Salvador Dec. 2004 Report
I purchased my airline tickets online with Gol. The price was almost R$600. Reservations were made at the Barra Turismo Hotel for a 10 day stay @ R$60 per day.
Quite impressed upon arrival at Salvador. The airport was modern and well organized. When you exit into the lobby, there is a tourist information office where accomodations can be made. Also, there are many fine ladies working in the other lojas/stores.
Stepping out to the pick up area, you will see several car lanes. Very first lane is for radio taxis (all white cars). The next is for regular metered taxis. and the final lane, are for city buses. To Barra area, Radio taxis charge about R$50, regular taxis around R$35, and the city bus can be caught for around R$5.
Rented a taxi. Took approx. 30 minutes to get to the hotel. The accomodations were definately a two-star, very simple, however, would suffice. I almost want to give it an extra 1/2 star for having a new mattress. BTW, the building is situated in front of a popular beach. My room had an ocean view.
Cutting to the chase, Salvador was a disappointment for me. Like a smacked ass, I was all over the place, visiting those places recommended by fellow brother mongers. I left after 4 days. I tried to leave on my 3rd day, however, there were no flights available. Yes, I paid the extra tarifa to change my flight.
Casquini di Siri was a PITA as it was far out, and a taxi was a must. The talent were in the 5 and 6 range. Taxi costs from Barra are about R$30 each way.
Centro Historico aka Pelourinho was interesting. Most were street walkers around the center. Again, I did not see anything of interest. Just be aware of the ladrones/robbers in the side streets of the square. Don't go beyond the Policia Militar gates that are two to three blocks deep from the town center. These are the limits of PM protection for tourists. PM in Salvador wear brown uniforms BTW.
Free Night had a nice 18y/o for me. She was a 7 at most. Paid R$100. Went to a motel down the road via taxi. The motel was R$43 for 4 hours. After finishing up, I noticed some lipstick on my brand new white shirt I had bought from C&A. She offered to wash it for me, and she did. Quite impressed with her domestic skills. BTW, when you enter FN, all of the chicks rush to you. My advice is walk to the bar, make your selection as soon as possible, and leave. Entry is $R30, and exit is same. Price for the girl is between you and her.
Aeroclube is about as far out as Casquina. The club is popular with locals. If you go there too late, you will not get in. Did see some very nice regular ladies. There is program action around Bob's and Subway sandwiches. Most were between 5 and 6 at most.
Beaches a plenty. Many nice beaches for surfing near the Othon Hotel. Barra Praia has some program action. Like Copa, the seat/umbrella vendors try to hook you up. Avg. 5/6 on the beaches I visited.
Salvador's culture, history, and foods were interesting. Personally, I would not go back there again. After living in Rio for over a year, my tastes have changed. In addition, I am more selective when it comes to women. However, Salvador could be for you. The only way to find out is to visit.
Anyone else in town for Carnaval?
Team,
I'm in tranist to Salvador as I write this--going to be in town for Carnaval! Anyone else going to be out here (I'm in town until the 12th)? I have a camarote rented with some friends on Saturday and Sunday and participating in blocos the remaining days. I'm up for some drinks and mongering anytime. Feel free to drop me a PM if you would like to get together. I'm in my late 20's from the States (Northeast).
Cheers

Regarding Carnaval (tips for 2006 from my 2005 experiences)
Plan early, and book in advance! Budget between 400-1000R for your admission into the various events. There is basically one main site to get things done online, but it is in Portuguese: Central Do Carnaval (http://www.centraldocarnaval.com.br/).
Bahia Online (http://www.bahia-online.net/) is an excellent resource regarding the basics about Carnaval and about Bahia/Salvador in general. I participated in the blocos as well as the camarotes. Between the two, I had the most fun partying in the blocos (the cordorned off area around the truck where the band performs). The most popular blocos are Chiclete com Banana, Timbalada, Ivette, and Araketu. Me Ama had the best looking girls--not sure if this holds true every year. Both the blocos and camarotes are fairly pricey, but the camarotes I feel draw upon the more well-to-do crowd that doesn't wish to mix with all the local ruffians, even more so than the blocos. The camarote I was a part of was Axe Mix--this was held at the Casa D'Italia, on the Circuito Avenida (Centro). That means that it went up Av. Sete de Setembro and came down on Rua Carlos Gomes. You are basically partying above the crowd below with a nice view of all the blocos. This camarotes also had a pool, medical staff, three bars, food, etc. In my opinion, no matter where you party, you will have a good time--it's hard not to when the ratio almost always is 2-3:1 (girls/guys).
