They are suppose to be public servants after all!

Posts: 2524No Elvis, you have lots of choices! I'll be writing your name, Elvis 2008, in on the ballot for the upcoming Talarico / Paxton contest. And if the main parties can't come up with better candidates for president than last time, I'll vote for the Libertarian unless he / she is a dumb ass. In that event I'll write in Amy the wonder dog.

Posts: 2524Not a bad idea IMHO. Also, how about doing away with primaries? Instead have a general election with ranked choice voting. Anyone who gets enough signatures on a nominating petition can run, regardless of party.

Thomas Jefferson was the founder of the predecessor to the modern Democratic Party. John Adams and Alexander Hamilton founded the opposing Federalist Party. All were involved in Washington's administration, Jefferson as Secretary of State. He resigned in a tizzy because he wasn't getting his way. Notably he wanted to involve the USA on the side of France in its war with Britain. Ironically, later in his inaugural address as President, Jefferson emphasized the wisdom of avoiding foreign entanglements, much more articulately than Washington ever did.
Originally the President was the person who got the most votes in the general election, and the Vice President the second most. When John Adams was elected president in 1796, Jefferson was runner up. He couldn't get along with Adams, and spent most of the next four years at his home, Monticello. This was the beginning of the end for American bipartisanship.
What Jefferson did do during those four years at Monticello was spend considerable time banging Sally Hemings. Sally was a mixed-race slave who bore six of Jefferson's children. Jefferson's Will did not provide for Sally's freedom upon his death. His estate would have sold her along with most of the other slaves on Jefferson's estate to settle his considerable debts. Fortunately, Jefferson's daughter intervened on behalf of Hemmings.
This is all from a great series currently on Netflix. Highly recommended.
I shall return to this topic in the near future, to provide Tooms with further details of the sordid pasts of the founding fathers (Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Andrew Jackson) of his beloved Democratic Party.

Posts: 269Just when I was about to say you're more balanced than I thought, you had to just blurt this out:
"I think Trump's plan on tariffs was actually the right idea but instead of implementing them the legally correct way and going through Congress, he signed executive orders and acted in an incredibly impulsive way when doling out said tariffs. So I give him an A on the idea and a F on execution."
The tariffs were probably the 2nd or 3rd most stupid things this moron leader of yours did. Ostensibly they were to "reduce the American debt". How's that working out? Be honest Elvis, they are a mechanism for making the average joe fund the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. You accuse me of TDS, but you're suffering from TMS- Trump Messiah Syndrome, seeking to find logic in the dumbest of moves. He's not the Messiah. He's a very naughty boy.
I agree though that Kamala Harris was a daft choice and that's on Biden. As for the ME, no in honesty I can't excuse or justify the conduct of most of his predecessors but the one thing you can say is he's upped the volume to 11 on everything. It's on his watch that Israel has conducted itself with such impunity that it's now victimizing and brutalising the Palestinian christians. Still there is a silver lining to everything, and America is finally opening up to seeing what Israel is and has been doing. This is consequential of Trump's callousness but of course does not mean he deserves any credit for changing the American mindset.

Posts: 7711Absolutely Yes but not the way you're trying to spin it.
I favor One Party Rule in the USA like the way it was when the Dems controlled the White House and the Majority in both Houses of Congress under FDR, Truman, JFK, LBJ, Carter, Clinton, Obama and Biden. And along the way we still got all of the Separation of Powers the Founders envisioned would be beneficial to a democratic republic.

That's why it is so dangerous for bothsider / neithersiders to even casually flirt with the total destruction of the USA economy and American democracy by insinuating and voting in such a way that allows so much as a single Repub to slither into a position of power on any of those fronts because just that one Repub or Repub pretending to be an "Independent" can and will infect the system with an America-hating cancer that might soon enough cause a razor-thin election outcome that once again puts a Repub in the White House and hand them the Majority in both Houses of Congress. Clearly, America can't afford to take such a foolish risk.
It is certainly too great a risk to take for patriotic Americans who want the best for America, the vast majority of the American people and to avoid the Worst at all cost.

Oh brother. Yeah, if only Trump were as perfect as you. To rewind things, Tooms was blabbing on and on about how Arab Americans cost Dems the White House, and the reason the Arab Americans did not turn out is because of Biden's policies on Gaza and Israel. Do you have one American pol who HAS been astute about how to handle Israel and the Middle East since you have the perfect solution?

It has been pretty amazing to see how many people have come to the USA with the wrong idea having believed all the negative media bullshit and seen how great our country is.
At the end of the day, you really only have two choices as a voter (sorry Tiny) and I do not regret voting Trump over Harris at all. That the dumb Dems keep calling people like me stupid versus realizing that they need to get better candidates reinforces my decision even more.

