Can't help with Nosy Be but I have stayed at Hotel Imperial in Diego several times. Standard Mada accommodation, not bad and not great. They run around 100 K per night, friendly enough reception staff and room cleaners. Location is hard to beat, only large supermarket in town right across the street. Walking distance to many bars and restaurants and Taxi Be down the main drag.

It is not the best freelancer town in the country but I still like the place. Good luck and write a report on how it goes.

We (wife and I (we play as a team) are going to Antananarivo in April for 2 weeks.

We have read at least 30 pages of this thread, but it seems as though there is an abundance of debate. About everything.

Can anyone suggest 2 or 3 hotels that are GF on the nicer side?

And perhaps 2 or 3 bars that have quality assets?

Lastly, the recent reports with respect to Nosy Be are discouraging; is there any recommendation on another city in Mada with either quantity or quality that we should visit?

Any thoughts are much appreciated!

Wow, you "play as a team", now that sounds fun. I know some Malagasy girls that would love that, others might not (maybe most? Sounds like you already have good advice for Tana from another, and there is also the Sakamanga, a really nice hotel in the middle of the action and I have had girls there multiple times. I have not been a Tana regular for a while, but there are plenty of bars and discotheques. And great restaurants, etc. It is a big city, a lot to do, etc, but not the tropical paradise experience at all.

I would not be scared off of Nosy Be by others' opinions. It is a remarkably beautiful place, and you can get great accommodations on the beach. This is the tropical paradise, if that is what you are looking for. And there are plenty of girls from sweet unassuming amateurs to hot pros. Easy access from Tana by Madagascar Airlines that has become more reliable lately, RT about 300 euro. And if you are not worried about cost, stay at Sable Blanc in Madirokely, a safe 15 min beach walk from the major action Ambatoloaka, as well as THE party spot on Sunday nights (Tatie Chris) - you can get a beach access large room at Sable for 100 euro a night. Or a regular room off the road for 45 euro.

If you have 2 weeks, and the cost is not a big issue, I would do a week in each. And the flight is pretty simple. You could have a girl in Tana overnight, say goodbye in the morning, afternoon flight, and pick up another girl that night in Nosy Be. No need to take a break, ha.

Blue Velvet and Etoile Blanche both are located on the beach, walking distance from the action and midrange budget wise. Blue Velvet is the better overall option while Etoile Blanch has the better beach accommodations, views and access to the beach.

I think if you are discreet you can bring a girl into most of these hotels. I used to stay at Beluga a lot pre-2019, great for the beach entrance and no one watching, but with change in management a couple years ago, I don't go there any more. Don't like the management, but they are GF. Senga's previous owner was probably very anti-girl and strict, but the new owner (Eric as has been mentioned) is probably much more easy going and if you don't cause a scene I don't think there would be a problem. You see plenty of men with girls at the Senga restaurant, some are friends of Eric. Next down the road is Sable Blanc, great place, I have stayed there often, GF but pretty strict about leaving ID at the front office (after hours at least, you can "sneek" a girl up during the day when no one is looking). Then there is Aviavy, but I have never stayed there so not familiar with the policy. With all of these, at night there is a different staff, a male guardian usually, that will check a girl's ID and might keep it overnight (Sable Blanc does that for sure) - they tend to be much more easy going than the daytime staff. And the price for all of these range from 40-50 e, more if you want a bigger room.

There are other more expensive places further down the beach, ending in the exquisite Heur Bleu, but much more expensive and I suspect have stricter policies.

I am not familiar with Blue Velvet or Etoile Blanch. Dark Knight, can you give more details on location, price and GF policy?

It is pretty easy to get girls daytime. You know all the ones that you find at night? Ask one of them for a number and a nooner the next day. Plenty will be happy to oblige. I actually prefer this than trying to bang girls after one too many beers in the evening.

