Posts: 56This is a lovely, very informative comment! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, which is clearly copious. I have a few questions: A) other than CMDX + TJ, which city in MX do you think is best overall for mongering? B) other than CMDX + TJ, which city in MX do you think is best overall for mongering, also accounting for safety, food, living costs, etc. (this might be the same as in part A). TIA.

Guadalajara / Zapopan is a big city but not as chaotic as Mexico City, people are nicer and chicks are hotter. Lots ot college chicks for sugar dating. The only problem is when the Local cartel gets angry because some boss gets arrested and they block avenues and set trucks on fire. Like once a year it happens.
San miguel Allende as someone mentioned is a small town but very beautiful, lots of ofreing people live there and visit there, along with hot chicks from the upper mexican class visit there.
Mazatlan is cool, by the ocean, great food, hot chicks and tourism from mexico and a few from the US and Canada. Not expensive.
LOS cabos is expensive but a nice place to live, lots of foreign tourism. Just an occassional hurricane once a year. That guy from Van Halen sammy haggar lives there since like 30-40 years ago, has his own tequila and cabo wabo joint, throws a great party once a year (he invites other rocks stars like slash).
Merida (in yucatan) lately has been in fashion, not much crime, lots of sun and just a couple of hours drive from cancun and the whole mayan riviera.
Not sure what you're looking for, small town or big? Lots or few of mongering options? Valley, beach or mountain? Lets us know and well gladly tell you some of the best options according to us.

Posts: 5121For a first timer, living in Tijuana is a good option. You can run back to the US quickly if you have problems. Crime is an ongoing problem, though, particularly break-ins.

Posts: 897Many people do it. Mexican retirement residency is very easy to get. I know people who have lived in tourist towns of Mexico for more than twenty years and still, amazingly, don't speak any Spanish. The local joke about San Miguel de Allende is that it is the most beautiful city in the US.

Seriously considering it. Been looking at a wide range of places from Tijuana, to Mexico city, Guadalajara. Looking for a change of pace. Cost of living isn't a problem for me and isn't a motivating factor on why I want to leave the US. I can comfortably afford to live in the US, but I simply want to try something new. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have lived in Oax for the last 19 years. Stay cool for now. At this time there is no better place to be. Give it a year, and if you have a bit of $, you should be able to get a very nice place cheaply.

Does not surprise me in the least. Mexico is a corrupt, drug lord run, scamming Cun_try.

It took some account holders months and months to get their supposedly gov. Insured money back. Some still have not got it. Banks cannot be trusted, bottom line.

Posts: 3914I was just in Oaxaca last summer. I agree with the others to stay put. Oaxaca is a reasonably stable region minus the protests and there is a thriving expat community in case you need to support each other.

I can almost bet you with 99% assurance you won't be better off anyplace else right now.

Posts: 1604My two cents is simply to stay put for the next 30-60 days. I live in Puerto Vallarta and, yes, the beaches are closed and most everybody is in lockdown until the end of May.

Even though you screwed the pooch as far as timing goes, just relax and chill until things get back to more normal.
However, it is my personal opinion that things will not "get back to the old normal" until AFTER there's a vaccine.

Posts: 189I strongly suggest staying put until things start opening up. Many people have gotten stuck or stranding doing this.
