MUST READ: Hotel room safes and motor bikes
One more point of fact about the Hotels to remember to all newbies in Thailand. This concerns the Hotel room safes and rented motor bikes. Both learned the hard way. The newest scam is stealing your motor bike or setting you up to still the motor bike. It will cost you a minimum of 40,000 baht to the rental place to replace the MB. DO NOT leave your key lying around or let your girl go anywhere alone on your rented MB.
Also alot of regulars don't even know that there are only a very few keys to all the inroom safes in Thailand. My old trick when traveling was to hide my safe key outside my room in the hallway or something OR since I travel usually with friends to trade keys with your traveling partner before bedtime. BUT come to find out my friends key worked just fine in my safe as well!! and just for curiousity sake so did my padlock key with alittle jiggling!! I now only take a room with the type of safes that use the round circle type keys and not the flat normal keys. And also the newer guys need to know that if you get a safe with an electronic combination latch: right next to the keypad is usually a plastic name logo that hides the emergency key hole and all the girls know this. It snaps on and off extremely easy. of course there is always the option to take only short time girls but you still need to watch them like a bad step child.
