Another 3 Months in Asunción
Sorry this post is a little late. I just spent another 3 months in Paraguay, and left mid January.
Right now, I have no plans to return to Paraguay. I like Asunción, because I can live comfortably and cheaply as well. But I have become very frustrated by the difficulty of finding women. I know that there are literally thousands of desperate young women, but it is practically impossible to meet them. I also lost 3 of the friends that I did meet during the last year, for various reasons.
This trip, I spent a lot of time feeling bad with intestinal problems, and I am sure that didn't help.
This trip, I did not live in El Centro. I lived in the suburbs, in Villa Mora. I did this because it is an easier location for women to come to from the far suburbs, where most of the poorer people live(and most of the working women). It turned out to be a very convenient location. It seems that the El Centro area is declining rapidly now, with more and more stores and things closed permanently, with empty storefronts. There has been a very noticable decline during the 1.5 years I have been going to Paraguay.
The street scene in El Centro on Estrella and Palma still exists as described. The week before Christmas, there were some reasonably attractive newcomers. Price is still generally G50k + hotel G15K. The other times it was the more normal 4-6 lookers range. Some clubs on Colon still exist, notably Cafecito´s Pub and the Blue Note. Juanes has closed permanently. The discos on Palma near Colon are still there, and lively Fri-Sat.
The street scene in Ave Fernando de la Mora and in Ave Mariscal Lopez still exists as described, although the quantity and quality is very spotty. I did meet one very attractive young morena in Mariscal Lopez.
I like only small slim women, in the 90-100lb and 5´ tall range. This makes it much harder to find interesting women. This time I returned to Asunción with the idea of placing a newspaper ad, which I did. I needed the help of a Paraguayan woman friend to act as my agent, since a foreigner cannot place an ad. I ran an ad for 4 weeks in Diario Popular, and got very few responses. There are now about 13 ads every day from the same Asunción apartments trying to hire women, and it is obvious that there is burnout and nobody reads the section anymore. I ran an ad 2 weeks in ABC Color, and got about 50 responses. The only really good response I got was one 20YO woman from Pedro Juan Caballero visiting a cousin in Asunción. She was lovely and pretty much an amateur. But I only saw her twice because she returned to Pedro Juan. Most of the responses were from women too big. I don´t have any problem at all meeting women too big. I stopped the Ads because it was getting too close to the end of my visa to be useful, and I wasn´t feeling all that well anyway.
The problem here is what I pretty much already suspected. The women I most want to meet generally don´t read newspapers, for various reasons. The only way they will find out about an ad is by word of mouth, if an ad appears for a very long time(months). During the school season, it is possible that I might have gotten responses from college women, which would be perfect. But unfortunately this was during summer recess. Poor planning on my part. But even the college women will not read the paper every day. They may read one they find, or buy one once in a while. So it will be a slow process.
One problem with meeting new women is that there are few bars anymore. Puerto Madero was great, because it was a hang out. I cannot find anything that replaced it. There are discos only on Fri-Sat nights, very crowded with young people. I am not likely to meet a young woman in a disco on Sat night. Very poor women cannot go to these discos anyway. There are no places like Excedra, Newport, and Cafe Orleans in Buenos Aires where a woman can go and work on any given night she needs money. There are possibly neighborhood places, but it is too dangerous for a foreigner to enter a poorer residential area, especially after dark. Women can work the street, but small women rarely work the street, for security reasons. Also, there are few clients in the streets, possibly because of a bad economy. So there is little incentive to risk working all night for nothing. It also seems to be true that all the women who were able left for other countries. I know of 3-4 women personally who left Paraguay. All this would also be reflected in the difficulty that the apartments seem to have recuiting women. They run their hiring ads constantly, so you know they aren´t having success in finding and retaining women. My guess would be that the women aren´t making money in the apartments for lack of clients.
My Christmas and New Years were saved by my long time amigas, two young sisters, 20 and 22YO. They spent the actual holidays with family, but I slept between them after partying on the Fridays before Christmas and New Years. I give them G150k each for TLN together, G200k for TLN solo. So Paraguay can be good. But the older of them has been gaining weight, and is now marginal, so they alone aren´t enough to bring me back.
To sum up, right now I have very little reason to return anytime soon. I will be watching for some indication that things are looking up. For visiting mongers, this should put you in an excellent negotiating position if you must come here. Don´t put up with tourist exploitation. Read the history here and have more fun as an informed tourist.
The Local Scene, i.e. no extranjeros
Hola gents,
I´ve been in Asuncion, actually a suburb called Capiata, visiting a novia for a couple of weeks. My novia is kind of hip to the scene in the suburbs outside of the central area of Asuncion and took me to the "hot" areas for a little tour. Next to the National University in San Lorenzo on Mariscal Lopez there are 4 or 5 blocks of ladies in waiting between Victor Cáceres and Ingavi. There is a big Toyota dealership on the corner of Victor Càceres and Mariscal Lopez, and an ESSO gas station of the corner of Ingavi and Mariscal Lopez. Driving from Asuncion on Mariscal Lopez you will cross Ingavi first and then 4 blocks later Victor Cáceres. There are lots of girls walking on the sidewalk on these four blocks between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m., particularly near the corner of an unmarked sidestreet one block before Ingavi; the sidestreet leads directly to the higher end love motels about 1 block off of Mariscal Lopez. Alternatively, a couple blocks off of Mariscal Lopez on Ingavi are the other side of the same high end love motels, e.g. Millenium, Playhouse, and Studio A. The current room rates range from $35,000 guarani to $65,000 guarani for up to 3 hours, i.e. about U$S 5.00 to U$S 10.00. Some of the girls in this area are quite pretty and do not want to work in the apartments because they don´t want to see 8 to 16 guys a day and because the apartments take a 60% cut. In addition, a couple blocks off of Mariscal Lopez on Victor Cáceres are some other high end love motels called El Sultan and the Del Rey.
I haven´t yet had the opportunity to walk the 4 blocks and chat with the available talent, but intend to do so in the near future with the brother of my novia, who I´m told is quite the negotiator. In addition, there are some other clubs further out in Capìata on Ruta 2 which feature new young ladies fresh from the interior of Paraguay. I´m told they can be quite stunning, and $15,000 guarani the half hour, i.e. approx. U$S 2.00. I also intend to venture into one such club in Capiata where there can be as many as 20 ladies.
I´ll report more later as things unfold, as I am here for 4 more weeks and keep pretty busy during the days.
Peace out,
HGL
Dogus, do you know how much $ ?
What you know more or less what the asking price is for the girls on the fuego website? Does anyone out there know? If so, is it the going rate? I am curious, I was actually thinking about making a stop in Paraguay while visiting Brazil in June.
