Downtown, known as Centro is very active during weekday working hours but little goes on during the weekend. This is because the focus of ALL businesses in Centro is on Brazilians, regardless of what self-important gringos would have you believe. Gringos come and go, Brazilians, especially politicians and police are there to stay. Another benefit of speaking Portuguese and not being a jerk is who you get introduced to in the termas. At any one time in 4 x 4 there are probably 5-10 cops, especially on Thursday and Friday nights.

2) Mabs and all surrounding areas are stuffed with scary looking females at night. My past trips I used to have one encounter during the day and then save up my energy for night time. Now its completely different. I am in bed by 11PM-12AM and try to hit 2-3 prives during the day time.
3) Girls are expecting more of BFE experience now. In the past when the girls lived in Copa, I could call them over and 5 minutes after they walked in the door, we would be fucking. Now since girls have to travel for 2+ hours by bus, they want to be taken out to eat and and bought drinks before they come up to the room. This has happened on 3 separate occasions. When they go to copa they would call me and tell me to come downstairs. I would ask for what. And their responses would be lets go have some drinks somewhere. When I told them that I had alcohol in my apartment the response was "Yeah, but lets people watch, lets sit at a bar on the beach then we can go to your place later!" (this can add 2-300 R to the bottom line).
4) Taxis are shockingly expensive at night. WTF? I was never that much of a fan of buses and vans, but the cabs cost a fortune to take at night. 40 R to go from Copa to Lapa!! That used to be a 15 R ride the last time I was in Brazil!
On a positive note, Coconuts are only 6 R, still expensive but not too bad for us gringos at this current exchange rate!!

Regarding the girls expecting BFE treatment, its up to you what you tell them upfront that there won't be wining and dining allthough you might bring sth back to the crib....i mean it works both ways.Grabbing a drink could warm her up first and wouldn't kill the pockets but it's a BUYERS MARKET!. However, agencies like Karla Models had excellent rates considering it was for 2 HR period. It was practical going to Hotel Serrano and calling them, 15 minutes later. They were there at your door. Those were the days BTW, the majority of the ladies provided excellent service.
I bike a lot when I'm in Rio. I was looking forward to use the new Ciclovia Tim Maia, na avenida Niemeyer. A construction that cost R$45. The bike lane has great scenery and some parts of the bike lane is constructed just hanging over the cliffs. Yesterday 50 m of the bike lane collapsed down to the cliffs and into the ocean. Two people died. I can't say that I'm surprised. Hopefully the heads of some engineers will roll.