I personally was not robbed, but I was careful about my person and surroundings. I kept my digicam with me throughout the four days--my buddy, a local actually had his ID stolen by a pickpocket.
All in all, between the four days I must have made-out with 20+ girls without even trying very hard. The only problem was converting these mini make-out sessions into some actual bed action. The key here would be to make sure you keep a pen/paper handy and get every girls number that you can and try to set up some daytime action the following day (take them to the movies, the mall, lunch, etc.). Same night action, although possible, was tough for me because there were so many lovelies that I just wanted to butterfly around. Not to mention that my Portuguese is pretty weak.
Surgical strike on Salvador
I´m here long enough for the ladies to be rested after carnival.
I was in Sao Paulo for a week and had the time of my life. Every time got better and better. Made some good friends etc. I felt on a roll, so I decided to take a 3 day detour through Salvador to Rio. Be with my "people" a bit.
I gathered, "THE" place is Caskhina. Semi-outdoor...sorta like stadium design, but just 2 levels. The music is "ao vivo". The groups sucked in my opinion. An almost top 20-type music. Nothing with a beat or groove that got me "bumpin". I got there at 10 (a 15min. 30R ride from the Blue Tree Hotel).
Over the next 3 hours I saw nothing that made me want to take the Levitra I had with me. I came here because I wanted to see more of the beautiful darker girls I see in Sao Paulo and Rio. There was a range of color and sizes. Perhaps 300 people in the place.
The inner tables are generally for non-mongers and their famlies. Yes, I saw what I thought looked like family get togethers. Lots of couples and groups of tourists.
The outer tables are for the mongers. The girls enter down the ramp to the left. They do the "runway walk" around the mid-perimiter towards the bathrooms. One thing I noticed is a lot of young affected attitude, if you know what I mean. Again, I saw nothing above a 6. I´m pretty sure, because a 7 will usually give me the feeling like I would like to see what´s underneath the clothes. A six, for me, is a sort of "I can do that". I was so disappointed that I had no interest in the one 6 that wasn't taken.
There were a few 7's and 8's, but in the non-mongering areas. Not tourists, but GDP's ( Garotas de Programma) with the guys that found them.
I did have fun chatting with this cutie with a fat ass and saggy tits (for her age). Spoke lot's of portugese and learned a few things. I don't think there is a work-out culture here. Perhaps it's the relative poverty.
At 1, I took a cab to Tche. Sort of a strip joint (see Bonhead's very accurate discription below)...told Wilson the cabbie to wait outside for a while. Nothing but "chum" dentro do club . Bad attitude all around except for a couple friendly gals I chatted with a while.
I got back to the Blue Tree feeling totally defeated, tired and a bit drunk. Out on my balcony I could see and hear quite a 'barulho'. At the base of the hill the hotel sits on, is a large parking lot at the water's edge. Rows of plastic tables, 10 deep and perhaps 50 yards long. Food and drinks are sold from a row of tents.
Maybe 300, mostly younger, folks. I don't think this place is for the GDP's. I also only saw 3 or 4 7's. And I'm being generous. But the food looked so good, I'm eating there in an hour.
There are lot's of tourists here with famlies. It reminds me of the carribean.
I just over heard two older Brit's. ( please don't ask me what I mean by "older". Perhaps 20 yrs. older than me. I'm 44). They have spent lot's of time here and were talking about how Natal is so nice. Where lot's of brazilians retire. "Fortaleza isn't so nice because the prostitution is getting out of hand"...SWEET!!!
Well, I called the airlines and my hotel in Rio. I should be at Monte Carlo by 8.
There is a club called "Fashion Club" between the Blue Tree and Caskinhas. I'm told lot's of university students are there. And that fri. and sat. nights are hot. Sorry, but I've done my "research".
Tudo de bom pra voces!
If you don´t believe in Karma...
Well, there was no drumming last night until 4. This dude set up his car with a ten trillion watt system in the trunk. I could hear the misic like it was on "8" in my room. I sorta liked it until I tried to sleep.
Non-stop until 7:30 am. I called the desk at 6. They did the deer in the headlights thing.
So, I´m just typing to stay awake until I hop into the cab. Not taking any chances with this flight.
Oh, and I did run into the hottie from the elevator. Having breakfast with her groom.
I think this hotel is a big honeymoon destination. Snuggling new couples everywhere.
Well, I´m off to do some "snuggling" of my own...
