I was In Bq ,last jan,and i took a cab to Ca, Paid Col$130.000, one way, you can get one to take you there, show you around and bring you back for about Col$200.000 , with the ex rate of US$1-Col $2500 that is about US$80, if you need help in BQ, email me. Mister Solo.
We paid less than 150000 P from Santa Marta to CTG recently. 130000 P sounds expensive from Barranquilla. If your chica is with you, I am sure she can negotiate a favorable fare if your Spanish skills are not fluent.

I am trying to decide between BAQ and Cartagena for about a 12 day trip. Dont want to do both as funds are somewhat limited.
My priorities are meeting regular girls, mongering, and just having a good time in general in a nice city. I have met girls online from both places so it doesnt matter to me which one I go to, whatever the consensus says is the best.
I did find a place called the Hotel Royal in BAQ that offered me US$25 per night with big pool and it looks pretty nice, 4 stars. Anyone know it?
Any opinions on which place is better? Better chicas? Anything of help will be appreciated.

Do both. CTG has more to do than BAQ. BAQ is much more of a normal town, while CTG is a tourist town.
In BAQ, you need to speak basic-decent Spanish. In CTG, you can get by without much Spanish.
CTG has a better, more-accessible P4P scene, as well as a beach option. La Dolce Vita is completely unmatched in BAQ. But BAQ does have some local spots that I have gone to, but would not advise you to.
BAQ has beaches 20+ mins away, which come in handy, because the heat in the city during the day is brutal. Puerto Colombo is supposedly the best of the beaches there. CTG has several beach options, and much closer.
BAQ has many chicas there, probably more educated with legitimate jobs/professions than CTG. Buena Vista Mall, Exito, Centro Commercial, even SAO Olympia will be loaded with normal chicas going about their business. And they'll notice you as being different. It's up to you as to what you do with the attention you'll get. CTG has chicas in abundance as well, and probably much-more readily-available for you than BAQ.
BAQ is probably cheaper than CTG, as CTG is a tourist town. I've also found people to be a bit more honest, taxis/drinks-wise. In BAQ, there are much fewer touts to bug you.
Are you sure you got a $25/nite quote at Hotel Royal? I've not heard of it ever going that low before. $35-$55 is the normal range. Not much of a difference, but you said you're on a budget. You might want to confirm that quote. I've been there and it's a pretty decent hotel. Has it's own bar/disco and restaurant. Breakfast is included in the cost. I'll be staying there again in 2 weeks.
Nightscene: BAQ has Frogg Leggs, La Quinta, Juanitos, and Kilimanjaros (if you have a date to impress). CTG has Tu Candelas, La Quinta, Mister Babillas, etc, and then......La Dolce Vita.
Last note: stay away from Centro and below in BAQ after dark. Things get dicey. I'm sure you don't need that on your vacation.

I'm not sure of the puterias in BAQ, but they are there. Just ask a taxi driver in front of your hotel. Or check back a few pages, I believe someone found some casas. It's really not needed, unless you are that desparate. Just go to a mall, stroll through El Prado, Carrera 54 & Calle 72 area is always lively with regular chicas. Be friendly, and use your Spanish, even if it's poor. Watch how helpful these ladies can become.
Take a chiva (party bus), costs like $10.000-20.000COP per person. That pays for admission to 3-4 clubs/bars, a bottle of aguardiente, and your transport to the clubs/bars. You can leave whenever you're ready to. There will be other chicas on these chivas. Talk with your hotel reception for logistics on where to catch one.
Frogg Leggs, La Quinta, Juanitos, are the main discos in town. There are others, but these will have the most chicas there, many in groups alone. Kilimanjaros is located about 20 mins outside of town, on the beach. It's hit or miss with chicks there. Marriage agencies and chivas bring people there. Other than that, there are a few stragglers and mostly couples.
Alternative to spending $150.000COP ($60 USD) on taxi to CTG, and just as safe as a taxi. Use an auto rentado for $25.000COP each way. It's basically an official late model minivan service. Usually takes 6 people. You can reserve/plan you trip ahead. They will take you directly to your CTG destination from BAQ. You officially sign up and the driver takes care of everything during the roadstops. He also radios in his location every 5 kms or so during the ride, even though the road is secure. I'm taking it again in two weeks.
Invertours - 01157-5-368-2990 - offices located in El Prado or El Norte of BAQ. If your hotel is located in the area, they will come and get you. From the airport, it is recommended that you take a taxi to their office, unless you're travelling in a group and/or willing to spend $150.000COP for the entire minivan.
Note: not recommended to travel between cities at night. Just a precaution.
IMHO you are getting ripped if you pay 150K (gringo price indeed!). 100K is the rate if you bargain, at most 120K (if you go late at night as I did a couple times). Driver seemed unconcerned even when we had a flat tire out in the middle of nowhere. Several checkpoints on highway. But unless you have to go at night, going during the day makes sense (BUT CHECK A/C!).
But 25K in a van is a great idea, plus you might well meet some chicas in the van!
The most famous casa is Lucitania; there is a place called Zona Rosa a block away, but quality was HORRIBLE! Lucitania has some lookers but high price, ST oriented. Drinks are pricey too. Nice facility. Both are very near the stadium on Cra 74 I think. Taxistas will know how to get there. Less than 10 minutres from El Prado (where gringos should stay).

In response to $350 for English lessons, that is a huge rip-off. I was going to send a girl to a expensive private untversity in Medellin for English classes for under $75 USD per month.

i went to baq carnival wkd and refused to over pay for pus so a taxi took me to a dive called freddys it left a impression on me and it was cheap and the girls were cute bouncers spoke english.

I had this guy in Cali, Coolmbia find me a place for 2 weeks. Heres my budget for confortable 1 bedroom .kitchen not inportant just refrig for beers: 300 USD. Is that relistic in Barranquilla?
