hours a day.

I offered one day to clean every aircon filter in the hotel (boredom; early covid, everything was shut down, nothing else to do other than Netflix). I was told their maintenance staff would take care of it. LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE!

If you're talking about the big cities like Manila, Cebu or Davao, then it's likely just the ambient air pollution.

I remember when I lived in Asia, it was very rare to have a house full of healthy people. Someone was always sick with chest, throat or sinus infections. When we went on a holiday, everyone magically improved. I swear it was the atrocious air quality.

    Sorry. I don't have a simple solution.

    Ai con is important

In my opinion its from the hotel air conditioners never being cleaned. The manufacturers recommend monthly general cleaning and annual deep cleaning.

If you don't clean them they will grow mold, which you will inhale.

My solution is on my next trip to do like the locals and use a fan and open window. Conversely I may ask the hotel to thoroughly clean the air conditioner as a condition of my occupancy.

I've been visiting the Philippines since 1976 and can say with confidence that the locals will not invest in preventative maintenance if not compelled to do so.

    Any thoughts?
I would say air con is the culprit. I say that as someone who hates it and only uses it when necessary, which is in very hot Philippines and when the hooker is asleep. I have had problems with air con for decades and, for definite, a dirty air con, often the norn, is bad, very bad. Depending on where you are staying, I would not expect them to clean it but to tell you to politely FK off. Pinoys use fan as it is cheaper. I bought a lady a big fan and she was worred at the electricity it might use. They worry about costs, as we did when we had not a pot to piss in.

A friend of mine recently told me of a beauty he'd taken to his hotel in Indonesia who confessed she was only 17. He'd been told she was 18 before taking her to his room.

I'm a little terrified of making this mistake and finding myself breaking the law. What checks do you conduct before taking her to your room? Are fake ids common, so you could find yourself with a 16 or 17 year old but think she was 18 or above?