Posts: 7711Fun Facts about Biden's rank among historians as the 14th Best President in History.
As those of us who like to get the facts right have reviewed the recent 28 minute video of Joe Biden engaging, interacting and conversing with Jay Leno in one of Leno's episodic car discussion programs where it is abundantly clear that Joe Biden to this day exhibits no sign of dementia, no sign of being "brain dead", no sign of not knowing who he is, where he is, what he's doing or any of the other revisionist history horseshit Wingers have been slinging around for years, there are a couple of Fun Facts about Biden's rank as the 14th Best President in USA History that few if any media pundits will ever mention:
Watch Joe Biden behaving normally, intelligently, well-informed, cognitively capable and more fit to serve as President of the United States of America this very day than Trump or any other Repub MAGA has ever behaved in their lives:
https://youtu.be/J1d3vDNmgDg?is=dF7Kh3MknwlYCFoE
We know how voters feel about Trump and Biden. But how do the experts rank their presidencies?
https://www.latimes.com/opinion/stor...-election-2024
(See screenshots below).
The Fun Facts? There is only one Repub president who ranks marginally higher than Joe Biden as judged by those USA historians who served as president within the past 100 years. Just one. And the voters who might have voted for that Repub president of the past 100 years who ranks marginally higher than Joe Biden on those historians' considered and well-researched rankings of The Best Presidents in USA History would today be well into their 90's and up.

Posts: 269The chump glass is always half full even when it's empty
He was right about the SOH being shut down not affecting things too much despite the rants of Dems.
Clearly someone or something dialed up the level of delusion to 11 with you, Elvis. I don't even know what to say to this.
Truly ridiculous level of mental contortions in your attempts to excuse your lord and master. On one hand you concede he's a sucker to go the war, on the other you claim it's no big deal, and then you claim he's smart to have exited from it. Exiting when you have been disgraced, embarrassed, humiliated and have no other option doesn't ameliorate the stupidity of the original decision. But then there's no reasoning with blind adherents like you. After all, you spin his TACO tariffs against China of 120%+ which he chickened out off almost immediately.
No, chickening out, causing havoc on the world and then shifting positions doesn't make you smart; it's a whole level of stupidity that only a zealous cult follower can fall for. The smart guy does'nt do stupid things in the first place. Why do you think multiple US presidents, including Biden who arguably was brain dead, didn't fall for the trap that Netanyahu set? Why did he make a chump ONLY out of trump despite trying to bring America into engaging war on Iran for decades? Because only Trump was stupid enough to fall for it; and now you're trying to fish for compliments- beyond pathetic dude.
And now the fool has picked a needless fight with Italy. America is alone, disliked, embarrassed and humiliated; every time the fool opens his mouth or does something, anything, he disgraces America. Yet cultish Chumps like you will try to find positivity where there is none whatsoever with this joker. Recite your learnings from "Trump: my glass is half full even when it's empty- Art of the deal part 2" in your next Maga meetings- I think it's pathetic.

Posts: 764I'll vote for anyone that will be willing to legalize prostitution here in the dis UnitedStates! Not just some small backwater counties in Nevada, I'm talking about the whole damn country. Let's legalize it like the way they did in Germany. Look at Germany and Austria now! Ever since they legalized prostitution, there's been no crime, the standards of living are incredibly high, basically no homelessness or unemployment. The cost of living is incredibly low in Germany and Austria, and with no speed limits on the autobahn, you can drive as fast as you need to the next FKK or laufhaus. It's heaven on earth. It's no Bangkok by any means, but it's as good as Europe is ever going to get. So why can't America legalize prostitution then you ask? It's cause we're just not allowed to have nice things here. FML.

Posts: 7711The next Dem Prez will have another colossal Repub mess to clean up.
On every level; domestic and foreign policy, the economy, the DOJ, the current quagmire, counterproductive Repub War of Choice based on a Repub lie, new laws and regulations America had thought would not be needed because generally people of honor had occupied the White House and led the 2 Houses of Congress rather than America-hating criminals and hopeless pathological liars, the Titanic deficits, everything from top to bottom will have to be recovered by Dems and only Dems this time around. They'll just have to smile and nod at whatever typical lame brain numbskull input the hopefully utterly irrelevant Repub minority has to offer and then promptly ignore it and forge ahead to do the right thing instead as FDR, JFK / LBJ, Obama, Biden and, despite the deadbeat Know Nothing, Do Nothing Repub majority at the time, Bill Clinton continued to do in his 2nd term to pull us out of the horrific mess Repubs made of everyhing.

Posts: 26613But some here dare to write he is great. After spending billions to lose a new war, with US soldiers dead and still mollahs there, and now giving 300 billions to mollahs to reopen Ormuz which was fully open before Trump start this war, and what he tells about Meloni. It, You really have a deeply crazy. But for ignorants who don't know French or Italian foods and drinks, compare to how becoming obese at only 10 yo, he may be their best, but not sure for Americans majority who pay for his tax and inflation.
