I'm heading to HAV do this weekend, but I prefer the solo travel. Cuba ain't for everyone. And my experience with traveling with a bro is that at best you end up babysitting an inexperienced gringo, and at worst bro could be an undercover. Either way I'm not wasting a trip.

In Habana ATM. There are things that I worry about (eg, fake carnets), but worrying about police hassling a tourist is down there with getting hit by a meteor. You are the golden goose.

20 years ago, police were everywhere (much more of a dogmatic police state under Fidel), and even then I didn't worry. The Policias Especiales were there to protect the tourists from jineteros and to stop the working girls from being so obvious. And the girls were super paranoid (I've never heard a chica mention police these days). Now you see far fewer police and the jineteros are much more bold. Cubans might disagree, but IMO the Cuban government is more pragmatic about some things now. Not that they are any more competent, but they really don't seem to sweat the small stuff like they used to. Stealing as much money as possible remains the government's main concern.

It's hot AF here, so my patrolling is less than in March. But it is hard to walk the Prado down to San Rafael and not get looked at by some sporting chicas. I prefer to meet chicas online, but one young little beauty, who seemed to be represented by her mother, was so cute I had to talk to her. She looked so young I asked for her carnet right there. Like the other member mentioned, just comply and be polite. Take a photo of your passport in your phone and leave the passport in your apartment locked away. Honestly I think trying to bribe 4 statistically is not in your favor. Maybe if you were only stopped by one.

With regards to ID, I carry a colour copy of my passport whenever and wherever I travel. My original passport never leaves the safe. I've been doing this for years. No matter how nice the location is, I never want to risk losing, damaging or getting my passport stolen.

As for the cops, just be polite and comply. If the cops want to detain the girl, let them detain the girl. It's not worth you spending the rest of your evening stuck at a police station (at best) or escalating it and ending up in a Cuban cell. Most likely the cops won't even hassle you. They're there to protect the tourist trade.

Comply, be polite, don't try to bribe them. They know every puta better than you do. Have a laminated copy of your ID or a second original document on you. If they want to detain your girl they are going to detain her.

Not sure what your definition of a "smart" pro is, but trading 3 days of unlimited pops for a few meals and no guarantee of actual pesos at the end doesn't seem intelligent to me at all; especially considering the low amounts that I give (if I give anything). Of course she takes it but the point is that it's not expected, not negotiated and I choose the amount. On my January trip though (my first time in Cuba), I didn't give her anything and it was fine.

As for cost, that depends on perspective. If she's with me 3 days out of a trip and I'm beating it down 3 times per day, the cost of an additional entree / drink at breakfast, lunch and dinner (in Cuba, mind you) comes out to a very nice per / pop price; maybe in the $12-15 range give or take?

I consider that a good deal. Others might be able to find pros for less though (I did get blown for $11 and had sex with another one for $16 so it's definitely possible but they were with me for an hour, not all day for multiple days). Different folks, different strokes.

They won't issue new visas. IR / CR 1 categories are exempt so they will keep issuing those visas. It's basically banning Cubans to enter USA.