When I'm on a mongering trip, I like to bang 2-3 per day. At my age, that means spreading them out through the day and night. In Nosy Be, I never had a problem finding a girl for nighttime fun. But most of my attempts to pull girls in the day via tinder and Facebook turned out to be flakes. I didn't see that many attractive 18-24 year olds wandering the beach waiting to be approached. So, what's my best bet to fill my dance card for the daytime? Ask one of the beach tour promoter dudes if he has some cousins who like to meet foreigners? Ask hotel staff? What?

Can't speak to nicer hotels, although that is very much in the eye of the customer. I have stayed at Sole hotel several times. Relatively cheap and does the job. As for GF, almost every hotel in the country is. You needn't worry about that in Tana or elsewhere except a couple of places in NB.

If all you have is 2 weeks it may be advisable to just stay in Tana. It is a big country that is not known for ease of travel. You may end up spending half of your 2 weeks traveling. For other cities only one probably meets your wish for quality (not great) and quantity (plenty) and that is Tamatave. Maybe do a week in each. Personally I would not consider any more moving around.

Their answer is they not allow sex tourism on the hotel at this point (from the new owner Eric).

Moreover Beluga which is next says the same.

Any option on the same style in front of the beach?

Well, if you asked that so explicitely: "Are you allowing sex tourism or hookers in your hotel? I guess you'll never get any positive answer.

Cmon guys. Hotel owners there also enjoy the good life, including sea, sex and sun. But of course don't bring back a half naked prosti, completely drunk and yelling at 2 am.

They say no, because they don't know you, and want for sure to avoid such situations, because many families and tourists groups spend few days at Nosy Be, and they want to keep their good reputation.

Use common sense, and stay smart with smart people.

Actually I do plan on going next fall if there are no more "misadventures" by government or protesters. What I do not plan on doing is going to Nosy Be. In fact one could hope that the attention stays squarely on NB and they leave the rest of the country alone. Win win.

I think Amadeuss sums up the situation nicely. Too much attention influencing decisions on the ground. Happened in Cambodia 20 years ago in a big way. And we have seen what became of it. I am there now and it's fucked. And unfortunately it looks like the Pattaya. Ization is well under way. What a pity. Doesn't matter much to me. I've never liked it and no need for me to visit again.

On another note "The discussion goes that the problem starts from local boys, fucking the girls in very young age (14.15. 16), getting them pregnant and then run away. " This could have been written about the PI and it would be spot on. Still going on. And another place that's fucked. Sigh.

The shitstorm at the moment on Facebook Malgache groups to get rid of all the vahaza around NosyBe -- pedophile. It just uncontrollable. Fortunately the Mada authorities have at the moment different problems.

Few years ago only one hotel on NosyBe was famous for not letting girls join you: F&F at Ambatoloaka. Lately you find a lot of discussions on social media about prostitution on NosyBe. Most of them in Malgache but also in expat groups.

Too many girls coming from all parts of Mada to NB to search for old vahaza and have sex for money. (. as if it is new.) The discussion goes that the problem starts from local boys, fucking the girls in very young age (14.15. 16), getting them pregnant and then run away. The replies are that it's the fault of the government not to offer them education options to find a job. The discussions are sometimes quite heated with the result to make more people observant: single white men = sex tourist with sexual diseases. Don't get in touch with those bad creatures.

No wonder that hotels, which cater for "good travellers", want to avoid any comments in their history that their place is used for prostitution. Until now, NosyBe was known as a place with good beach and nice diving sports for the general tourist. But the red light district is getting bigger and louder and cannot be overseen any more.

NosyBe will have the same reputation as Pattaya.

Probably most people plan their trips in advance, especially for December, but I'm considering a last minute getaway to nosy be

-I am looking up hotels but those on the guest friendly list seem to be booked. Any suggestions? (guest friendly).

-Also, I am curious what people do for money (payment method) there, are you fine just taking a credit card and withdrawing money? Or do most people take euros along?

If its too late, that's fine, but would be curious what you would do.
