I started my last trip to Brazil with a 12-day stay in Rio. This was my second time in Rio. For accommodations I had a similar pattern in each city. Staying in Airbnb's most of the time but booking a hotel for a few days near the end, in case I wanted to have a guest over. For transportation I used mostly Uber and the 99 ride app. I posted a detailed review of the latter a couple weeks ago and highly recommend getting the 99 ride app as an additional option when in Brazil. I also got a metro card and used the metro a handful of times, mainly for longer rides for example from Copacabana to Centro. Each ride is 7 BRL which is dirt cheap and can save a lot on long distance rides. However, I used Uber /99 most of the time as most rides were 15-30 BRL which is just $3-6 and much more convenient.

Beach and boardwalk scene was good. Went swimming twice, once in Leme / Copa and once in Barra the Tijuca. I had read that the Leme part of Copa beach is less crowded, but on the Sunday I went it was packed. In contrast the Barra beach had much fewer people, which seems typical there. The water was fine but freezing cold. And invigorating. Loved it. I brought minimal belongings to the beach and tipped a beach chair vendor to watch my stuff while I went in the water. I used a waterproof phone pouch and lanyard / clip to keep my phone and a few BRL with me in the water. It worked out well, I had no anxiety about getting valuables stolen, and the vendors appreciated a 20 BRL tip.

I sampled plenty of restaurants. Typical Brazilian dishes with rice, fries, beans and chicken or steak were widely available and the most common meals I had. One standout was Barraca the Chiquita Copacabana which has great dishes from the northeast. The area around the Largo do Machado park / metro in Catete also has a good restaurant and nightlife scene. Places like Pura Chama, Billy The Grill, Gambino, etc.

For garotas I focused on massage places / indies and termas. The first day I went to see an independent massage lady who gets consistent great reviews on gparena and looked cute in her ad: https://destackterapias.com/a/viviane-2/ She works in Centro near the Cinelandia metro. Easy to book. No ID check at the building. The photos must be 10 years old, in person she is larger and older, but very nice. Professional massage and BBBJCIM finish all for 200 BRL. The second day I went to 4 x4 in the evening. I didn't bother changing into a robe; I hung out in the main area a bit but it was mostly people watching. I spent most of the time in the night club. Between the main area and the night club there were about 30 girls and 20 guys, but only a few girls looked tempting. After sitting around in a robe for 45 minutes, nursing a drink, I called it quits. Total loss was the 180 entry. At least I got to satisfy my curiosity about the place. It's always wise to have a Plan be, and 30 minutes later I was sitting in Monte Carlo. What a difference! Similar size venue, but this evening it was less crowded and the garota selection was off the charts compared to Solarium. About 15 garotas all in the 7. 5 - 8. 5 range and all available except one. I would have gone with half of them. Ended up choosing Marcela, a dark haired attractive branca. Had some drinks and chatted in the main area, her sales pitch was not as hands on as I had hoped, but she confirmed BBBJ and I decided to take her for an hour. BTW, the receipt listed the total cost in USD and EUR as well, so presumably I could have paid in those currencies. The USD equivalent was about $193 which would be 1060/193 = 5. 5. Not sure what I'm missing but this is better than the official exchange rate. So Monte Carlo looks like a great option to spend USD.

I also checked out Casablanca one night. On my prior visit to Rio, Casablanca was my main spot and I had taken 4 girls from this club. Things have changed. Back in 2022 the entry was 100, which IIRC covered a drink each for yourself and the girl; the club exit fee to take a girl out was 200, and the girls were asking 500-600 for 1-2 hours. Now in 2025 the entry is still 100 which includes a drink for yourself only, with a limited choice of caipirinha, water, juice or soda. No beer! The girl drinks are in the 600-800 range, the exit fee is 600 and the girls are asking 1000. While the entry and the increased girls fee make sense, the club has evidently hiked their take from 200 to 1200 for having a drink with a girl and taking her out. Just nuts. Getting numbers can be tough here too, I did get a number from one girl but she seemed a little paranoid trying to do it discretely. The quality is good here though, so Casablanca is still perhaps an option but be prepared to spend $$$ for the first time and get her number to see her OTC after that for much less. I did see a couple girls get taken out during the hour I was there.

The short answer is that almost every first time traveler to Rio would benefit from a wingman who has more experience and language skills.

Mongers self organize quickly according to many factors including the price target, their own race and nationality, and their education level etc etc.

Read some interesting stories here from some of you when checking out the scene with a wingman which brings me to a question especially surrounding prives. I had a wingman in Bangkok this past summer and when we explored some of the smaller sidestreet girlie massage fuckshops, we noticed that most of them had very small lineup rosters. Maybe 6 to 10 girls at any one time. One challenge we found was for both of us to find an acceptable girl for each of us at the same venue. For example at some places we would find only one girl that was attractive to us and unfortunately she would be the same one we both would accept. I've essentially been a lone wolf for most of my mongering career. Too many guys do too many stupid things, and you can get caught up in their shit just through association. I couldn't take the risk, and needed to keep a low profile. The one time I did have a wingman, the guy turned out to be a stumbling drunk, acted like I was supposed to be his personal cambio and unpaid Spanish interpreter, and was digging all up in his nose scaring the tutes away! Second, it would help if the guy kind of rolls how I roll. I'm more of a "night league" monger than a "day league" monger. I prefer clubs to casas and prives. And, I like to hit no more than 1 to 2 joints max in a night versus running all over the place all over town. Settle in and take the scene in. Save some to monger another day (or night). Also, although not a high requirement, I think it would help if your potential wingman didn't like the exact same kind of girls that you do. When I link up with a wingman for the first time, I always ask, do you do any sports, especially martial arts, and does your phone have a local chip, and I tell them my plan for a confrontation which is to run away, and be ready to call for services (190 police, 193 ambulance), and discuss where the hospital is.

You don't need a CPF to get a local phone number.

As discussed often just go to Central Metro buy a chip cadastrada.

CPF seem to worth it, do it in your country. Its free and you have no obligation related to it. Its a pain to not have it, lots of apps and website require it. Like local taxi app and some esort website with paid plan.

For a phone number it probably require it too. There is virtul sim card like Airalo who allow texting and give a cell number but I don't know if you can reactivate later with the same phone number. It doesn't require CPF but its more expensive then a plan from Brazil.
